Christmas Fun

We had great fun today in Primary 1. In the morning we made placemats for our movie afternoon snacks, we also made a special Santa star to take home. In the afternoon we watched Father Christmas and our class favourite The Gruffalo, as well as enjoying  tasty snacks and some outside play.

Exploring our Numberline

In primary 1 we are continuing to use our numbercards to build  numberlines. We have begun to think about what the numbers between 10 and 20 look like and where these numbers sit on the numberline. We use our finger to count up and down the numberline and find numbers before, after and in between. Today we used the numberline to help us add numbers.

Reading in P1

Primary 1  have been working hard on learning to read. We have been continuing to practise using our sounds to read and write small words. We have also been learning to read tricky words that you cannot sound out. In our reading groups we have been taking turns to read aloud, we have to listen carefully and follow as others read. We also complete work in a workbook  about the different characters in our reading books and make up our own sentences using word cards. We also enjoy spending time  looking at and reading  books from our class library.

We have also been enjoying the Christmas story and sharing different Christmas books together.

My First Book Of Birds

The last book in the P1 Book Bug bag is a fact book all about birds.

Each double page has a beautiful picture of a bird we might find in our local area and gives information about the birds appearance, diet and habitat. P1 are very excited to do some bird watching.

We loved the pictures in the book and decided to draw our own colourful birds using chalk and oil pastels.

This is a Dog!

The second book in the P1 book bag is My First Animal Book …..This is a Dog by Ross Collins.

The dog decides he would like the book to only be about him which does not please the other animals! The  dog manages to get onto every page and then tricks the rest of the animals to leave the book!

We thought the dog was very cheeky and found it very funny when he tricked the other animals.

We drew some new pages that could be added to the book.

Book Bug Bags

This week Primary 1 will bring  home their Book Bug Bags that are given to them by the Scottish Book Trust. In each bag there are three super books to read and enjoy together. There is also a mini whiteboard to practise letters and numbers on.

Today we read one of the books called Brenda is a Sheep by Morag Hood.

This is the story of how a wolf plans to eat a flock of sheep but ends up deciding that it would be nicer to be their friend.

We talked about what we enjoyed about the book and designed our own woolly jumpers for Brenda to wear.
