Primary 1 spent some time weeding in the garden this afternoon, getting it ready for planting.

Primary 1 and P2/1 have been putting their banana skins and apple cores into the compost bin. The dinner ladies have been giving us their fruit and veg peelings to put in our bin.

The compost bin is filling up!

This week primary 1 have been building words with en in them, we came up with lots of words like hen, pen, men, then, when, end, send and friend.

Primary 1 and P2/1 continued with their RSPB wild challenge today by setting up their compost bin. We hope to make rich compost to put on the plants we are going to grow  in the school garden. We added some soil, worms, apples cores and  some veggie peelings into the compost bin to get us started. We spoke to the dinner ladies who are going to give us vegetable peelings from the school lunches to add to the bin.

Today we went to check on the worms 🪱 in the wormery, we fed them some banana skins and used teabags! The worms were very lively, we were careful not to keep the lid off for too long as we didn’t want the worms to get to warm in the bright sunlight.

This week our new double sound is oa. We thought of lots of words with the oa sound and shared the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We made our stick puppets to help us retell the story and built bridges out of Lego for the goats to cross.

Primary 1 have been talking about how each of us are special, we all have special qualities that make us unique.

We shared the story of Elmer, he has a bright patchwork coat but he is special to his friends because he is kind, thoughtful, helpful and funny.

We are all special!

At the end of last term Primary 1 were very sad to say goodbye to Mrs Wilson. We worked together to make pages for her special Farewell From Kingsland Books, our pages were thanking Mrs Wilson for helping us in the dinner hall.
On the last day of term we enjoyed watching Mrs Wilson’s special goodbye assembly. We had great fun having a special scavenger hunt in the playground, we hunted for eggs with pictures on them. The letters at the start of each picture made a word “Kingsland”. We also made lovely Easter cards and enjoyed a delicious ice-cream cone.

Last term primary 1 used number rods to help them build their addition facts.

Primary 1 have been continuing to work on learning their double sounds….
