In numeracy we played a Gruffalo dice game. Each number on the dice matched a part of the Gruffalo’s body. If you threw a 6 you drew a body, if you threw a 5 you drew his head, a 4 was his legs ……. it was great fun!

We having been thinking about words  with the “t” sound. Mrs Collins told us a funny story about a tennis match. We then made  our own Mr Tall to take home , drew tigers and practised writing the letter “t”.

Our new sound today in Primary 1 was “a”.  Mrs Collins told us a story about a picnic where the sandwiches ended up full of ants! To help us remember the a sound we made our own ant door hangers.

We had to have a steady hand when moving the pasta with the tweezers.

Today we went out to build log pile homes for our little snakes. We used leaves, sticks, bark, stones and moss. We had to make sure that our homes were dry and safe and that there was a way in and out.

We used different materials to camouflage our homes.

In primary 1 we have started learning our sounds. We talk about the sound  each letter makes and think about words that have that sound in them.

Today we were learning the s sound. Mrs Collins told us a story about a slithering snake. To help us remember the sound we made our own slithering snakes.  🐍

In Primary 1 we are learning how to form our numbers correctly. We were writing number 2 on our white boards. We thought that number 2 looked like a swan on a lake!

We went out into the playground and used natural materials to make the face of the Gruffalo. We worked together to share our ideas about what we could use.

In class last week we talked about what the Gruffalo looked like. We then painted the Gruffalo checking that we had included his orange eyes, the purple prickles on his back and the poisonous wart on his nose!

We had great fun in primary 1 making plasticine Gruffalos. We then created a home for our Gruffalos using sticks, leaves, moss and stones.
