Langloan Primary School

Primary 1

At Langloan Primary each class follows the Golden Rules. We have been learning all about these rules and are doing a great job of following them. Like other classes throughout the school we have Golden Time on a Friday afternoon.

Literacy Update – Over the last few weeks we have been revising phase 1 phonics. This includes

  • Environmental sounds.
  • Instrumental sounds.
  • Body percussion (e.g. clapping and stamping)
  • Rhythm and rhyme.
  • Alliteration.
  • Voice sounds.

We have used lots of visuals to improve our listening skills and take time to focus before each new lesson using a mixture of brain breaks, clapping and finger rhymes and also yoga.

How can you help at home?

Rhyme seems to be the area we need most help. Finding words that sound the same proved a challenge for most of the class. Saying nursery rhymes together will help, stopping to point out the words that sound the same. There are  some great authors who use rhymes. We enjoy Julia Donaldson and Lynley Dodd books in class. There are also some fun online games you can play together.

Homework – Homework for Room 1 can be found in the Microsoft Teams app. You will find homework for the week in the assignments tab with any resources needed attached. You can also view homework HERE please ask for the password if you are not able to view it in our class team.
