Homework

Homework

UPDATE- In line with Covid-19 guidance, our homework policy will change for the time being. All homework will be completed digitally using the Microsoft Teams app. Teachers will assigned homework using the assignments tab and pupils will upload their completed work in order for their teachers to mark it.

Pupils are mainly given homework to :

• help consolidate and give practice in on going classroom work.
• encourage parental involvement by providing information about their child’s work.
• assist in promoting good study habits which should have long term benefits for the pupil.

The type of homework will depend on the age and aptitude of the
individual pupil. The provision will range from extra reading practice for younger pupils
to independent research for the older pupil. Pupils will normally have homework
each evening. Monday- Thursday; occasionally pupils (particularly older pupils) may
be given homework for a week at one time. This will help them to become
independent and prepare them for high school. Homework will not normally
be given over a weekend unless there is a particular reason.

To assist both parents and pupils each child from P4-P7 will have a homework diary.
This provides parents with information about the work and also an indication
of their role.
The date, task and due date should have been entered by your child in class.
Parents are asked to sign the diary and make comments if appropriate.
Please feel free to use this as a means of communication
or for a relevant comment about the homework.

Presentation should be neat and completed with great care.

Please supervise your child but do avoid doing his/her homework for them.
If your child is confused about the piece of work
please use his/her diary to let their teacher know.
If your child gets something wrong please do not correct
but ask them to do it again.

Time spent on homework should not be excessive as pupils are expected to work
to their full potential during the school day. As a general rule, the amount of time spent
each evening on homework set by the teacher should be as follows:

P1 -10 minutes per night
P2 – 15 minutes per night
P3&4 – 20 minutes per night
P5&6 – 25 minutes per night
P7 – 30 minutes per night
