Room 2 Space Topic

Room 2
This is the last week on our space topic.  Have a look at the link below to find out about the Milky Way.  See if you can collect these facts:
1.  Why is our galaxy called the Milky Way?
2.  What are galaxies held together by?
3.  Is the Milky Way an elliptical, a spiral or an irregular galaxy?

Coatbridge Rovers Fitness Booklet

Gary Flint from Coatbridge Rovers Football Club has contacted me to share a fitness booklet that was created to keep pupils active and healthy during this period of lockdown.  I will attach the link below and will also put the link to the resource in the parent information tab so that it can be found and accessed easily.

Important Information for Parents/Carers

Dear Parent/Carer

I hope you are all safe and well.  As a staff we are missing all of our pupils so much.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your efforts in helping your child/ children engage with their online learning.  We know how difficult this will be, even as a staff we are finding it a challenge to adapt to a new way of working.

The best advice is, to do what you can do.  If you can access the online learning resources and are using them, that’s great.  If you are unable to gain access or are deciding to do your own thing with regards to schooling, that’s great too.  We want you to do what is best for you and what works for your family circumstances.  Please don’t put pressure on yourself.  When we return to school, the staff will work hard with all of our pupils to reinforce and consolidate their learning so please try not to worry.

Try to vary the types of activities that you are doing and remember that there are lots of learning opportunities in household chores, baking, playing board games, reading for enjoyment, outdoor activities and dance etc.  Do what you can, when you can and most importantly try to have as much fun as you can.

I have added a link to the latest newsletter released by NLC education.  Please read the contents carefully and if you have any questions regarding anything in it or anything I have mentioned above, please do not hesitate to contact me via email.

Microsoft Teams

As a staff we are constantly striving to find the best way to communicate with and provide online learning resources for our pupils.  Going forward we feel that using both the pupil SharePoint and Microsoft Teams is going to be the most effective way for us to do this. I have manually added the Microsoft Teams tile to every pupils’ personal launchpad, this can be accessed by logging into Glow and clicking on the symbol that looks like a person on the left hand side.  You should then see the Teams tile.

I have found some helpful videos and I will provide the links to them below to assist you with this.  Ms Giblin and myself have also created some helpful step by step powerpoints to assist you too.  Our aim is to give you time this week to familiarise yourself with logging into Teams and to get used to helping your child access their class Team tile.  In here they will find a conversation feed, which allows them a safe space to chat to their friends and teacher(s) as well as upload pictures of their work.

I will also add all of the files on this post into the parent information tab at the top of the blog to allow you to access them easily.

If you have any questions about accessing Microsoft Teams then please email me and I will be happy to help.

Monday 20th April

Good morning Everyone,

I hope you all had a lovely Easter break with your family and enjoyed some of this fabulous weather we have had. It feels very strange not to be returning to school after our break but keeping everyone safe is important. The staff still have work in your class folders on Sharepoint for you to access if you need it.  This work will be changed on Wednesday as normal.  I know that staff also have Sumdog competitions/ challenges running too.  Remember you can send us pictures of your work in Sharepoint.

It is another lovely day again today so remember to enjoy some time outside where it is safe to do so.

I have put the Sharepoint instructions in the parent tab area just incase anyone needs a refresher of how to access the area with your child(ren) work in it.  We have also set up a Microsoft TEAM for every class in the school.  We will be adding helpful videos and powerpoints to the blog and the parent tab this week to help you to become familiar with it before we try using it next week.  If you have any questions regarding the use of Teams then please email me and I will be happy to help- elainepaterson@langloan.n-lanark.sch.uk

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS/CARERS

Some of our Langloan staff are volunteering in the St Ambrose HUB this week.  This means that they have a teaching responsibility outwith their normal class and will be expected to focus on that.  Therefore you will notice that your child’s class teacher will not be online or engaging online on the day they are working in the HUB.  Other members of the Langloan team will be on hand to cover the classes and questions/ support will still be provided.

Have a great day everyone!
