P7’s @ Strathclyde Park – Day 3

After a brilliant day of cycling in the sunshine, Primary 7 really enjoyed getting back to nature on our third day at Strathclyde Park. We spent the morning building our own dens in the woods. We used tarpaulins and ropes as well as anything we could find to create a comfortable shelter for our teams.  Our dens had campfires, a space for sleeping and even a tree swing!
In the afternoon, we channelled our inner Hawkeye and had a go at archery 🏹 We practised our accuracy over a short distance before moving on to a team relay and lots of other fun games.  We finished the day off with a game of kickball rounders ⚽️
We can’t believe there’s only one day left of our adventure week! We plan to make the most of it!

P7’s @ Strathclyde Park – Day 2

Primary 7 had another brilliant day at Strathclyde Park and today was only about one thing; cycling!  We spent the morning completing our Bikeability 1 certificate, demonstrating that we knew how to check our bikes and keep them under control. We then showed how to signal and turn before playing some games and zooming down the big grass hill!
After lunch, we made the most of the glorious sunshine and went for a cycle around the park, putting all our skills into practice along the way.
Looks like we’re in for another sunny day tomorrow! Sun tan lotion at the ready! We can’t wait! 😎😎😎

P7 @ Strathclyde Park – Day 1

The Primary 7’s had a great first day at Strathclyde Park! The sun was shining as we rode on pedalos and crashed into each other on the bumper boats. We had a go on the indoor rowing machines and even got to whiz around on a speedboat!

After a quick lunch, it was time for some water games. We had to use all of our team building skills to transfer water from one bucket to another. Our strength was put to the test trying to win the tug of war before showing off our throwing skills in a mini Highland Games.

What an action packed start to the week! We can’t wait for Day 2 😀

Now & Then in Banton

This term the Biggies have been learning something of the history of Banton. They have looked at housing, jobs, food and how they have changed over the last few hundred years.

Over the last couple of days the class put together a display of all that they have learnt. You can slide the children away to see their work!

Bizarre Banton Beasties

If you go down to Dow’s wood or look around the Banton playground you may get a big surprise.

The Biggies have been faking news. We read the Pacfic Tree octopus site and we were inspired.

You need to look very carefully at the ‘evidence’ some creatures are good at hiding.

eco focus day

We had an eco focus day last week.

In preparation we did some litter picking on Thursday:

A small load of rubbish

On Friday we started thinking about What A Wonderful World we live in (cue song).

We joined in with the #showthelove tag organised by The Climate Coalition, and decorated some Green Hearts.

The then looked at the Lyrics of What a Wonderful World and used them to write some poems, here are a few:

Earth awaking
To wake up in the morning to see the sun awaking,
To see the grass left with a white covered layer,
To see the tree swaying with the tiniest of breeze,
To see the deer grazing at peace,
To hear the birds chirping happy to be alive,
To feel the earth awakening ready to thrive,
To not know what’s coming next in you life,
To see each animal all worked up inside,
Our earth has things we can’t believe but sometimes it’s the simplest thing that puts us at ease.

Wonderful world
Small world, big world,
Rolling around the sun world.
Cold world, hot world,
Full of mud world!

Animal world, dry world,
Weather world, colourful world,
Massive sized world.

Plant world, water world,
Full of food world,
Gravity world, noises world.
Full of wildlife world,
We’re killing our home world.

Wonderful world
Big and small,
Tall and short,
Beautiful and ugly I love it all.

Sea and land,
Fish and animals,
I know all like the back of my hand.

We then though about more practice things, how deal with rubbish in School and at home. Where our water comes from and how to stop it all being wasted.

Finally we made some green seed bomb hearts to share some flowers!

Climate Change

We have been learning a bit about Climate Change in the lead up to COP 26.

The Biggies were invited to take part in a digital book that is being passed to schools and others to add their thought on climate change. It is  digital book and we will share the finished product.  Our pages seen me to go down well.

We will share some of the work we made over the next week.  The featured image above came from the ideas of some of the children much better than their teachers. Here is how the Biggies introduced themselves:

And here are some posters they made about how we can help do our bit about climate change in school or at home. We included them in a couple of videos we added to the digital book. Click to see bigger versions:

The class worked with a great deal of indpendence to put together all the media for the digital book. Their skills

The Biggies are Back

And they are a pretty decent bunch.

The class have settled in really well and are working hard with a great attitude.

We are going to continue with the idea that we do not need a strict set of rules as long as we are “Pretty Decent Kids”. We spent some time thinking about the sorts of things that a Pretty Decent Kid would be like. From explorative through silly to creative. We made some graphics to represent these ideas. Click on the thumbnails below to see in more detail.
