Room 11 preparations for Mother’s Day

We have been very busy learning all about sustainability and how to reduce our plastic waste.  On Wednesday we learned that many household items that we weren’t expecting contained plastic and also how difficult it can be to recycle.  We are hoping to create some art next week with our plastic rubbish.

We had a week of consolidation with our spelling, as some of us found the ‘ie’ sound and the ‘f’ family difficult.  We are also getting to grips with fractions.  Fractions of a shape and of an amount.

In preparation for Mother’s Day we made some paper flowers.  I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Easter Code

On Tuesday last week, the chaplaincy team came in for us to take part in the Easter Code workshop, alongside Room 23. We found out about some of the traditions that Christians take part in and also what Jewish people celebrate at this time of year.  Some of the traditions might be that when you go to someone’s house they may greet you with washing your feet or they might serve you traditional food and drinks. It was a fun morning!

World Book Day

For World Book Day, we could come in wearing comfy clothes, pyjamas or we could dress up as our favourite book characters. We started the day off with a live ‘Footy and Booky Quiz’ where the questions were read out by authors and some famous footballers! We got to do some social DEAR time with our friends and Miss Napier brought in some biscuits for us to munch!

WW2

On Friday last week, we learned about the people who cracked Germany’s secret codes and messages during WW2 using a machine called Enigma. Winston Churchill wanted the cleverest people on the team trying to crack the code, but it wasn’t just people who were mathematicians and engineers. It was people who were good at solving puzzles like crosswords. For maths, we tried to solve Sudoku puzzles. They’re number puzzles linked to problem solving, so we’d be thinking like the code crackers! We started with a 6×6 puzzle and then tried a 9×9 puzzle if we managed it.

It’s the anniversary of the Clydebank Blitz today (13th March). We’ve learned a bit about the different Blitz locations this week and why they were targeted. We also started some artwork that we’ll finish next week.

British Science Week

We had Poppy from our class, and some other STEM leaders, do a lesson for us on Monday. We did balloon rockets and talked about actions, reactions and forces.

World Book Day in Room 13

We have had a full day of celebrating everything we love about books!

We began the day with watching and drawing along with Author Tom Percival through his Authors Live Event. We even saw some familiar faces in the audience as some of our current P7 pupils attended this event when they were in P3. Tom taught us how to draw emotions, showing how drawing eyebrows can have a huge impact on our characters! As a class we love illustrating so this was super handy!

We then used the Indi’s to build an algorithm for a story! We sequenced well known stories such as the Three Little Pigs and The Tiger Who Came to Tea and created an algorithm for Indi to follow to show the path of the story. We are very good at using the Indi’s already so it was fun to challenge ourselves in a different way.

We also had our Social DEAR Time. This is a time where we can share our love of books and reading with our friends, if we wish to. We can read with our friends or make our own books, which we love to do in Room 13. Some pupils chose to read their books in the quiet zone as they were too into the story to be social!

Lastly we put our creativity to the test when Mrs Campbell challenged us to turn a fork into a famous book character! We had to use our abstraction skills to hone in on the features of the character that are most recognisable as the aim of the game was for each other to guess what character we made. I think the pupils did a fantastic job!!

Overall we had the best day celebrating our love of reading and all that reading gives us!

Well done!

Room 6 – School Trip to the Burrell Collection

Yesterday, we swapped school for and an exciting adventure at the Burrell Collection in Glasgow.

Nestled in the beautiful heart of Pollok Country Park, the museum provided the perfect backdrop for a day filled with history, hands-on learning, and a good dose of energetic fun. We wanted to share some highlights of our day with you

Part 1: Stepping Back in Time – The Knights & Castles Workshop

One highlight of our morning was the interactive Knights and Castles workshop. We became instant historians as we were introduced to the medieval world.

The workshop leaders were fantastic, bringing the past to life with stories and artefacts. We learned about who lived in castles, what they wore, and—most importantly—how they stayed safe!

Looking at Armour

Imagine the ooohs and aaahs when we were shown real, heavy pieces of replica armour! We had the chance to look closely at helmets, chainmail, and gauntlets. We learned about the different parts of a suit of armour and why it was designed that way (though we all agreed it looked very heavy to wear all day!). It was a wonderful sensory experience, allowing us to visualize the weight and texture of history.

Dressing Up

The room truly erupted with excitement during the dressing-up session. Every child had the opportunity to don a helmet, wrap themselves in a cloak or put on a dress. We saw mini-knights marching and princesses curtsying. Seeing them fully immersed in character was a joy, and it really helped them connect with the information they had been learning.

Part 2: Running Wild at the Play Park

After lunch (which was a military operation of its own!), it was time to burn off some of that knightly energy. We headed outside to the adventure play park, located just outside the museum entrance.

This isn’t just any play park—it’s designed with natural materials and features structures inspired by the collection itself. There were plenty of things to climb, balance on, and slide down.

The Infamous Zipline

Of course, the star of the show for Primary 2 was the zipline. There was a steady queue of eager children waiting for their turn to whiz through the air, shouting with glee. It was the perfect grand finale to our active day. The park’s setting within the woodland of Pollok Park made it feel like a real outdoor adventure, even though we were just minutes from the city centre.

Part 3: More to See Inside

After the park, we had some time to explore a few more of the museum’s 24 galleries. The Burrell is extremely family-friendly, with lots of low-level displays and digital interactives designed specifically for younger visitors.

The children particularly enjoyed the interactive screens , and the open spaces that allowed them to marvel at the sheer size of some of the ancient statues and doorways.

A Day to Remember

Our trip to The Burrell Collection was a resounding success. It beautifully balanced educational enrichment with physical activity and imaginative play.

Thanks to all the parent helpers who came along with us.

World Book Day in Room 11

The children enjoyed taking part in the live lesson on BBC discussing their reading vibes; where they like to read and how they like to read.

In the afternoon we read the first chapter of World’s Worst Children by David Walliams.  it was all about Dribbling Drew.  The children were tasked with creating a front cover for the chapter and including a blurb.  The results were fantastic- have a look and see!
