8.5.26

Hello everyone ,

This week in room 16 we have been pretty busy.

We have been growing our own broad beans with Ms Kerr. We are doing an experiment to see what plant grows the best. We are doing this by testing different conditions; one plant will have everything. The other 4 will each have no seed, no soil, no water or no sunlight. We will water them every Monday,Wednesday and Friday. We can’t wait to see which one grows best.

Due to the upcoming elections p5 are going to be electing their own class minister in each class. We are going to be doing posters, speeches and drama to recreate the election in class. We have been practicing our persuasive writing  with Miss Muir to prepare for the speeches.

For numeracy we have been looking at the link between decimals, fractions and percentages. We have been drawing hundred squares to help us see what parts of a whole look like.

Thank you for reading this blog. I hope you come back to hear more about our class, lots of love room 16.

Room 17

This week, we have been very busy in Room 17! We have been lucky to have an extra teacher joining us, Miss Young, who has been helping us learn all about fractions. Although fractions can be a little tricky, everyone has been working really hard and doing a fantastic job.

We have also started an exciting new topic called Class First Minister. During this topic, we are learning about the Scottish Parliament and how elections work. Soon, we will even be choosing our own class First Minister for the day!

As well as our classroom learning, we have been busy preparing for Sports Day on the 20th of May. We have been practising different events, including the flat race and the egg-and-spoon race, and we are all looking forward to taking part.

Room 4

This week in Room 4, the children have been very busy and engaged in lots of exciting learning across the curriculum.

In maths, we introduced the topic of money with Miss Reid. The children explored recognising, identifying and sorting 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2 coins through a range of fun, play-based experiences, including our class shop. They enjoyed sorting coins in different ways, such as by shape, colour and value. As the week progressed, the children developed their confidence by paying for items using the exact amounts and even began combining different coins to make totals.

In literacy, we introduced the ‘ch’ joint phoneme. The children took part in a variety of engaging activities to help them identify, read and write words containing this sound. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and growing confidence in applying their phonics knowledge.

In PE, we began practising for our upcoming Sports Day. The children had lots of fun taking part in the egg and spoon race.. They showed great determination and resilience, continuing to try even when the egg fell off their spoon.

Comments from the children about what they enjoyed this week:

Room 24

After we learned how to do CPR last week, we expanded our knowledge further by beginning to create a 6 page First Aid flip book. So far we have learned how to create a flow chart so that information can be looked at quickly, and we’ve written down explanations of how to put a patient in the recovery position and included a bit of information about the CPR process.

We have been looking at money in maths this week. Today we learnt about profit and loss and how if you buy something and sell it for more, you’d make what’s called a ‘profit’ on it.

We started athletics training too by getting into pairs and timing each other doing the 100m sprint with stop watches. Next time, we’ll be timing how long it takes for us to complete 2 laps of the pitch.

In RME, we have been looking at all the different beliefs people might have and that it’s important to respect these, even if they’re different from our own. We shared all the information we could remember about the different religions we’ve learned about over the years, and discussed that some people might have beliefs that don’t follow any religion. The main message from the lesson was that not everyone has the same beliefs and that it’s important to be true to ourselves and our own beliefs, not letting anyone influence or try to change what we believe.

Room 3

This week in Primary 1 has been full of exciting learning and lots of opportunities to build confidence across different curricular areas.

In Literacy, we have been focusing on the “ch” sound. The children have been practising recognising this sound at the beginning and within words, as well as trying to use it in their own reading and writing. We explored a variety of fun activities to help reinforce this, including word matching, sounding out simple words and sharing words that feature the “ch” sound. It’s been wonderful to see the children becoming more confident in identifying and using this new sound.

In Maths, we have been consolidating our understanding of numbers up to 20. The children have been working on number recognition, ordering numbers and developing their counting skills. We’ve also been using practical resources and games to support their learning.

In P.E., we have been busy preparing for Sports Day. The children have been practising a variety of races, focusing on developing their coordination and speed. They have shown great enthusiasm and determination while getting ready for the different events and we are looking forward to seeing them take part with confidence and excitement.

I hope you have a lovely long weekend!

Room 6 Showcase

Welcome to the Room 6 Showcase!

What a brilliant afternoon we had! A huge thank you to all the parents, grandparents, and carers who managed to join us for our Room 6 Showcase. We were jumping up and down all week because we were so excited to show you our classroom and all the hard work we do.

Here is a big list of all the fun things we did together!

Making Crazy Characters!

First, we all sat on the carpet for a special computing task, but we didn’t even use computers! We taught you a massive word: Algorithm.

An algorithm just means following instructions step-by-step. We had to give you the rules to draw our very own Crazy Characters. It was so funny because if we said the instructions in the wrong order, our characters ended up with eyes on their knees instead of their heads!

Showing You Our Learning Stations

After that, the classroom was open and we got to be the bosses! We got to choose which stations to take you to and show you how to do the activities.

  • Station 1: Cut and Paste Sounds! We used our scissors to cut out our phonemes and pasted them down to make words. All that cutting makes our fingers really strong for writing!

  • Station 2: Playing Dominoes! We sat down with you to play dominoes. We showed you how we are getting really fast at looking at the dots and knowing the number without even having to count them!

  • Station 3: Magic Mirrors! We showed you how to find lines of symmetry. We put small mirrors on shapes to see if we could make them look exactly the same on both sides. It looked like magic!

  • Station 4: Tricky Letter Boards! At this table, we used the letter boards to spell out our tricky words and phoneme sounds. It is really fun to build words with our hands instead of always using a pencil.

  • The Play Area! This is our favourite part of the classroom! We loved taking you into our play area, sharing our toys, and making up fun games with you.

Thank you for coming into our school to play and learn with us. We had the best afternoon ever!
