With our topic being Australia, we created some Aboriginal art. We used stencils to draw round animals like a kangaroo, emu, snake, turtle or platypus. Then we used the end of our paintbrushes to dot around our animal to create bold art. We think they turned out great!

Some of our other art this week was creating habitat displays. We used a massive piece of paper and everybody had to draw or make their own animals in their Australian habitat. These habitats were the Great Barrier Reef, the Outback, grasslands and rainforests. We could use anything we liked to create the displays, so long as we worked well together to create them.

We’ve been doing discursive writing and the discussions in class have been interesting because everything thinks different things. This week we had two questions to choose from to write about:

  • Should you be allowed to reserve sun loungers on holiday?
  • Should children be made to do chores around the house?

Most of us chose to write about the sun loungers! We all had very different opinions on this but around half of us agreed you should be able to reserve them, and the other half thought you shouldn’t!

Today we’ll be rounding off a great week with the sponsored fun run at 10:00! We can’t wait!

Symmetrical Tuesday in Room 5

Today in Room 5, we have been learning about symmetry. Here are our learner statements.

Alice: Symmetry is when you half something down the middle and you have two equal parts.

Beth: We were using objects to make symmetrical towers.

Heidi: Sometimes it is hard to make things symmetrical.

Xayah: I liked creating my symmetrical butterfly as my jotter task.

Ollie: We used rulers to measure things to see if they were symmetrical.

Eilidh: I liked building a symmetrical tower with the stickle bricks.

Alex M: We were using cardboard boxes to make symmetrical buildings.

Fraser: I was using the lego to make a symmetrical.

Violet: I enjoyed making a symmetrical tower with the lego.

Emmeline: I was making a building with the loose parts.

Sam: We were learning about symmetry.

Calvin: Symmetrical is when something is the same on each side.

Alice: If you get a shape and half it down the middle and it isn’t the same on both sides, that means it’s asymmetrical.

Ethan: We used the stickle bricks to create a building.

Room 8

Good afternoon from room 8! We now have 5 fully grown caterpillars, and we predict that they will all be settled into their cocoons by Monday. We have had so much fun recording their growth each day and we can’t wait to have pet butterflies. We are already thinking about how much we will miss them when they have to go! We have also been working on consolidating our sounds and we are beginning to look at persuasive writing. Currently we are writing to convince Mrs Meechan if we should keep homework or get rid of it. What do you think and why? As you may know, we have been looking at the future for our current topic and this week we designed our own futuristic robots which we then made come to life through different methods of creation. One of our ideas were a teacher robot who had multiple heads to teach lots of pupils different things at once!!!

Just a reminder that parents night is on Thursday and we have our sponsored fun run on Friday!

The World Cup

In Room 2, our interdisciplinary topic is the ‘World Cup’. We have been getting very excited about countries, flags and Scotland.

DP – Some of us were talking about the World Cup and we were singing songs at the assembly in the lunch hall. In class, we looked at the Scotland football strip for the World Cup. We looked at all the countries who were taking part in the World Cup. We put some of the football kits that we made on our IDL wall.

MM – There are 48 countries that are taking part in the World Cup. We went to our ‘sharing assembly’.

NN – We were learning about the World Cup and we were sharing all about it at assembly.

LA – I am in the World Cup at my football club.

SC – We put numbers on our football kits.

IJ – We designed our own football kits.

AH – We made a World Cup using cardboard and paint. It is gold and green.

LM – We looked at all of the countries that are going to play football at the World Cup – Turkey, Scotland, France and England.

We are excited to learn more about Scotland and the World Cup as the term continues. 🙂

  • Read more than half way of our book Pugs of the Frozen North
  • Utilised our times tables for long multiplication
  • Practised our sports day skills and completed most of our challenges
  • Worked with each other to order and arrange our enterprise items we plan on selling on our day

Thanks,

Room 20 Blooms

We have been creating gorgeous flower bouquets in class using our imagination and creativity.

I am sure you will agree that these would look fabulous in any home.

The children were set a challenge with limited resources to produce foliage, flowers and either a vase or covering to hold the flowers.

They all turned out very different but equally beautiful.

Australia Topic – For our topic we were researching animals from different Australian habitats like grass. We had to choose an animal and note down facts about them, and then research what type of landscape is found in that habitat. We’ll be drawing these animals and adding them to a big display outside our class that will show all the different habitats.

First Aid – This week, we rotated round 4 different stations that taught us about burns and scalds. Station 1: Adding instructions to our first aid booklets. Station 2: Using cold water to treat a burn or scald. Station 3: How to dress a burn. Station 4: ‘Spot the Burns Hazard’ task.

Maths – We started our information handling learning by watching a timelapse video of the most popular websites from 1993 – 2025. We had to compare the difference between the number of users a website started with, and the number it ended with in 2025. Some of the websites had something like 74 BILLION users in 2025!

Writing – We continued our discursive writing this week by choosing one of these 2 questions to write about: Should the school summer holidays be shortened? or Should zoos be closed? We had to think about arguments for and against each subject and link it with evidence, statistics and quotes we were given. We’ll be writing in this way again next week with two different questions to choose from.

Room 3

We’ve had a fantastic week in Primary 1 and the children have settled back into our routines very well after the long weekend. It has been lovely to see everyone returning ready to learn and engage enthusiastically in all of our activities.

In Literacy, we have been learning the ‘ng’ sound. The children have been practising recognising the sound in words, reading words containing ng and working hard on their letter formation during written activities.

In Numeracy, we are continuing to consolidate our numbers to 20. Our focus has been on correct number formation and developing an understanding of place value. The children have been using practical materials and games to help build confidence when working with numbers.

We are also continuing our preparations for Sports Day. The children have been practising different races and activities, showing great teamwork, encouragement and enthusiasm.

I hope you have a lovely weekend!
