Pilot Schools Parent Carer Letter

Dear Parent / Carer,

I am writing to let you know that your child’s school has been chosen to participate in the Scottish Government’s year-long Test of Change pilot that will extend free school meals to more secondary pupils and may benefit your family.

The pilot will entitle pupils in S1-S3, whose parent or carer receives the Scottish Child Payment, to a free school lunch each day for the 2025/26 school year.

As this is a trial initiative, only four schools across the city will participate – Castlemilk High School, Drumchapel High School, Lochend Community High School, and Springburn Academy.

If your child is in S1-S3 and you receive the Scottish Child Payment, you must apply via our online application form.

If your child already receives free school meals, you do not have to reapply.

In order to apply for free school meals, families will require a MyAccount first. If they do not have an account set up, they can register at signin.mygovscot.org/home/.

This pilot does not entitle pupils to free breakfasts, the school holiday payment, or the school clothing grant. Only those who are financially eligible – based on their parent/carer’s income or the benefits they receive – are entitled to this.

If you think you may be financially eligible, you can check the criteria here: https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/article/2492/Clothing-Grants-Free-School-Meals

Yours sincerely
