Celebrating Diwali

Successful Learners/Confident Individuals/Responsible Citizens

The Asteroids celebrated Diwali this morning – the Festival of Lights.

We practised the Diwali Makaton sign and learned about the different things people do to celebrate Diwali. One of these being creating a Rangoli to place at their front doors. These are very colourful and we made our very own using different shapes, pom poms and glitter. We even threaded some beads to make tassels for it! We enjoyed celebrating light over darkness by having our own sensory light experience inthe classroom.

Well done, Asteroids!

Diwali

*Effective Contributors    *Successful Learners

We were busy doing Diwali activities today. We watched a powerpoint to tell us all about the ‘Festival of Light’ then afterwards made salt dough and used this to create diva lamps. They have yet to be dried and painted but they’re looking good already. We watched Diwali videos and made colourful Rangoli pattern window decorations which looked wonderful with the sun shining through them.

RME Diwali

We have been learning about Diwali the Hindu festival of lights. The Bluebells enjoyed a sensory story where we explored sensory props and took part in role play to learn about the celebration. In the Bluebells the children were confident individuals following instructions to make diva lamps. We were successful learners when we created rangoli patterns using different art materials including rice, sand and paint. Mehndi patterns are a traditional Hindu hand decoration we used crayons to create our own. A massive congratulations to the Bluebells who won the rangoli competition.

Global Goal 2 – Zero Hunger

This term we have been learning about Global Goal 2 – Zero Hunger.

We discussed how we could do our part to help with zero hunger.  Is there anything we can grow at home to help with meals.  We explored the process of growing our own vegetables and create a  poster of the vegetables we can grow at home.

We were successful learners in starting the growth of some carrots and radish, our spinach didn’t quite work. We are all very happy and proud that we managed to get some food growing.

RME – Diwali 2021

*Successful learners* *Effective Contributors*

The Sungazers have been learning about Diwali, the Festival of Lights, by listening to stories. We got involved in the school challenge to make the most colourful, unique Rangoli pattern. Rangoli patterns are placed to welcome the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi – the goddess of wealth – to your house and are thought to bring good luck! We used a combination of chalk pens and dot painting to complete our Art work
