IDL: Diwali

The Beech class had really good fun this week celebrating Diwali!  We were successful learners as we explored the religious festival of Diwali by making traditional Hindu items.

We made Diva lamps out of salt dough, rangoli patterns out of spiced play-dough and dyed rice and we also made special lanterns as it is a ‘Festival of Light. ‘

We were busy doing Diwali activities today. We watched a powerpoint to tell us all about the ‘Festival of Light’ then afterwards made salt dough and used this to create diva lamps. They have yet to be dried and painted but they’re looking good already. We watched Diwali videos and made colourful Rangoli pattern window decorations which looked wonderful with the sun shining through them.

The Sungazers have been learning about Diwali, the Festival of Lights, by listening to stories. We got involved in the school challenge to make the most colourful, unique Rangoli pattern. Rangoli patterns are placed to welcome the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi – the goddess of wealth – to your house and are thought to bring good luck! We used a combination of chalk pens and dot painting to complete our Art work
