Effective Contributors – Dance Rehearsal

The Transition class were hard at work rehearsing for their Christmas performance. They were all Effective Contributors listening to the music and following instructions. Numeracy skills were called upon to count steps. No clues yet to what our theme is!

REMEMBRANCE DAY 2021

*Responsible Citizens* *Successful Learners*

The Sungazers have been busy this week learning about Remembrance Day. We visited the monument on our local walk and could see some poppies through the glass doors of the Kilmarnock War Memorial. We then made our own Poppy Wreathes and lay them outside the classroom today.

Remembrance Day

Today, the Asteroids were responsible and participated well in Remembrance Day activities.
We looked at poppies and their colours and how poppies are produced in Scotland. We made our own poppies using different materials: we used red and green play dough to make poppy shapes, we made a poppy sun catcher using tissue paper and we decorated a biscuit with red icing and a chocolate button for the centre.

Remembrance Day

*Responsible Citizens    *Successful Learners

The Stars Class made ‘spinning’ poppies which we used to embellish a Remembrance poster for the classroom door. We made tasty iced poppy biscuits, split pin poppies as well as stopping for a 1 minute silence. We talked about why people buy and wear poppies.

FOAL – Enterprise – Garden Spinners

*Confident Individuals    *Outdoor Education

We embellished CD’s with jewels and glitter then hung them in the sensory garden. They spun in the wind and sparkled in the sunshine. They made lovely garden ornaments.

IDL – Sciences – Stem Challenge – How Strong is Spaghetti?

*Effective Contributors    *Successful Learners

We quickly learnt that a single strand of spaghetti is very weak and breaks easily. However, if you place them closely packed together they form a strong bond. They are stronger bundled together horizontally rather than vertically.

Responsible Citizens on Remembrance Day

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Daisies class were very responsible during today’s minute silence. We all sat nice and calm when the bell rang. We particularly enjoyed the cBeebies poppy field animation clip.

We used pastels to create a sunset picture. Some of us chose to include fields, poppies and soldiers in our pictures. They are very effective!

Remembrance Day Activities

Responsible Citizens      Effective Contributors       Successful Learners

The Snowdrops have all responded well to a variety of activities relating to Remembrance Day.  Everyone showed interest in a Power Point explaining the different ways we remember things and the importance of Remembrance Day.  Pupils interacted well with sensory red textures; sprinkling red coloured rice and creating Poppy flower shapes with red play doh.  We used red handprints to create our own Poppy flowers and also glued red tissue paper to make a Poppy suncatcher and designed our own medals.

FAOL – ENTERPRISE: FARM TO FORK CAFE

*Responsible Citizens* *Confident Individuals* *Effective Contributors*

The pupils in the Sungazers set up their own class cafe this term with a Farm to Fork twist as part of our theme. We added some freshly prepared snacks to the menu using farm fresh produce. Each week, the pupils have taken on different roles to ensure the cafe runs smoothly. Here are some photos of our responsible citizens fulfilling their roles:
