Science and Holi Week, St Patrick’s and Red Nose Day

Successful Learners   Confident Individuals    Responsible Citizens     Effective Contributors

The Moonbeams have had a fantastic week of learning through a variety of themes. Every day they have taken part in a Science experiment related to each of our senses. Their favourite was the hearing experiment. The children have also been learning about Holi this week which is a festival of colours celebrated by Hindu’s.  They made colourful cosmic suncatchers. They enjoyed hearing stories about Leprechaun’s and pots of gold during St Patrick’s Day and today they have celebrated Red Nose Day by making a big Red Nose Meringue and showing it off to their friends in other classes during a virtual celebration this afternoon. The children also donated money for a dress down day.

It’s been a busy week full of fun learning. Take a look at our amazing

Science week and Red Nose Day!

This week was science week and Red Nose Day. A big thank you to transition class for giving us science experiments each day. They were to do with the senses of the body! The comets loved the experiments! They loved it.

We celebrated st Patrick’s day by making our own hats and leprechaun faces!

On Wednesday they had the lovely mrs McDonald. They made up there own ideas and some of them are fantastic. They also did some lovely fish art.

We did some fruit tasting after our local walk. We cut up the fruit by ourselves and tasted them. We liked some and didn’t like others. We know how to cut fruit safely.

We also looked at the timeline of the titanic and sorted it out in order. We now know that the titanic was not in the water for long before it sunk. We looked how to build the titanic out of Lego and even tried to build our own boats out of Lego. They look fantastic.

We have had a very exciting and fun time in comets this week, with plenty of things going on.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Science Week

We have been successful learners during British Science week.

We have completed lots of experiements to learn about our senses and especially enjoyed using our sense of touch to guess what objects were hidden in a box, and mixing ingredients to create smelly slime!

St Patrick’s Day/Holi/Science Week

Effective Contributors and Successful Learners

During this busy week, the Sunflowers have celebrated St Patrick’s Day by learning all about the Leprechaun that followed the rainbow to reach the pot of gold.  Each child helped find the parts of the rainbow and put it together to make their own.  We managed to collect golden chocolate coins when our rainbow was complete.

Holi is known as the Festival of Colour and the Sunflowers loved taking part in coloured science experiments. Each  child watched a clear prism change colours in clear light. As it is Science week, we have had other experiments each day whilst learning about touch, smell, taste, sight and hearing.  Below are also some photos of us experimenting and exploring the senses. What a fun week!

Science Week in the Stars

*Successful Learners

We have thoroughly enjoyed Science Week where we have been exploring our senses by doing a selection of experiments for taste, hearing, light, touch and smell. We learned that a blocked nose (or if you hold your nose) affects your sense of taste and we particularly enjoyed the sound game and ‘dancing’ rice which showed sound waves.

FAOL /Science Week – The Snowdrops Sense Science

Successful Learners   Confident Individuals   Effective Contributors

The Snowdrops have enjoyed exploring the senses during Science Week. Everyone actively participated in experiments relating to the senses, and everyone was very sensible when handling equipment and materials.  The Snowdrops enjoyed using a ray box to look at colours and spinners to see the colours blend together. The Snowdrops were confident in giving their opinion during taste and smell experiments. Some Snowdrops were even able to manage ‘no peeking’ during the touch experiment! Well done, Snowdrops!

All about the science

Science week in Willowbank. We have all been confident individuals making our predictions on the success rate of our experiments. We enjoyed the anticipation of watching what was happening during the experiment and talking about what we see.

St Patrick’s Day

Yesterday Mr Campbell spoke about St Patrick’s day at assembly and his background on the screen made him look like he was in Dublin. Today we went for a rainbow hunt in the garden. We came back to class made the rainbow and found a pot of gold at the end. We then all enjoyed a gold chocolate coin.

We also used a fork to paint a beard on our very own leprechaun. We enjoyed using the fork to make it look like the beard and hair. We then added a green hat to our leprechaun. Some of the pupils were able to independently use the fork making a beard. We then used a pencil to create a face for our leprechaun some had big smiles and some even had big eyebrows.
