Volley Ball Numeracy in the Pine Room

We had great fun playing Balloon Volley Ball in Numeracy this week, we were very successful learners! We counted the balloons, counted the bounces, identified the colours, we practised our gross motor skills by throwing them up in the air, hitting  and kicking them  – all while doing our MOVE – what great exercise.

Biscuit making for SQA Baking – we worked on handling the dough.

This week’s literacy letter was ‘U’.

We made lovely umbrella pictures for our books, and enjoyed listening to the  Letter U song – challenge how many words can you think of that start with the letter U?

FAOL Science – Floating and Sinking

The Asteroids have been confident individuals during our science lesson on floating and sinking.

Firstly we made predictions about whether different objects would float or sink. After we predicted, we tested it out and recorded the results. Did it float or did it sink?

Then we talked about pirate ships and what would happen if the pirates found too much treasure and their ships sunk? We used pennies to try this out.

To test how many pennies it would take to make a pirate ship sink,  we firstly make confident choices about which  recyclable plastic container we wanted to use as our pirate ships.

Then we tried to predict how many coins it would take to sink our own ships. Test time: we had great fun filling our ships with coins and counting how many our ships took till they sunk. We noticed that bigger ships took more coins than smaller ships to sink!

Well done, Asteroids!
