SQA Eco – Responsible Citizens

The Transition boys have been Responsible Citizens and taking part in an up-cycling project for their SQA Eco class. They finished making play roads from pallets and road signs from old AAC lids so had the fun of delivering them to their customers. Lots of fun and smiles all round!

Engineering – Effective Contributors

The Transition class were Effective Contributors when taking part in an Engineering Challenge. For the first part of the challenge we watched an interview with Alyssa Carson who works for NASA! The boys are now trying to think of an invention that would solve a common problem before we send it to be judged.

Successful Learners – Digital Literacy

The Transition boys were Successful Learners this week when they learned about frogs during a literacy lesson. We used the Giglets website to read and listen to a description of the life cycle of a frog. The boys were then tested on what they remembered with an online quiz. 100% correct!

Earth Day Fun!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS *

The Planets class enjoyed celebrating Earth Day yesterday. We listened to some Earth Day songs and read a story relating to Earth Day. We spoke about some things we could do to help the Earth be a better place – like recycling, switching lights and taps off when we do not need them and trying not to over use plastic.

We designed our very own Earth Day tshirts and tried hard to complete some recycling jobs.

We also completed a special Earth themed craft. We used shaving foam and food colouring to create marble effect Earths. We loved doing this and think they look very effective. Finally, we chose 3 Earth Day promises that we are going to try hard to commit to in the future.

Earth Day with the Snowdrops

Effective Contributors/Responsible citizens/Confident IndividualsEarth Day 2021: What's it all about? - CBBC Newsround

For Earth Day we watched songs which celebrated the earth and suggested ways we can help the planet.

We enjoyed looking at a globe in the class and hearing The Tiger Who Came to Tea story which helped us talk about looking after the habitats of tigers.
In the afternoon, the Snowdrops took advantage of the beautiful sunshine and walked to the school garden to hang up our bird feeders. While we were in the garden, we used our looking skills to spot items for our Earth Day scavenger hunt. We were looking for lots of things including leaves, spiders, worms and clouds!

Earth Day in Oak

Today we celebrated Earth Day by having the lights off all day and using minimum electricity.

We enjoyed an afternoon in the garden, we made an Earth Sun-catcher and took it in turns to find the sun and make the colours reflect onto the ground.

We have been responsible citizens and helping the birds find some food.  We made bird feeders so the birds can have a lovely breakfast and dinner.

We also planted some sunflower seeds, fingers crossed we are successful this year and we manage to grow some beautiful sunflowers.

Sungazers – Week beginning Monday 19th April

Earth Day

The Sungazers celebrated World Earth Day by watching a video clip              Earth Hour 21 Official Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHLS7JlSoJ8.

We also created our own ‘Earth Day Handprint Keepsake’ to remind us about the need to protect our environment so that it is a better place to live.

We urge you to take part and support the cause at home by switching off the lights for Earth hour at 8.30 pm on Saturday 27th March.

Together Again in Oak

We are very happy to have almost the everyone within the Oak class back for their first full week!

We have jumped straight back into our usual routine and back on top of things with a very busy week filled with lots of hard work.

They have all been confident individuals in all the tasks that have been set.

In literacy we have completed lots of listening and comprehension tasks, along with working on our reading and forming sentences in a logical order.

This week in numeracy we have been recapping and checking our knowledge on our time and money work.

We love to be very active in the Oak class and we have enjoyed lots of sensory movement breaks to help us refocus between all our hard work tasks.  Here we have two very flexible young men taking part in our yoga session.  We do yoga every day before we have lunch.

This week as part of our Health and Well-being work and Rights Respecting School we have been thinking about talking about what makes a good friend.  Everyone confidently identified their friend then gave some great answers as to why they are their friend.

We have been working on our individual activities that have been set for us to help improve our fine motor skills and hand grip.
