World Book Day with the Asteroids.

We had a lovely day celebrating books and sharing stories!

We looked at our favourite books from home and made confident choices of books to read from the class library. While we read books we did a scavenger hunt of story book items and ticked them off our list.

Our theme of the day was ‘Pirates Love Underpants’ and so we listened to the story and made a bookmark and pirate hat. We then decorated our own WBD cupcakes choosing our own icing colour and finished them off with cake toppers.

Some of us dressed up and the ladies dressed as the Pirates from ‘Pirates love Underpants’!!

We completed a book review stating our favourite scene from the book and our favourite character.

We took part in some jungle experiments, one was successful and one was unsuccessful.

We found lots of goods with the Fairtrade logo and made a collage with rice, tea and lentils. We froze sliced bananas to see how they changed, played bingo and watched video’s and played songs about Fairtrade. Finally we made sundaes using Fairtrade bananas and ice cream and because it was Shrove Tuesday we added pancakes too!

Fairtrade Fortnight.

We have really enjoyed learning about Fairtrade. We listened well to the powerpoint telling us about Fairtrade and why it is a good idea to buy food with the Fairtrade logo.
We familiarised ourselves with the logo and went on a logo hunt in our classroom and the corridor. We thought we had found them all but Mrs Smith found one the next day stuck to the window!

We looked at different kinds of food we can buy with the Fairtrade logo and were super logo spotters, finding the logo on the packaging.

We also made rice krispie cakes with some Fairtrade chocolate – yummy!

Another activity we took part in was painting using Fairtrade coffee! Most of us did not like the smell of the coffee but we enjoyed using it as paint on our super absorbent watercolour paper. Some of us thought it looked like parchment from the Ancient Egyptians!

Successful Learners – Literacy

The Transition class were Successful Learners when they used their literacy skills to express their opinions. They added text to their favourite characters and then spent some time discovering dislikes. This was a hard task because everyone seemed to like everything. We soon found some things that no-one liked!
