Willowbank School, KilmarnockThe Sungazers Class have had great fun exploring the class parakite over the last couple of weeks. Everyone has enjoyed taking a turn to get it to fly with some adult support. We have talked about how we need a windy day to get it to fly more effectively and when there is no wind, we need to run fast with it in order for it to fly! After the holiday we will be making and decorating our own kites to fly!

The Stars class visited CC’s Chocolate Creations in Kilmarnock to watch the owner, Carol, make fantastic chocolate bars and shapes. Carol invited us to dip marshmallows in melted chocolate. They smelled and tasted delicious. As Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is our theme this term we bought not a golden ticket but a golden bar of chocolate for class. Yum! The rest of the class will visit CC’s Chocolate Creations on our next allocated bus day.
The Sungazers Class have been growing cress over the last few weeks. We have decorated our pots by using different designs. In our first pot we used cotton wool to put our seeds on and in the second we used kitchen roll. Everyday we checked our seeds to see how they were growing. The cotton wool pots grew best. We have loved watering our seeds and watching them grow over the last few weeks!
The Stars class had a fantastic time at the Friends of Willowbank Fun Day. Thanks to the Brass and Granite who gifted picnic boxes which we enjoyed at snack time. They were very tasty indeed. We met beautiful therapy ponies, had fun activities in the hall and petted gorgeous guinea pigs, rabbits, very noisy ducks and a tortoise. We had a very happy day.
We have been working hard on number skills by taking part in lots of active maths activities.
We have been ordering numbers, subitising, and corresponding objects to numbers. We have been successful learners and are applying problem solving skills to work independently at activities.
This week the Stars class presented assembly where we talked about being ‘included’ and included other classes by asking them to vote for their favourite song to dance to at the end. The Proclaimers, ‘500 Miles’, was the winning song. We also enjoyed a colour treasure hunt in the garden and had a wonderful sensory experience exploring chocolate ‘Angel Delight’.
Everyone enjoyed working on our independent life skills, we were all successful learners and achieved success in our own way.
We got our faces a little bit messy, we posed in the mirror and had to wipe our face clean.
Each week we will be taking part in different life skills to help us be more independent and look after our bodies.

Changing bed covers & folding clothes
We all have our own style of folding our clothes and making the bed. The boys enjoyed getting into the bed!
The boys in Transition have been practicing their money this week and have been doing excellent with it. From sorting coins into correct ascending order to playing a shopkeeper game and buying items at the listed price. All boys were successful learners and thoroughly enjoyed the activity.

Making our superhero themes class charter!
Our posh London tea party to start off our new topic which explores food around the world. This week we are in London!
Banksy project. 
Lyle and Gemma hosted a tuck shop for the primary department! We made our own freshly squeezed lemonade. 
Music lessons have started in the Beech class – Sean is our lead musician! We are learning to play a tune on the bells this week.
The Stars class used potatoes and onions we grew in the garden to make vegetable soup at H.E. We worked really hard to prepare and chop the vegetables. It tasted delicious.
