A digital hello from the Pine Room

This week for Science and ECO we were responsible citizens and made hanging bird feeders for our feathered friends, we mixed the special bird seed and lard together, then pressed it into cups to mould them. We are just waiting for a nice day to get outside and hang them up.

Join us for a game of dominoes?

We love dominoes in the Pine Room – a great way to do numeracy.

Literacy and Art we have been working on the letter ‘T’ and made some stripey Tiger pictures, below are a couple of links to some ‘T’ activities.

The Letter T Song

The Tiger that came to Tea.

This week is Digital Learning Week.

Highlights were – we took some videos of us carrying out different activities and then watched them back on the big screen, we attended a virtual Pupil Council Meeting and had a wee online ‘sing-song’ before it started

Enjoying some sensory water play, working on our motor skills while doing our hand exercises.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Stars Easter Activities

*Successful Learners                *Responsible Citizens                                        *Confident Individuals              *Effective Contributors

We did some lovely Easter themed activities this week. We created an Easter card, had a shapes treasure hunt and handled lots of different animals at the ‘Petting Zoo’. We had good fun following clues to find the Easter bunny and were rewarded by a chocolate egg from him. At science we did a ‘Humpty Dumpty’ experiment where we explored different ways to save an egg from breaking when dropped from a height. This was good fun. We joined other classes from the upper primary for an outdoor disco where we played games as well as danced. A good week has been had by all.

Science Week in the Stars

*Successful Learners

We have thoroughly enjoyed Science Week where we have been exploring our senses by doing a selection of experiments for taste, hearing, light, touch and smell. We learned that a blocked nose (or if you hold your nose) affects your sense of taste and we particularly enjoyed the sound game and ‘dancing’ rice which showed sound waves.

Stars New Dinosaur Theme

*Successful Learners        *Effective Contributors

We started our dinosaur theme by creating handprint dinosaur pictures for our wall display. At science, we did a floating dinosaur experiment where we saved the dinosaur by adding stones to the jug to raise the water level by displacement. We had fun lighting up glow dinosaurs with a torch and making dinosaur shadows. Mrs Gilchrist used a ‘green’ screen for pupils to act out being a dinosaur and superimposed this on to their chosen background. This was a very exciting use of technology. We used a switch to activate the microwave where we made yummy ‘smores’ by melting marshmallows.

Fairtrade

*Successful Learners      *Responsible Citizens

We found lots of goods with the Fairtrade logo and made a collage with rice, tea and lentils. We froze sliced bananas to see how they changed, played bingo and watched video’s and played songs about Fairtrade. Finally we made sundaes using Fairtrade bananas and ice cream and because it was Shrove Tuesday we added pancakes too!

Fair Trade, LGBT, and a new IDL in the Pine Room.

In the Pine Class we were successful learners in Science, making sensory bottles representing the different  types of weather.  Selecting different things and using our fine motor skills to put them in the bottles – then making lots of noise.

A confident individual in MOVE working on his sitting skills.

In Numeracy we have been working on addition, using building blocks, coloured bean bags and counting blocks.

SQA Cooking we have been matching up the different equipment we have been using with the different pictures.

For SQA Communication this week we played ‘Inside Out’ BINGO and talked about the different characters and our feeling.

Our new IDL Theme is step back in time and our book is ‘The Extraordinary Adventures of Mr Benn’ this week we read the story about the Red Knight and then made some crowns.

We had a game of Fair Trade BINGO and looked at the different types of Fair Trade products that we could buy.

For LGBT week we have been reading different stories and making some colourful artwork, in preparation for Purple Day.

Have a lovely weekend.

LGBT – Rainbow Skittles

Successful Learners   Confident Individuals

The Snowdrops have enjoyed more LGBT theme activities this week. We have explored different colours and have made  beautiful rainbows. The Snowdrops also showed a lot of interest in our science experiment to see if we could make a rainbow using skittles and water. Everyone was very confident when pouring the water and everyone thought the colourful results were amazing!
