Responsible Citizens – Recycling and Litter Pick

The Transition class were Responsible Citizens when they continued their good work with weekly recycling and took part in a litter pick. There were two new volunteers this week for the recycling.

Some of the class were on their outing looking at road signs and they took litter pickers and a bag with them. They were very successful at identifying signs and matching it to their photographs. They collected a whole bag of rubbish from the area just near the school. Well done everyone, what a good effort!

St Andrews Day

The Daisies have enjoyed learning about St Andrews Day. We have been successful learners listening to Scottish music and using a talker to select what instrument we think we heard. Some of the children even tried some Scottish dancing. We were responsible citizens working together to find visuals and match them to a picture on our St Andrews treasure hunt. We made the national flower of Scotland during art – thistles. We finished the day with following a recipe to make porridge for our afternoon snack and loved choosing our own tasty toppings.

Responsible Citizens – Community Travel

The Second half of the class had their opportunity to fly a kite this week, but……… there was no wind! Instead the group took the opportunity to demonstrate safe travel in the community and prove that they are Responsible Citizens. Well done everyone, I’m sure the wind will pick up soon!

Children in Need

The Asteroids class have enjoyed learning about Pudsey Bear and Children in Need.

The boys enjoyed coming to school dressed in their Children in Need t-shirts, pyjamas or casual clothes. They painted their very own Pudsey Bears with moveable arms and legs and decorated cupcakes with bright yellow icing and colourful spots. They enjoyed listening to a story with Mr Tumble and of course, Pudsey too.

Here are some photos from our day:

Children in Need

*Effective Contributors       *Responsible Citizens

We have participated in loads of fun activities for Children in Need. We have made Pudsey ears and a mask as well as a playdoh Pudsey. We have had a duck race, iced Pudsey cakes and enjoyed spotty sensory activities. We thought Children in Need day was a good way to collect money to help other children.

Responsible Citizens – Community Travel and 50 Things to do in the Outdoors

Half the class had the opportunity to go on their community travel outing this week. They combined their trip out with one of their 50 Things to do in the Outdoors. This activity was flying a kite. The group were Responsible Citizens when crossing the road and walking to the park. The wind was variable but everyone managed to get the kite into the air. One pupil (who will remain nameless) managed to crash it into Mr Nicoll’s head. I hope it was an accident!

Responsible Individuals – Community Outing. Remembrance

It was Remembrance Day this week and the Transition class took the opportunity to visit the Memorial Garden. They were all Responsible Citizens when they explored the poetry cut into the metal, looked at the figures on the benches and looked at the information in the garden. All pupils represented  their class well by being very respectful.

REMEMBRANCE DAY 2021

*Responsible Citizens* *Successful Learners*

The Sungazers have been busy this week learning about Remembrance Day. We visited the monument on our local walk and could see some poppies through the glass doors of the Kilmarnock War Memorial. We then made our own Poppy Wreathes and lay them outside the classroom today.

Remembrance Day

Today, the Asteroids were responsible and participated well in Remembrance Day activities.
We looked at poppies and their colours and how poppies are produced in Scotland. We made our own poppies using different materials: we used red and green play dough to make poppy shapes, we made a poppy sun catcher using tissue paper and we decorated a biscuit with red icing and a chocolate button for the centre.
