Willowbank School, KilmarnockThe Transition boys were Confident Individuals during their Health and Wellbeing lesson. We looked at different characteristics and chose those which we would like to see in a friend. It was interesting to see the choices the boys made. Some were the same but each boy had a few characteristics that were different.
The Stars class enjoyed rebound therapy today. Everyone wore a happy smile as they worked hard.
The Stars class had a visit to Café au Latte today. We chose tasty snacks to eat but above all enjoyed a lovely sociable experience with other classes.
We are very confident individuals when bouncing on the trampoline, we demonstrated great listening and core strength and control. Looking at our smiles it is clear we all had great fun, whilst working on skills and improving our fitness.
As part of our Charlie and the Chocolate Factory theme we made ‘lickable wallpaper’ just like in Willy Wonka’s factory. We used ‘Fruit Winders’ to make patterned wallpaper which we were able to lick. It tasted of strawberries and apples.
The Stars class ground wheat to show how flour is made then baked a tasty loaf of bread which we enjoyed for snack. We collected groceries for the Harvest assembly which was then donated to the local food bank.
Today we had fun visiting the sensory garden and harvested lots of fruits and veg from the planters, just like Oliver in the story ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’.
We were responsible citizens and made sure that we were carefully pulling out the veg, and were confident individuals when we were smelling different herbs.
The Stars class visited CC’s Chocolate Creations in Kilmarnock to watch the owner, Carol, make fantastic chocolate bars and shapes. Carol invited us to dip marshmallows in melted chocolate. They smelled and tasted delicious. As Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is our theme this term we bought not a golden ticket but a golden bar of chocolate for class. Yum! The rest of the class will visit CC’s Chocolate Creations on our next allocated bus day.
The Stars class had a fantastic time at the Friends of Willowbank Fun Day. Thanks to the Brass and Granite who gifted picnic boxes which we enjoyed at snack time. They were very tasty indeed. We met beautiful therapy ponies, had fun activities in the hall and petted gorgeous guinea pigs, rabbits, very noisy ducks and a tortoise. We had a very happy day.
This week the Stars class presented assembly where we talked about being ‘included’ and included other classes by asking them to vote for their favourite song to dance to at the end. The Proclaimers, ‘500 Miles’, was the winning song. We also enjoyed a colour treasure hunt in the garden and had a wonderful sensory experience exploring chocolate ‘Angel Delight’.
