Earth Day

Last week on Friday we completed Earth day activities.

Some of the pupils were able to take some paper and put it in the recycling bin in the corridor. We also made sure we turned off the lights when we didn’t need them.
We completed an earth day matching activity and listened to the story about the Lorax saving the earth. We then created our own Lorax picture. We also sat in the dark and used a torch to explore books. This was a favourite activity and all the pupils really enjoyed this.

Earth Day in the Snowdrops

Successful Learners     Effective Contributors     Responsible Citizens  Confident Individuals

On Friday, the Snowdrops celebrated Earth Day 2022. Everyone actively participated as we talked about our Earth and looked at our globe. We decided to invest in our planet by planting some seeds. Everyone showed lots of interest in feeling the soil and looking at the seeds and everyone confidently filled their pots, planted their seeds and watered them too! We are hoping the seeds will grow into beautiful flowers!

The Snowdrops also designed some lovely Earth Day t-shirts! Excellent work Snowdrops!!

Confident Individuals – Earth Day/DofE Tent Practice

The Transition class took advantage of the good weather on Earth Day to switch off our electricity and go out into the park. They were Confident Individuals when practicing setting up tents for DofE. It was a little breezy but everyone persevered and got the tent up. We took time to have our snack together in the outdoors

Responsible Citizens – DofE Training

The Transition class were Responsible Citizens undertaking a training walk for their DofE Expedition section. The task was to do a timed walk to the Palace Theatre. Those that already hold a Bronze award helped those that were doing it for the first time. Some lovely weather helped us out. 17 minutes on the way there, 20 minutes to return (there must be more uphill on the way back!)

Confident Individuals – DofE Cooking

In cooking class this week the Transition class were Confident Individuals. They were trying out smoked sausage and deciding if they preferred it hot or cold. The first major task was removing the wrapper! Once we all had a safe go at that, we carefully sliced some and tasted it cold. After that the class very carefully fried some in a hot pan before trying again. Choices of likes/dislikes were shared. Some pupils liked it cold and some hot. We will have to keep this in mind when preparing our meals for DofE.

Earth Day Activities in Stars Class

*Responsible Citizens

We have done a few activities throughout the week to signify Earth Day. We discussed ways to save energy and recycling followed by a trip to the park where we did a nature scavenger hunt. We planted seeds and built a den in class. Inside the den we read a book by torchlight to show how difficult it would be to do things if we were short of electricity. We also made a microwave sponge which uses less energy to cook than in a conventional oven.

EARTH DAY 2022

*Responsible Citizens* *Effective Contributors*

To celebrate Earth Day, we had a ‘no technology’ morning and enjoyed story time in a big class den. We then went on a Nature Hunt during our local walk this afternoon. Some of our pupils also took responsibility for recycling at the end of the week. Have a lovely weekend everyone!
