Athletics – Kilmarnock Harriers

Well done to some Gargieston pupils who were selected to compete for the Harriers in the Scottish Athletics Indoor League event last weekend.

Robbie Work (P6A) competed in the 200m, Megan Haggarty and Eilidh Mitchell (both P6B) also took part – Megan in the 600m and 60m sprint, and Eilidh in the long jump and 60m sprint. Finally, Sam Lennox (also 6B) ran in the 60m sprint.

Congratulations to all four of them on their selection – we’re proud of all your achievements!

JRSO Road Safety

JRSO

We believe that road safety is a very important thing in our community. The safety of your child is our number one priority! We have been a bit worried recently about children coming to school when it’s darker.   When they wear a dark jacket cars cannot see them and this is very dangerous.  Here is a picture which very clearly shows this danger.  So we encourage that you give your child a brighter jacket, a torch, a reflector for their bag or jacket.   Be Seen, Be Safe!

On Monday we are going to launch a competition where the children will have the chance to design a colourful high vis vest  if they wish, the closing date will be Friday 28th January.  The winner from each class will win a JRSO goodie bag!

Happy designing!

Message from the Parent Council

I have just been sent details of an online event from our East Ayrshire NPFS rep John, which may be of interest to you.  National Parent Form of Scotland are working in partnership with Education Scotland and Common Sense to run this event on supporting your child or young person to safely set up devices. The event is for all parents/carers in Scotland.

The session is being held on Thursday evening and you can register via the link below:

P7 Registration for Secondary Education

Dear Parent/Carer

As you will know, your child is due to transfer from primary to secondary education at the beginning of the new school session (August 2022).

Please complete the online P7 transfer application at http://eastayrshi.re/p7transfer no later than Wednesday 26 January 2022.

Your secondary school will already be in communication with your child via primary school to provide information and hand books are available at: www.eac.eu/secondaryschoolhandbooks.

We very much hope that visits and events may be possible later in the year to allow you and your child to visit their new school.

A Chilly Start To 2022!

We are always so proud of our pupils who take part in fundraising events in the community – and this is certainly the case with Ellie McLatchie. Previously, Ellie has donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, now she has braved the cold seas along the Ayrshire coast in the Boxing Day Dip to raise money for Ayrshire Cancer Support. She raised a fantastic £350 for the charity. Well done, Ellie!
