Early Finish

The ECC door will be open on Friday 30th June from 1pm – 1.15pm for pick up. We hope you all have a fantastic summer holiday.


ECC graduation 👩‍🎓

ECC Graduation 🧑‍🎓 

Our ECC graduation will take place in the gym hall on Friday 23rd June. This will start at 2pm prompt. All parents and carers must be seated before 2pm. Please note that only the families of children going to school this year have to attend this event.

Transition dates this week

This week we have a busy week! On Monday 12th June the children going to school in August will have a stay and play visit in Base 1 with their parents/carers. Can all parents please gather outside the ECC garden and your child’s P1 teacher will collect you to take you to Base 1. The ECC staff will bring all children along to Base 1 to meet you. This stay and play session is from 2pm – 2.45pm. Children MUST return to the ECC after this visit with ECC staff. Parents to collect from ECC following usual procedure to ensure everyone is signed out. Thank you for your cooperation.

Tuesday 13th June one parent per child is invited to attend a school lunch with their child. You should have received an email with your time slot to arrive for this lunch, if not please speak to Mrs Hendrie. Again can all parents please gather infront of the ECC garden area to be collected by P1 teacher. Children will already be in Base 1 waiting for you. When finished lunch please bring your child to Mrs Hendrie who will be waiting in the parents room for your child as the younger children will be having their lunch in the ECC.

Friday 16th June is our pirate transition party in the courtyard for all children going to school. Can all children please bring in a snack to have at the party please (no nuts)

ECC Sports day

We had a fantastic day today celebrating Sports Day in the ECC. Well done to all of the children for taking part you are all superstars

Sun protection 🌞 

This week has to get very hot. Please ensure that your child has a sun hat with their name clearly displayed and that you apply sun cream to your child before they come to the ECC. ECC staff will reapply suncream after lunch to all children. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

ECC Sports Day

We will be having our ECC sports day on Friday 2nd June at 2pm. Parents and carers are welcome to come and spectate this event which will take place on the flat grass located in the school playground area. Children are encouraged to dress in their group colour.

The ECC will be closed on Friday 26th May and Monday 29th May. Tuesday 30th May in an Inservice day. We look forward to welcoming the children back on Wednesday 31st May. Have a lovely long weekend.

Our ECC trip to Dumfries House 

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our parent helpers who came along to help us at Dumfries House today, we could not of done it without you! The children had a great day exploring the parks and the grounds of Dumfries House.

Holidays

A little reminder that the ECC will be closed on Friday 26th and Monday 29th May. Tuesday 30th May is an inservice day, children should not attend.


Marathon for Cassie and Ava

The ECC children will be participating in our marathon for Cassie and Ava on Thursday 25th May. All children are encouraged to wear sports clothing on this day to take part. We will have a collection bucket in the ECC on this day to raise money for the Ayrshire Hospice and for Ava’s treatment. Thank you in advance for your contribution to these great causes.


ECC trip Dumfries house 

Our ECC trip will take place on Wednesday 24th May. Can all parents please ensure that their child arrives at ECC before 9am. We will be leaving at 9.15am. Remember that no lunches need to be brought as we will provide a lunch for every child. Staff will have suncream, medication etc so all that your child requires is to be dressed for outdoor play all day. We will return before 3pm. Parents who are coming along to help please meet in the parents room at 9am. Parents please bring with you a lunch which is nut free. Thank you.


Final PEEP Session

Our families who have been engaging in our PEEP session, thank you very much for your support with these. Our last session of this block will take place on Monday 22nd May at 9am

The children in the ECC had a great day marking the coronation of the King with a garden party and picnic today.

Sports day

ECC sports day will take place on Friday 2nd June at 2pm. All children are encouraged to dress in their group colour. All parents and families are welcome to come and spectate this event.

The photographer will be taking individual photographs of the children in the ECC on Thursday 4th May.

Friday 5th May

On Friday 5th May we will be marking the coronation of the King with a garden party in the ECC. Children are being encouraged to dress up as royalty on this day or they can come to ECC dressed in red, white or blue. There is no need to provide a snack blanket the ECC will provide this for all of the children.

PEEP reminder

Our second PEEP session will take place on Monday 24th April at the new agreed time of 9am to all families who signed up to be part of this.

Stay and play sessions

A little reminder that we have our stay and play sessions this week for all groups. You have the opportunity to come along to the ECC to stay and play with your child for an hour and a half in the playroom and in our outdoor learning environments. During this session you will have a 10 minute slot to discuss your child’s term three individual learning targets with their keyworker and any concerns in which you may have. Stay and play session as below:

Our Learning 21st April 

This week in the ECC we have been exploring numbers and developing our awareness that the last number of items we count means how many we have (quantity). We have also been creating some lovely pictures of our families to display in our playroom please have a look at these at drop off and pick up time. We are beginning to learn about mini beasts. Our baby caterpillars have arrived they have grown so much in 1 week already.

Welcome back

We hope you all had a fantastic Easter holiday. We are looking forward to starting our last term in the school year, it is going to be a busy one!

Our visit to the local police station

 

Some of the ECC children enjoyed a visit to our local police station where they learned about the role of the police in our local community. They got to explore all areas of the police station on their Easter egg hunt. They were interrogated in the interview room. They were searched with a medal detector and even put in the cells. What a wonderful time they had.

PEEP numeracy sessions 

Just a little reminder that the closing date for the forms to be completed for our families to sign up to join the PEEP sessions on offer to promote the development of numeracy activities at home using everyday items closes on Wednesday 29th March at 10pm. Mrs Hendrie will notify the selected families before the Easter holidays.


Medication

As we are approaching the Easter holidays all children who have medication stored in the ECC are due to have this audited. Can parents/carers of children with medication please come to the parents room between 2.30pm – 3pm on Monday 27th March to audit this medication with Mrs Hendrie please.


Bookbug reminder

Just a little reminder that we are providing a bookbug session for children in the red and silver groups only on Thursday 30th March at 9.15am and 2pm. There are still spaces available. We look forward to welcoming our families along.

Our learning this week – 23rd March 

The children have been developing their understanding of positional language using bee bots this week in the ECC. We will be developing this skill over the next few weeks. We have also been very creative in the art area by painting our own interpretations of a real bunch of roses 🌹


Help required

We are hoping to carry out some planting outdoors in the ECC. We would be very grateful for any donations of plant pots of all shapes and sizes. If you have any spare seeds these would be greatly appreciated.

We are delighted to introduce our new early learning and childcare practitioner to Gargieston ECC. Meet Miss Watt who will be key worker to the silver group children at the beginning of the week. Miss Watt will work alongside Miss Quinn to support our silver group children.

Visit from PC McPike

We would like to say a huge thank you to PC McPike for visiting the ECC this morning with her police van to show the children. They really enjoyed listening to a story about the role of the police and finding out about the equipment the police use.

World book day

The ECC children enjoyed a visit from the P6 children today to read their own invented fairy tale stories and other stories to celebrate World book day.

Our learning 24/2/23

This week the children in the ECC have enjoyed creating a volcano outdoors using paper mache. They then painted their volcano and carried out a science experiment to make it erupt.

The children in the ECC also enjoyed investigating an obstacle course in the gym hall this week to develop their gross motor skills.

Donations

We would be very grateful of any donations of empty kitchen roll tubes, cereal boxes, juice bottles etc for the children to use to create junk model animals next week in the ECC. Thank you

ECC library books

Over the last few weeks we have been sending home library book evaluation sheets with the children on a Monday. We would like to encourage children and their families to be creative and after reading their library book at home. We would like you to:

* draw a picture of your favourite character

* retell your favourite part of the story

* create a new character for the story

* invent a new ending to the story.

We would love it if children and parents could upload their creative and imaginative way to explore their library book at home on their child’s individual learning journal as a parental contribution. These will be shared with their key group at welcome times. Thank you

Mount visit

The silver and green group children had a fantastic morning exploring our local woods this week. Thanks again to Amelia and Taylor’s mums for coming along and helping out on this visit.

World book day 

We are fast approaching one of the most popular days in the school calendar – World Book Day. This will take place on Thursday 2nd March. To make it a special day we are inviting children to dress up as a favourite book character or come to ECC  wearing pyjamas or onesies ready for story time

Learning journals parent workshop

We are having a learning journals parent workshop for ECC, P1 & P2 parents on Thursday at 2.15pm and Friday at 9.15am. Please come along if you require any support accessing or using your child’s learning journal.

Transition to P1

The children from our ECC who will be transitioning to Gargieston Primary school in August 2023 will have a visit to Base 1 once a fortnight over the next 6 weeks to explore all three current P1 classrooms and listen to a story from the teacher alongside the current P1’s. These will take place on Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons.

Pancake Day

Tuesday 21st February is Pancake day. We will be celebrating this in the ECC. Mrs Dante is going to take the ECC children in small groups to bake their own pancakes on a small portable hob. These pancakes will be dairy free.

The silver and green group children will be going a visit to the local woods on Tuesday 21st February. Please ensure your child is dressed for outdoor learning experiences.

They create safe spaces in schools where students can open up without pressure, arming them with emotional skills to help deal with everything life throws at them. Stay and play week beginning 30th January
We are thoroughly looking forward to welcoming our families for stay and play sessions this week in the ECC. You will have the opportunity to explore what learning your child takes part in daily in the ECC. You will also have the opportunity to have a ten minute meeting with your child’s keyworker. If you are unable to attend stay and play session on this occasion please speak to your child’s keyworker or Mrs Hendrie to arrange a suitable time and date for a phone call meeting to be updated on your child’s learning and individual learning targets in the ECC.

Wednesday 25th January – Burns Day
We will be celebrating Burns day on Wednesday 25th January in the ECC with a special Scottish lunch of leek and potato soup, haggis beeps and tatties followed by shortbread. The children are encouraged to dress in tartan on this day. We will be practicing our Scottish poem on this day – mince and tatties.

Our learning week beginning 16th January

Following our successful Stay and Play sessions at Gargieston ECC last term, we would like to invite you to join us for a further session to provide you with the opportunity to spend time with your child in the playroom and find out more about the learning experiences on offer to them. 

Please refer to the table below for information about when the designated slot will be for one adult to attend Stay and Play. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate siblings in this experience. During this Stay and Play session, you will have the opportunity to have a ten minute discussion with your child’s keyworker to discuss their Term 2 individual learning targets and any concerns which you may have.

Flu Vaccinations
Did you miss or were unable to attend for your child’s flu vaccine (usually a painless nasal spray)? For pre-school children ONLY, aged 2-5 years (must be 2 on 01/09/22) there will be 2 final opportunities to attend. This is also open to any children deferred from school.

Welcome back 

We hope that you all had a fantastic Christmas. Happy new year to all of our Gargieston families. The ECC reopens on Monday 9th January. We will be following week 1 lunch menu this week. We can’t wait to welcome all of our children back to the ECC and welcome some new faces too. See you soon.

ECC medicine

Can all parents of children who store medicine in the ECC medicine cupboard please come to the ECC parents room at 2.30pm on Tuesday 20th December to audit their child’s medicine with Mrs Hendrie. Thank you

ECC Christmas Party 🎅🏻 

The ECC will be having their Christmas party on Tuesday 20th December. Please bring your child to ECC wearing their party clothes. We will not be going outdoors on this day. Our special visitor will be coming in the afternoon and ECC staff will ensure that all children have their photograph taken with Santa.

Nativity Friday 16th December

Our ECC nativity is fast approaching and we are so excited for the children to show off to all of their loved ones how hard they have been working on this years performance.
Can we please ask that all ante pre school children bring in a Christmas jumper to wear on this day as they are part of our choir. If you would like to add tinsel, bobbles, hats, accessories to complete your little ones festive look this would be very much encouraged. Doors will open at 1.45pm. All audience members will enter via the main entrance to the school building where Mrs Hendrie will collect your tickets. There will be no extra tickets available on the day all children were allocated 2 tickets per family only. There will be a box for donations for the local food bank and collection buckets for the Ayrshire Cancer charity. ECC staff have taken individual photographs of children in costumes these will be uploaded onto learning journals on Friday.

Our learning 9/12/2022

The ECC children have been beginning to get festive this week. We have put up our ECC Christmas tree, our cheeky little elf Chippy has arrived and has been up to some very naughty behaviour. We have been creating snowmen in the art area. We have been writing our letters to Santa. We have also been developing our counting skills using numbered Christmas trees.

The ECC children enjoyed their special Christmas lunch of Roast Turkey or Steak pie on Thursday. Thank you very much to the catering team for providing us with this special treat.


Christmas jumper Day

Thank you to everyone who supported our Christmas jumper day in the ECC. We raised lots of money for Ayrshire Cancer Support.


Thursday 8th December 

Just a little reminder that it is Christmas jumper day in the ECC on Thursday 8th December. All ECC children and staff are encouraged to wear their Christmas jumpers on this day. We will also be having our ECC Christmas lunch on this day with a choice of a roast Turkey dinner or steak pie and mashed potatoes.

Bookbug 

A huge thank you to all of our families who have attended bookbug sessions over the last few weeks in the ECC. We are delighted with how well these sessions were attended. We hope you enjoyed this experience. We plan to provide more bookbug sessions next term.

Christmas Fayre


It is Gargieston Primary and ECC Christmas fayre on Thursday 8th December between 3.30pm and 6.30pm. We will be selling snowman soup, reindeer dust, a grotto, bottle stall, home baking, book stall, face painting and lots more! Please come along to support us and help to raise money for our school and ECC! We look forward to seeing you there.

Bookbug sessions

We are providing a bookbug session on Tuesday 6th December at 9.05am and 2pm for all blue and orange group families only. Our numbers are high for the morning session but there is still plenty availability for the afternoon session. We would be delighted to see lots of our blue and orange group families at these sessions.

Childhood Flu Vaccinations

Parent/carer of children aged 2 – 5 years (must be 2 on 01/09/22)

Did you miss or were unable to attend your child’s flu vaccination (nasal spray)? There will be a drop-in session at The Galleon Centre, Titchfield St, Kilmarnock on Saturday 3rd December from 9am-2pm. Please attend if you can.


ECC Nativity tickets

The ECC will perform our nativity of Baarmey Bethlehem on Friday 16th December at 2pm. All ECC families will be issued with 2 tickets only per family for this performance. These will be sent home with the children on Monday 28th November. The children have been rehearsing very well and are working hard on learning their songs and words.

Local park visit 1st December

Our last visit to the local park of this block will take place on Thursday 1st December with the purple group children. Please ensure that children are dressed appropriately for the weather. Thank you

Bookbug

The ECC are running a bookbug session on Tuesday 29th November for the red, green and yellow group children only. We have had to move the morning session to start at 9.05am. The afternoon session will start at 2pm. We look forward to welcoming our children and families there.

Park date change

Due to the school teacher strikes on Thursday 24th November we have decided to change the date of our green and yellow groups visit to the local park to Wednesday this week instead of Thursday. Please ensure your child is appropriately dressed to access outdoor learning experiences at the park on a Wednesday.

Staffing

We would like to thank Hannah from the TAP team who has been working with the ECC staff at Gargieston ECC over the last couple of months. We are sad to be saying goodbye to Miss Johnston who will finish with us at Gargieston ECC on Monday 21st November she will be very sadly missed. We are pleased to share with you that Miss Ferguson has returned to the ECC to support the children in all of the groups at the end of the week.

Park visit 17/11/2022

The silver and orange groups had a fantastic morning at the local park today. We made a den, developed our gross motor skills on the equipment and had a camp fire with hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows.

New display

Thank you very much for your feedback on our recent stay and play sessions in the ECC. A display has been created in our cloakroom to show the feedback we received from this.

Flu vaccine

Members of the NHS will be in the parents room on Tuesday 15th November to administer the flu vaccine to ECC children. All parents / carers should have received a letter with a time slot for their child to receive the flu vaccine on this day. Please remember that ECC staff are not able to take your child for their flu vaccine. Children must be accompanied by a parent / carer. Thank you

Helpers required

Monday 14th November 

On Monday 14th November we will be having an odd socks day in the ECC to celebrate anti bullying day. Please encourage your child to wear odd socks on this day.

New arrival 

Meet The beautiful Shay who arrived on Sunday 6th November. Both Shay and Miss Law are doing very well.

New displays

We have developed our displays in our numeracy area in the ECC to promote a more natural look to encourage the children to explore numbers and counting during their play experiences.

Our learning week beginning 31st October 

The children in the ECC have been creating a variety of firework pictures and images in the ECC this week to enhance their awareness of fire safety. We have also transformed our role play area into a vet. If anyone has any resources which we could use to develop our vet area we would be very grateful for these items. Thank you for your continued support.

Bookbug sessions in the ECC

We are offering another opportunity for all of our ECC families to come to the ECC to take part in a bookbug session with their child. Dates as follows:

Tuesday 22nd November – silver and purple groups only

Tuesday 29th November – Red, yellow and green groups only

Tuesday 6th December – orange and blue groups only

Stay and play

Thank you very much to all of our families who attended stay and play sessions this week it was so lovely to welcome families back into the ECC to share the children’s learning with them. The feedback we got from these sessions was very positive.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Bicker who very kindly came into the ECC and put together our new music area for the children to explore outdoors in the garden. We are very grateful, thank you. We are sure that the children will have a lot of fun with this.

Temporary change to orange group 

We will be joined by Mrs McAllister to help support our Orange group in the ECC for the next two weeks.

ECC local park visits

We have planned for all of the ECC children to attend a visit to the local park where they can play on the equipment, explore stories and hopefully have a campfire (weather depending) We will be using the children’s EV5 forms for these visits. Please ensure that your child has a puddlesuit and wellies for their visit. We are hoping to leave to walk to the park at 9.30am and return for 11.30am.

10th November – Blue and red groups

17th November – Orange and silver groups

24th November – Green and yellow groups

1st December – Purple group


ECC Halloween party

The ECC will be having a Halloween day on Friday 28th October. Children are encouraged to come to the ECC on this day in their Halloween costumes, please be mindful of children being able to access the toilet independently in their costumes. No swords, etc please. We will have Halloween crafts and spooky snack in the morning followed by a Halloween party in the afternoon.

Lost jacket

A jacket the same as this one has gone missing. It has a child’s name clearly displayed on the label inside. If you recognise this jacket could you please check that you have the correct one at home please. We have this one in the ECC to be replaced with the returned jacket. Thank you


Helper required

We are making progress with our music area outdoors in the garden. We are looking for a volunteer parent to help us to drill holes in this reel in the photograph above and drill holes in the tins we have collected to help create this musical station. Please let Mrs Hendrie know if you are able to come into the ECC and help us with this. Thank you.

Donations

We are really struggling for spare socks in the ECC, if anyone is having a clear out over the October holidays we would be very grateful for any unwanted socks that your child has now outgrown to keep for spares in the nursery. Thank you for your ongoing support.

October holidays

The ECC will close at 3pm on Friday 14th October for the October holidays. The children return to ECC on Tuesday 25th October at 8.45am. Have a lovely holiday week.

Individual learning targets

The staff in the ECC have been working on all children’s individual learning targets. These will be published on Monday 10th October at 4pm. Please access these targets. We strongly encourage parental involvement at home to help with the achievement of childrens learning and developing these new skills. We strongly encourage parents to comment and share photographs on their child’s learning journal to share with us how you are working collaboratively with the ECC to help your child achieve these targets. Parents / carers will be invited along to the ECC for a stay and play session after the October holidays where they will have the opportunity to see what learning children have access to on a daily basis. You will also have the opportunity to meet with your child’s key worker to discuss their individual learning targets for this term. Dates to follow after the holidays.

Car parking

A gentle reminder that disabled bays in the car park are for blue badge holders only! All other cars should be parked in the main parent car park and not in the staff car park. Thank you

Reminder Christmas cards orders: 

All orders for Christmas cards should be returned to the ECC on or before Thursday 13th October so they can be collected and processed on Friday 14th October. Orders after this date cannot be accepted. Thank you

Our learning 30/9/2022

We have been investigating a variety of patterns in our creative area of the playroom this week. We have been developing our knowledge of ring games in large groups outdoors and learning how to take turns and follow instructions to take part in simple ring games with our peers.


Outdoor learning

Our ECC children love to investigate outdoors in all weather conditions. Please ensure your child has suitable clothing daily to access outdoor learning. Some photographs of us today making dens in the rain and going on our boat adventure to somewhere sunny.

Christmas cards

Children are currently designing their cards at nursery and they should be home with you by the end of the week.

Please return orders to the ECC as soon as possible as these will be collected before the October break. Please hand these to Mrs Hendrie on arrival to the ECC.

Payments for orders must be paid for when you return the order. We would appreciate payments by personal cheque – made payable to Gargieston Primary School.

We are able to accept cash as an alternative but cheques are the preferred payment method.

Please double check that the order form amount matches what is paid for as discrepancies are difficult to rectify and may delay your order.

Please send your card and cheque in a secure envelope or poly pocket with your child’s name clearly written on the envelope.

Reminder – our book bug session for red and yellow group children and their families will be going ahead on Monday 26th September at 9.15am – this session is now full thank you for completing the form to attend this session we can’t wait to see you all. Our new digger area outdoors

We would like to say a huge thank you to Paul at Blackwood Plant Hire for his very kind donation of sand for our children to explore and investigate outdoors in our new digger area. The children are thoroughly enjoying this new challenging to develop their motor skills in a fun way.

Our learning this week 

The children have been exploring a variety of ways to create and investigate pattern in our creative area of the ECC this week. We plan to extend this learning into next week so look out for some messy activities going on!

Donations required

We are going to create something similar to this in the ECC to develop our outdoor music area for the children. If you have any tins that you could donate for this it would be very much appreciated. We are looking for a selection of both full and empty tins in order to produce different sounds. We are also looking for old unwanted cd’s or dvd’s that we can use to create a mirrored wall outdoors. These can be given to Mrs Hendrie at drop off time. Thank you very much for your ongoing support

A reminder that our settling in phone calls will take place as follows. If you are scheduled for a morning call please expect a call between 9.30am and 11.30am. If you are scheduled for an afternoon call please expect a call between 1pm and 3pm. If you cannot accommodate a phone call on your designated date and time please speak to Mrs Hendrie and we will try our best to facilitate a phone call at another time.

Bookbug on 12th Sep

We have made the decision to postpone Mondays bookbug sessions for the green, orange and purple group children as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll. A new forms will be sent out for parents to complete once we have a new date for this. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Star of the week

Well done to all of our stars of the week this week for super sitting in the ECC.

Our Learning 

The ECC children have enjoyed visiting the gym hall this week to explore an obstacle course to develop their gross motor skills.

The children have loved creating their own obstacle courses outdoors using a variety of loose parts.

We have been using grapes and wooden skewers to create and build our own models. We have created bridges, cars, princess towers. It has been so much fun!


Wow wall

In the ECC we like to celebrate the children’s achievements out with the nursery. If you child for examples receives a certificate for swimming, medal for gymnastics, trophy for football, learns to pedal their bike all by themselves we would love to hear about this and display their achievement on our Wow wall. Please bring in their achievements and Mrs Dempster will take a photograph for our display.

Our new displays this week 2.9.2022

The children have been working very hard this week in the ECC. We have been creating number paintings, creating book reviews of our favourite stories and using our handprints to create a colourful flower in our art area.


Meet Miss McGowan

 

 

 

 

 

 

We are delighted to introduce Miss McGowan who will be working with us at Gargieston ECC for the next little while to cover staff absences. She will be working with all of the children and will be the key worker for the Yellow group alongside Mrs Nardini while she is with us.

Donations required

We are working hard in the ECC to revamp some of our learning areas. We would be very grateful for any donations of old unwanted items such as: pots and pans, kitchen utensils, baking trays, scales, everyday items of adult clothing for dressing up such as hats, beads, shoes, handbags etc. We are also looking for unwanted real tools, screws, nails. Wooden imaginative small world toys would be fantastic.
These can be given to Mrs Hendrie. Thank you so much for your ongoing support.


new wall displays 

The children have been working hard this week to create a “This is me” wall display. We also had a discussion about our ECC rules to keep us all safe in the nursery and we displayed this using mr potato heads.

Reminder

Can I ask parents and family members when collecting your child from the ECC to please ensure that your child does not run out into the reception area when leaving the ECC. Visitors can be sitting here and meetings taking place in the offices located beside the ECC door. Can we please be respectful and walk out of the ECC. Can I also ask that only adults use the buttons to open the doors to vacate the building as we do not encourage the children to use these for safety reasons.
