New Sound System
Here you can also see photographs of our new sound system which was installed over the October holidays. This will very much improve the quality of sound at future assemblies, plays and productions at Gargieston Primary and ECC. A HUGE thank you to all parents and carers who have bought school photographs and who have attended school functions, such as the Christmas Fayre and, by doing so, have contributed towards our school funds which have allowed us to make such a BIG purchase which will benefit the whole school and ECC. We look forward to all our parents hearing our fabulous sound system. Thank you to everyone for your contribution.
ASSEMBLY 27/10/17
The theme of today’s assembly was KINDNESS. This relates to all our work in school last term recapping our school values of Happiness, Respect, Motivation and Friendship. Last term we also recapped the meaning of SHANARRI which reminds us that every child in our school should feel Safe, Healthy, Active, Nurtured, Achieving, Responsible, Respected and Included. Thinking about KINDNESS to one another both inside and outside school is part of the work we are doing towards our Rights Respecting School status and our understanding of the Articles of the UNCRC – The United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child. The Articles of the UNCRC which most relate to showing KINDNESS to each other are:- Articles 12, 14, 22, 24 ,28, 29, 30.
At the bottom of this post is a list of the Articles and a copy of the Powerpoint which was shown at assembly today. Can you please look at these at home, think about these Articles and discuss them and the questions in the Powerpoint at home with your family?

The Outdoor Group
The Outdoor Group have come up with some lovely ideas to make the outdoor area more interesting for wildlife and for growing more vegetables. The first idea we are taking forward is giving the Bug Hotel a makeover as it is needing to be re-energised and made more welcoming for passing insects. The group have researched what materials will be needed to encourage biodiversity within the hotel and are collecting these materials from woodland walks and from home. Here are some of the ideas the group have come up with for the school grounds and plans for the Bug Hotel.
I like this ART work because it took a long time to do it. The best part was painting the ART work and doing it.
Thank You from the Rights Respecting Schools Group
The Rights Respecting Schools Group would like to thank everyone very, very much for their kind donations of food which were brought to school for our Harvest assembly on the 13th October. David from the East Ayrshire Foodbank came along to give a talk to the assembly about the work of the Foodbank and the number of struggling families they help every week. After taking all the foodstuffs away, he phoned back to say that we had collected over 200kgs of food which will help provide food for at least 26 people for 3 days. We are delighted to further our work towards our Rights Respecting Schools Level 1 status and also helping our local community. Thank you everyone!
