★ ECC Star of the Week ★

Well done to this weeks Star of the Week winners for putting their hand up and waiting their turn to speak. 😀

Green and Red Group

Here at the ECC we go through lots of liquid soap, tissues and kitchen roll each week. We would be very grateful if each child from the Green and Red group could kindly donate any of these items to help keep us going. The reason we are asking two groups per term is to stop our cupboards becoming overcrowded with these items.  Thank you

Communication tip of the month

sept 2018 – face to face

This months top tip is getting face to face with your child this allows your child to observe speech, give eye contact and feel actively listened to which in turn will promote further interactions.

ECC Communication Board

Our Nursery Rhyme of the week is Humpty Dumpty.

You will see the Rhyme and Makaton up on the communication board in the ECC cloakroom and in the links below.

Please sing and try out the signs at home. Singing rhymes with your child regularly increases their knowledge of phonological awareness and aids your child’s ability to read and spell later at School.

Our Communication Champion here at Gargieston  is Miss Clark she will be tracking the children’s knowledge of each nursery rhyme and will share this data with you in the very near future.

If you have any concerns in regards to your child’s speech and language development please speak to a member of staff or contact the Speech and Language Therapy department hotline number this is displayed on our communication board.

★ ECC Star of the Week ★

In the nursery we follow a Good to be Green system using green, yellow and red cards to promote positive behaviour within the setting. Every week we focus on one of our Nursery Golden Rules and a picture of this rule will be put on the Good to be Green board as a reminder.

On Friday we have Star of the Week where a child from each group receives a certificate as recognition for following the Golden rule of the week. This week we were focusing on having super ‘Walking feet’ in the nursery. Well done to all the winners this week!

This information is updated on a weekly basis and also uploaded to the blog.

We offer communication tip of the month which is pictured above (pausing in conversations)

Please feel free to take any leaflets in the button wallet from the board as these are replenished regularly.

Should you have any speech or language concerns please feel free to speak to your child’s keyworker, our communication champion or call the Speech and Language Therapy hotline which is pictured above. The speech and language therapy department also have a facebook and twitter page which has some useful information and tips posted regularly.

Communication Board – new top tip!

This months top top is supporting speech sounds. When your child pronounces a sound incorrectly just repeat back what they have said in it’s true form without correcting them. This allows the child to hear language in its correct form without knocking their confidence and self esteem.  For example if a child was to say “it’s a at” instead of cat just repeat “yes it’s a cat”
