Our children in the ECC and Primary 1 are going to be becoming very familiar with this bright and colourful character over the next few weeks.  If we are very good, he may even come to visit us with Nan and Betty McCoo too.

The staff have been working hard to prepare some fantastic and creative learning experiences for the children with a focus on literacy but also covering a wide range of other curricular areas.  We are looking forward to welcoming Shirley Husband, the author of the McCoo books, to introduce our topic to the children on Tuesday morning.

Tea with Mrs McKee

The children really enjoyed sharing their learning experiences with me and each other with a drink of juice and a biscuit this morning 😊

Tesco Bags of Help Initiative

We are excited to announce that The Parent Council of Gargieston Primary School & ECC have been selected to participate in Tesco’s Bags of Help Fundraising Initiative!

VOTING IS NOW OPEN IN BOTH KILMARNOCK STORES!!

This is such an exciting opportunity for our fantastic school to secure funding from Tesco which will allow us to purchase a fitness trail for our playground with monkey bars, tyre swings and lots more.  There are three very deserving projects in the running:- Gargieston PS & ECC, Kilmarnock Acrobatics Club and Bonnyton Thistle Football Club.  All three projects will receive a cash boost, with the winning project receiving £4000, 2nd place £2000 and 3rd place £1000.  We would like to encourage as much support as possible amongst family and friends of the school and ask that whenever you shop in Tesco you post your blue coin into our slot.  You do not need to purchase a plastic bag to pick up a token – just ask for one whenever you shop.

We are going to need everyone to get behind our school as we’re sure it will be very competitive and the more money we are awarded, the better our fitness trail will be for our children!  Voting in stores takes place from 1st January – 28th February 2019.

We will provide an update at the next parent council meeting, but so far can advise that the contract for the project has been awarded to Scot Play. The design will be finalised over the next few weeks with the plan for fitting of the Trim Trail to take place around Easter 2019.

Many thanks in anticipation of your support!

Christmas Sing-a-long Superstars

Congratulations to our final Superstars of 2018 who were awarded their certificates at our Christmas sing-a-long this morning – well done everyone!

We had no shortage of vocal superstars this morning who were more than happy to take the microphone and entertain us during our sing-a-long.  Gargie’s own special version of ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’ was a particular highlight although the P1’s and I were absolutely exhausted by the end of the song!!

Merry Christmas to you all and I look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday 7th January 🙂

Thank you to everyone who supported our Christmas charity this year.

Your contributions raised a total of £297.46 which will be donated to

Cash for Kids.

Nativity Performances

Thank you so much to everyone who attended the nativity performances this week to support our children.  I think everyone will agree that the children from our ECC and Primaries 1 and 2 were absolutely fantastic in their productions of ‘The Sleepy Shepherd’ and ‘A Miracle in Town’.  These young children are our future at Gargieston and what a bright future it is!  We are all incredibly proud of them.

Many thanks to the staff teams who have worked so hard with our children to bring these productions to life within the limitations of our school hall.

And finally, grateful thanks to everyone for their donations to the East Ayrshire Foodbank when they attended the performances.  Once again we have been overwhelmed by your generosity.

Congratulations to Mrs Lawson who was successful at interview yesterday for the post of Acting Depute Head Teacher here at Gargieston PS & ECC.

We are delighted that Mrs Lawson will be joining the Senior Leadership Team within our school and know that she is looking forward to working with families throughout the school to achieve the best possible outcomes for our children.

Speech and Language Therapy in East Ayrshire

Take a look at the Facebook page for Speech and Language Therapy in East Ayrshire which shares lots of helpful information about how you can support your childs communication.

Ajay Chima, one of our P1 pupils, also stars in their latest short video “Communication for Life” 🙂

Year Of Young People Awards

Good luck to Orla McAllister, Emma Simpson and Mrs McLaughland who are attending the Year Of Young People awards ceremony at Dumfries House tonight.

Orla and Emma were nominated by the school in the category of ‘enterprise champions’ for their project collecting donations for C.A.S.E.
