Rights Respecting Schools. Battery Collection and Soft Plastic Recycling

At Monday’s assembly we were able to unfurl our Gold Rights Respecting Schools Banner for the first time and show off our Gold Award certificate. The banner will soon take pride of place on the fence at the school car park drop off area.                                                            Two weeks ago we launched our Property Pledge in conjunction with East Ayrshire Council. The pledge aims to promote a sense of pride and co-ownership in our school building and encourage us to highlight any aspects that require attention.  In turn East Ayrshire Council pledge to maintain our building to a good standard. Part of our Pledge is to reduce waste. One way we want to do this is to promote and carry out more recycling in our school. We recently signed up to the Big Battery Hunt and began a used battery collection of AAA, AA, C and D batteries. (no other sizes please!!)  Each class has a battery collection box. Isla and Adam from P2A are holding their class box.  They have a second one as the first one of them is full already!! In just 2 weeks, our school has collected 1030 batteries so far!! The final scores for the Big Battery Hunt will be tallied on the 10th June and prizes will be awarded to winning schools so get collecting!!                                                           As you can see from the photo of Katie from P5B, we are also collecting soft plastic for recycling. Items such as crisp packets, plastic sweet wrappers, fruit bags, freezer bags and cling film which might be in packed lunch boxes can be recycled in the big black bins.                                                                                                              Please help us in our quest to be champion recyclers!!
