Last week, for P4-7, there was a Rights Respecting Schools raffle. This was a great opportunity to revisit and revise all the Articles of the UNCRC that we have looked at since last March when we returned to school from lockdown. Everyone took up to a maximum of 3 pieces of paper and wrote their name, the number of an Article of the UNCRC they could remember and a description of what that article was about. In each class, these papers were put into a tub and, on Friday afternoon, winners from each class were drawn from all the entries. The winners were:- P4A – Rose Slater, Rachel Gray P4B – Poppy Jupp, Isla Clarke (photo above) P4C – Amy Elder, Grace Boyce P5A – Finlay McPhail, Bobby Cowan P5B – Callie Parker, Lauren Rankin P6A – Emma Wright, Luke Roxburgh P6B – Ellie McLatchie, Anaya Rana, Pip Newlands P7A – Elliot Ferrie, Harvey Dow, Nina Bednarek P7B – Phoebe Dunlop, Lucy Cowley
The winners received prizes of stationery. As part of their prize, most of the winners received a sharpener in the shape of a globe of the world. This is to remind us all that we are all Global Citizens and that the Rights contained in the UNCRC are for all children in the world. It is also a reminder of how lucky we are since, in some poorer countries of the world, it can be difficult for children to have all their Rights.
Here you can also see 3 of our Pledge Trees with Articles we have looked at all around. There are 4 Pledge trees in the school corridor, one for each House – red, blue, green and yellow. Each year group within the school put their thumbprint on the trees in a different shade of their House colour. All teaching and non-teaching staff have added their thumbprint too to show that we have ALL signed up to the Rights within the UNCRC – the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. A huge thank you to Mrs. Wallace, our of our parents, who sketched out the shape of the trees for us. The UNCRC is posted below which you can discuss with your parents at home.
