Christmas Cards!

You may remember from last session, we shared the fabulous news that Abbie Russell, now P4, won a national competition to design a Christmas Card for sale in Shelter Scotland shops. We are delighted to announce that these are now for sale in all their branches (including Prestwick and Ayr) at the price of  £2.49 for a pack of 10. It will be lovely to think of these being shared by our families while supporting an extremely worthwhile cause.

Huge congratulations once again to Abbie – we are so proud of you and here’s a reminder of the winning card.

So proud!

We have been so proud of Mark Wilson in P6A this week and wanted to share something he has done.

Mark, his sister Rachel and two friends raised money for the World Wildlife Fund, sending away an amazing £81 for this wonderful charity. This certainly shows one of our school values – kindness.

Mark, we are so proud of you and you thoroughly deserve the gold card to go towards the Yellow House points!

September Weekend Holiday

We will be closed on Friday 17th and Monday 20th September

House and Vice Captains

Last week the pupils were busy voting for their House and Vice Captains. It was a close call in the end with every single person getting loads of votes! Well done again to everyone who put themselves forward!

Please head over to the House Captains page to see our new P7 House and Vice Captains. They are all excited to get involved in decision-making and event-planning this year.

Rights Respecting Schools

At Gargieston Primary, we are on a journey to become a Rights Respecting School. This Award is given to schools by UNICEF, the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights. In 1989, governments worldwide promised children the same Rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Scotland is the first devolved nation to make children’s Rights law. This will come  into law in November ’21. A copy of the UNCRC is attached for below for you to read.                                                  Three years ago at Gargieston, we achieved our Silver Award however, due to school closures and disruption over the last 18 months, our work had been put on hold. Now, this session, our plan is to move forward towards achieving our Gold Award, through continuing to embed children’s Rights across the whole school community.  Over the last couple of weeks every class has created their own Class Charter putting children’s rights at the heart of learning. Photos of some class charters will follow soon.                                                                                                                                                                                   We have been revisiting some of the Rights in assemblies. So far we have looked at Articles 1,2,3,6,12,14,24,28,29 and 31. Please read over and discuss some of these Rights with your child. In that way you will be supporting us and helping us to move towards our Gold Rights Respecting Schools Award. Thank you.

Girls Football Programme

The Scottish FA, in partnership with UEFA, are launching a new and innovative Girls Football programme.

What is Playmakers?
Playmakers is a new programme we’re running with UEFA and Disney. It’s a programme for girls aged 5-8 years who are not currently playing football.  It invites them to step into the magical world of Disney as they take the first step on their football journey. These sessions create an environment where imaginations can run wild as an iconic Disney story is told through movement and play.

What do the sessions involve?
The first block of sessions will focus on the Disney film, Incredibles 2.  The programme will be broken down into 10 sessions, where girls will play out epic scenes and take on the roles of some of the best-loved characters of all time; empowering them to be healthy and strong, make friends, build confidence and learn new skills for football and life.
