Sunny Sports for Rockfield!

RPS Sunny Sport Day 1 June 2106Rockfield Primary held a very successful sports day, at Mossfield Stadium, for the whole school. The day consisted of both competitive races and clan activities. The day was started by Oban High School Pipe Band providing wonderful music for us to march around the pitch to, big thanks to all involved! The pupils marched in clans and then had a fabulous warm up which was provided by David MacArthur and senior pupils from Oban High School.

Primary 2/3 iPad puppet shows

Kilcreggan p2-3 puppets b I June 2016P2/3 had a fabulous afternoon videoing their puppet shows this week and then watching all of the masterpieces. The show was the culmination of weeks of work; creating a character and a storyboard. Making the puppet and scenery then writing the play. They rehearsed their plays using the ‘Puppet Pals’ app on the school’s new iPad after which they were ready to use their puppets and be videoed. Well done P2/3 for all your hard work. What Successful Learners you have been this week Mrs McGuire.

Heartstart at Strachur

Heartstart at Strachur 1Angela from the British Heart foundation was in our school today to train our Primary 7s in the Heartstart Emergency Life Support Programme. They learned how to perform CPR and other emergency life saving skills. Mrs Wilson was Angela’s assistant for demonstrating the recovery position, thank you Mrs Wilson!

Miniature Creations at Strone Primary School

Strone Blairmore 1Strone Primary School pupils were delighted to work alongside Blairmore Village Trust to create 30 miniature gardens of wild flowers. The children worked really hard, asked many questions, and took great pleasure in planting up the miniature gardens. The wild flower seeds were supplied by “Your Scotland”; Morrison’s supplied us with their surplus polystyrene fish boxes which we recycled for planting; BVT supplied the compost and the children did the rest.

Rothesay Primary School Eco Day

RPS Eco Day May 2016Rothesay Primary School held their first ever Eco day on Monday 9th May. It was a huge success. The Eco committee worked with teachers to organise lots of different activities and all 255 pupils took part. Some of the favourite things were making (and eating) fruit kebabs, making bird feeders, parachute games, Eco art, making Earth mobiles, and singing Eco songs. ‘World of Work’ Week at Dalintober PS and ELCC

Dalintober World of Work Week  SpringbankPupils at Dalintober & ELCC embarked on a journey of discovery through the world of work.
The week involved a range of visits to places of work in the local area and the school also welcomed a wide variety of visitors through its doors to work with classes.
ELCC had a visit from our School Crossing Patroller and the children loved taking turns to hold the lollipop.

Busy Time at Southend Primary School!

Southend Busy Time 1251 2Pupils at Southend Primary School have been very busy learning about the processes involved from farm and sea to fork.
We have been looking at different food groups, ‘The Eatwell Plate’ and the importance of a balanced diet. Members of the local community have visited to enrich our learning in this area. Jen Campbell discussed fishing; how the fish is caught, different species of fish found in our local area and some information about the work carried out by her husband and son, who are fishermen. We saw live crabs which they had caught and tasted crab pate.

Technologies Showcase at Innellan Primary

Innellan Tech Showcase 2Pupils from Toward, Innellan, St Muns and Dunoon, supported by Gary Clark and Steven Simpson have been learning how to write computer code. Dunoon has been using Lego WeDo and the other schools have been using Kudo. The progress and improvements in the pupils independent working and problem solving has been fantastic and the pupils over a period of a few weeks have managed to develop a wide range of simple to complex games.

Science fun resonating round Achaleven!

Gravity-defying structures, precious egg-bundles and musical mayhem were the order of the day on Tuesday when Kilchrenan and Barcaldine Primaries joined Achaleven for a celebration of science and technology as part of British Science Week.

Teamwork was required to figure out how to protect their prized eggs from damage whilst being dropped from great heights, whilst some amazing feats of architecture were created from spaghetti and marshmallows!

Colgrain Primary School early and first level Technology Day

Colgrain Technology Day 1On Friday 11th March, Colgrain Primary School had their early and first level Technology Day. The event saw the introduction of our fantastic new iPads, which have been purchased through funding bids and fundraising. To coincide with World Book Day, children dressed up as their favourite book character and used iPad apps to investigate books and stories. Pupils worked collaboratively within mixed stage groups, to create fun posters, comic strips, animation movies and books.

Luss WRI Visit

Luss WRI Visit 1 Rhys - WRIMrs Thomson and Mrs Buchanan from Luss WRI visited the school recently to judge the children’s creations for their WRI competition. Each year the children make something for the ladies to judge and the winners are presented with a trophy. This year Rhys from P5 won the P4-7 category with his flower press and Lucy from P3 won the P1-3 category with her basket.

Mid-Argyll pupil council ‘Reading is Fun’ event

Furnace and Minard  Reading is fun 1 Pupil councilThe children in the Mid-Argyll pupil council have been working together over the last few months to organise a ‘Reading is Fun’ event.
They ran two competitions, one for children in 1st level and one for 2nd Level to come up with a book character to encourage reading in these age groups.
