Success for Tayvallich Primary School!

Tayvallich Primary won the Mid Argyll Inter-schools Quiz Final last week at Kilmory Council Chambers.
The final was against the Kilmartin/Achahoish Primary Schools Team and both teams battled for the shield bravely.
Thank you to Mrs Dickie from Lochgilphead Primary for organising the event which involved all Mid Argyll Schools.

Mid-Argyll pupil council ‘Reading is Fun’ event

Furnace and Minard  Reading is fun 1 Pupil councilThe children in the Mid-Argyll pupil council have been working together over the last few months to organise a ‘Reading is Fun’ event.
They ran two competitions, one for children in 1st level and one for 2nd Level to come up with a book character to encourage reading in these age groups.

Tayvallich win the Mid-Argyll inter-school quiz

Tayvallich win Mid Argyll inter schools quizOn Tuesday the 12th of May Tayvallich and Ardrishaig competed in the final of the resurrected Mid-Argyll inter-school quiz. After a hard fought final Tayvallich emerged the winner. It was a very exciting final and the teams were only a point apart before the final round. Congratulations and well done to both teams for their hard work. The final was held in Kilmory Chambers and vice-provost, Dougie Philand, presented the shield to the winners and the salver to the runners-up.

News from Lochgilphead Joint Campus

P7 Induction Days
The P7s from all our Primaries were in High School for 4 days, gettiing to know new friends and experiencing different High School subjects. The theme this year was ‘The Commonwealth’ – pupils started work on this in Primaries. S6 Mentors were a great help throughout the week. Well done all P7s and hope you are looking forward to August!

Pre Five Mini Olympics

Active Schools Co-ordinator Jillian Gibson and Lorna Cameron, Early Years & Family Support Worker for MAKI, worked together to provide a recent Mini, Mini Olympics project for all pre five children in the Mid Argyll area.  Thanks to funding from the local Public Health Network, each pre five unit was offered three free swimming lessons for their four year old children.  The lessons were delivered by staff at Mid Argyll Community Pool and were kindly supported by many parents who came along to help.  Continuing on from swimming, it was also possible to offer each unit two PE sessions delivered by the local primary PE teachers and Catriona Gunn from Mid Argyll Sports Centre. Mid Argyll Children Celebrate World Sports Day

A huge gathering of 400 children came together on Monday 25th June at Lochgilphead Joint Campus to celebrate World Sports Day.  Aged between 5 and 12 years, the children took part in a raft of sports, all skilfully organised by Jillian Gibson, Mid Argyll’s awesome Active Schools Coordinator.  The children, ably assisted by sports instructors, teachers, S4-6 students, classroom assistants and parent helpers, took part in shinty, rugby, football, handball, hockey, games and the annual inter-school relay races.
