Pupils at Strone and Kilmodan Primary Schools have been enjoying a week long curriculum programme to celebrate Scottish heritage.
On Monday 28th November Kilmodan pupils joined Strone pupils for the day.
In the morning the children participated in a number of activities learning traditional Scottish songs, poetry and art.

On the evening of Wednesday 30th November 2016 the pupils at Furnace Primary School took on the “grown-ups” in the first ever ” Pupils v Grown-Ups Furnace Community Quiz” organised by Mike Masters of Furnace Community Council and Furnace Primary Head Teacher Robyn McIlroy.
On Saturday 3rd December 2016, Rockfield pupils, staff and PTA held their annual Holly tea. This event was very well attended and we would like to thank everyone who was involved in making this such a wonderful and successful event!
The Hostel Factor 2016 was held on 29th November, to a packed audience of parents and staff. The show started with Junior Presenter, Cameron, a terrific witty and explosive introduction to the show and St Andrews Night. Our own Ant & Dec presenters, Brandon & Josh super smart double act put the judges and acts through their paces with their witty and entertaining presenting skills.
Pupils from the primary and pre-5 made various items to be sold at the Christmas Fayre at The Creggans on Sunday 27th November. Pupils worked at the stall all day from 11am until 4pm and we raised £104.70 for the school. We were also selling raffle tickets for a fantastic Christmas hamper, containing vouchers worth up to £300! We raised £270.00 from our raffle on Sunday – thanks to the Strachur Parent Partnership Group for organising this. The tickets will be drawn at our Christmas concert on Thursday 22nd of December. Thank you to everyone who contributed.
We were all very excited about the launch of our Reading Challenges this week as part of Book Week Scotland! Nursery, p1,2 and 3 childre are aiming to see just how many books they can share with their families in our Bedtime Story Challenge, while p4-7 children are taking part in the First Minister’s Reading Challenge and have set themselves some personal reading goals.
Castlehill fundraised for CIN with a superb and varied Talent Show in the morning and then a bring and buy sale in the afternoon. Pictured are the children that performed for the school, family and friends. A grand total of £764 was raised.
Parents came to Easdale School to find out about what pupils have been learning. We invited the adults to join us for breakfast. There were lots of healthy breakfast foods to choose from. Mrs MacKechnie and Mrs MacLarty helped us by setting up the kitchen and hall. Thank you to Tesco for the food donations for this.
The children, parents and staff of St Joseph’s were delighted to sponsor the Stand Up to Cancer campaign in school on 14th October. The children came to school out of uniform and happily donated £1 towards this very worthy charity. The school had been approached by the local Cancer Research Shop and asked to be party to their local Stand Up to Cancer Campaign.
“On Monday, 26th September, Tayvallich Primary School was full of bright colours and laughter. It was European Language Day and each child and staff-member was dressed from head-to-toe in the bright colours of a chosen European flag. We all said which country we represented and some even had found out the Capital city of their country! The classroom was decorated with the colourful flags of Europe; balloons with Spanish colour words; and information boards with a variety of different language posters.”

The staff of St. Joseph’s Primary and Family Learning Centre has been working with Kirkmichael Community Development Group over the last few months to get a new ‘Meet and Eat’ programme for the elderly in the local community developed at St. Joseph’s Family Learning Centre. Wednesday 12 October, 2016 saw the launch of this excellent new initiative with the helpers of the Community Development Group bringing in the required food and setting up beautifully presented tables for the elderly to come along and enjoy some sandwiches, baking and a blether.

It was great to welcome so many friends and families to Clachan Primary today for our Macmillan Coffee Afternoon and Non Uniform Day.
The children have been busy baking and creating a tricky quiz for our guests. A fantastic total of £100 was raised.

Last week pupils took part in a homework project with a difference! They were asked to bake something at home with their parent or carer and bring it into school to be judged by our very own Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood (Mrs Speirs and Mr Moore!)
Pippa was our overall star baker, baking a chocolate cake complete with little pigs on top! Tiffany, Cameron, Lachlan, Kirsty and Jake all won ‘top baker’ their categories.
St Joseph’s was delighted to see the newly decorated memorial tree for former pupil Bridget Sharkey this week. Staff had wanted to prune the tree to keep it looking its best in Bridget’s memory and so approached John Kennedy, a parent of the school and expert gardener for his help. As with many of St. Joseph’s parents, John was delighted to assist and indeed came up with the idea of creating a beautiful border round the tree to focus attention.

Tighnabruaich Primary School celebrated Roald Dahl Day in style on Tuesday 13th September. We have been learning about Roald Dahl and sharing some of his stories since the beginning of term and were able to take part in lots of fun activities with our parents on Tuesday afternoon. Almost everyone came to school either dressed up as a Roald Dahl character or wearing something yellow (Roald Dahl’s favourite colour). We even had a visit from Mr Twit in the afternoon! Primary 4-7 pupils experienced a very rare and exciting outing to Coll on Wednesday. The Clansman was buzzing with eagerness from members of our whole Tiree community. Once on Coll we found ourselves in an unfamiliar landscape of rugged hills and twisting, turning roads. Mrs MacKechnie impressed us all by manoeuvring the new mini bus past the few not so passable ‘passing places’!
On Thursday 22nd September we celebrated our 3rd Eco Schools Green Flag with a One Planet Picnic. All of the food at our picnic was local or sutainably produced. Our Councillor Mrs Anne Horn came to join us along with parents, family and friends. Our oldest and youngest pupils cut the beautiful cake which was made by Hannah O’Hanlon, a community member of our Eco Committee and it has a very appropriate Beach Schools theme!
On Saturday 10th September, the Colgrain Community came together to spruce up the grounds of our school. Parents, children and staff worked together to tidy our willow archway, fix our bottle greenhouse, clean our pirate ship and much more! Everything is looking FANTASTIC! Primary 3/4/5 at St Andrew’s Rothesay, have had a very busy start to Autumn. Last week, they worked on the school allotment and were amazed at the range of vegetables that had grown over the summer months: carrots, potatoes, beetroot, parsnips and the most enormous cabbages they had ever seen!
