Salen Primary School pupils held a daffodil lunch to raise funds for Marie Curie. They were delighted to present one of our parents, Louise Scarlett, with a cheque for £400. An additional £116 was raised by holding a collection at the end of term service and the pupils requested that this also be donated to Marie Curie.

Parklands School In-Reach/Out-Reach Open afternoons.
The In-Reach/Out-Reach team at Parklands School in Helensburgh will be holding informal open afternoons from Monday 5th to Thursday 8th September from 3.30pm – 4.30pm.
Feel free to pop in to find out and chat to us about the various intervention programmes on offer to children within Mainstream schools, as well as taking a look at our planning, resources and classroom set-up.
Tarbert Academy reaches Rio!
DGS Takes part in the Scottish Disability Sports National Junior Athletics Tournament
On the 1st of June 2016, eleven pupils from Dunoon Grammar School took part in the Scottish Disability Sports National Junior Athletics tournament in Grangemouth. Competitors came from all over the country to race and take part in a great variety of sports. This is the sixth time that DGS pupils have participated.
Toward Primary School BBQ
On Friday 17th June Toward Primary School held our annual fundraising BBQ. Everyone had a fun filled evening and raised lots of money for the school. We had a lot of support from staff, parents, members of the community and local buisnesses. We held a raffle with fantastic prizes kindly donated to the school by Scottish Salmon, Timothy J Sharp (Jewellers), Candice Girard Salon and Chouxmakes Cakes. M&M Bouncy Castle & Character Hire came along with Mickey and Minnie and their bouncy castles which were highly popular with the children.

ICYCLE
P6 at Tarbert Academy have recently completed their I Cycle training. The children have been using the programme since March and each week have taken to their bikes and practiced many different road manoeuvres. On training days the children were instructed by I cycle trainers Tony Jones and Arlene Scott who were also joined by local police officer Alan Frame, who impressed on the children the importance of good cycle practice. After successfully completing the training the children were each gifted a bike lock from local councillor Anne Horn on behalf of the Kintyre Safety Forum.
Strachur’s New Polytunnel
We are delighted that Mr Burke (local Strachur retiree) has come into our school to transform our polytunnel from an overgrown jungle to something fit for Beechgrove Garden! We are now growing tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, peppers, radishes and lettuce. Mr Burke has been involving groups of children in the process and pupils have taken responsibility for watering the plants everyday.
Yoga at Dalintober ELC
The children at Dalintober ELC recently participated in a ‘taster’ session of children’s Yoga, hosted by Rachel Edwards from Yoganadi. Yoga is a great activity to support children to relieve tension and stress, increase concentration and expand their imagination and creativity. We will continue to work in partnership with Rachel from Yoganadi through the next Academic Year and look forward to more fun and enjoyment from this worthwhile activity.

Sunny Sports for Rockfield!
Rockfield Primary held a very successful sports day, at Mossfield Stadium, for the whole school. The day consisted of both competitive races and clan activities. The day was started by Oban High School Pipe Band providing wonderful music for us to march around the pitch to, big thanks to all involved! The pupils marched in clans and then had a fabulous warm up which was provided by David MacArthur and senior pupils from Oban High School.
New Construction Area at Campbeltown ELC!
Thanks to Buildbase, children from Campbeltown ELC, Meadows Under Fives and the Kintyre Toy Library have been enjoying a fantastic new outdoor construction area at Campbeltown Nursery Centre.
Staff at the centre take great pride in promoting outdoor learning and are extremely grateful to Buildbase for supplying the gravel and ground sheeting to enable the area to be created. The site promotes an endless range of leaning activities and is proving to be very popular with all the children.
Kilcreggan Sports Day
Well done Kilcreggan Primary School for a fabulous sports day on Tuesday. The children of P5 and P6 did a fabulous job of organising the day, from deciding upon the theme (the Olympics), to organising the teams, the events and requesting a healthy snack. Thank you to the PTA for organising the lovely fruit kebabs. A special mention also goes to Mhairi, Tarra and Jean for organising a sponsored run in order to raise money for Cancer Relief. they raised £200.
Sunny Samba Drumming Performance at Dalintober PS
P5, P6 and P7 pupils of Dalintober PS were very lucky to have worked with Mark McSporran, CAST on Samba Drumming skills this session. They showed off their new talents in an outdoor performance for fellow pupils, staff and parents – and the sun even shone, adding to the samba feel! Many thanks to Mark for sharing his expertise.
HEARTSTART AT KILCREGGAN
Kilcreggan Primary P6 and p7 pupils recently received “Heartstart “ training. This training gives pupils guidance about what to do if they find someone suffering a cardiac arrest attack. They learned about
• how to correctly put someone into the recovery position and assess their condition
• what to in an emergency situation,
• how to recall the procedures using the “DRS ABC” acronym.
They used the “Little Annie” dummies to learn how to perform CPR.
Salen PS Gardening Diary
The Eco-Committee has been busy in the gardens again with everything growing well. The peas and barley are sprouting fast. The sun has continued to shine brightly so everything needs lots of water. Fortunately there is still water stored in our water butts. The tatties got mounded up again, and lots more weeding got done.
Amazing athletes at Colgrain
On Monday 9th May at Lomond Sports Hall, Colgrain pupils took part in the Primary Schools Athletics Competition.
Colgrain Primary showed some wonderful talent amongst the pupils.
They were awarded :- girls 60m – 2nd, boys 60m – 1st, boys 600m – 1st and 3rd, boys shot putt – 3rd, girls shot putt – 2nd, girls long jump – 1st and 2nd, boys long jump – 2nd, boys and girls relay 100m both 1st place.
Overall, there was an amazing hall of medals. Well done to everyone.
Colgrain Primary football victory.
On the 16th May 2016, Colgrain football team along with 9 other teams in the Helensburgh and Lomond area, came together to fight it out for the Christian Aid, Martha Murdoch memorial trophy. After some exciting matches in the preliminary rounds they came out top in their section, subsequently going onto win their semi-final to reach the final against Cardross Primary. After a tightly fought game, Colgrain was victorious winning 2-0. Man of the tournament was also awarded to Ryan Grant who scored a magnificent goal for Colgrain. Clan Sports at Dunoon Stadium!
Dunoon Primary School held their annual Sports Day on Monday 30th May 2016 at Dunoon Stadium. We started the event with a Clan Parade around the 400m track led by piper, Cambeul Walker. The clan captains carried their tartan banners proudly and the children enjoyed parading round and waving to the many parents, grandparents, friends and siblings. Following this, clans competed in different activities for the Clan Sports.

Where’s Wally?
Dunoon Primary School Primary 5/4 invited their family and friends into their classroom last Wednesday to allow them to see all of the hard work they had put in to their ‘Where’s Wally?’ topic. There were many Wally Watchers to be seen around the class, with a variety of disguises on show. The class had studied different continents and selected a country from within each continent to look at in more depth. From their findings, they produced a travel brochure which highlighted what they felt were the features that would encourage someone to visit the country of their choice.
