The P4 children at Rhu Primary recently celebrated their hard work for ‘The Magic Castle topic’ with friends and family. The pupils held an open afternoon where they gave visitors a guided tour of the ‘Great Hall’. Wall displays included Suits of Armour, Castle Maps, Fantasy Broomsticks, Owl collages, Secret Panels and even a Magic Spell Recipe book! The children also demonstrated how to build a catapult using lolly sticks and elastic bands!

5th Green Flag!
Rhu Primary School remain ‘Evergreen’, as we celebrate our 5th Green Flag. Christmas came early as the pupils received the joyous news. We were congratulated on our achievements in the topics of Biodiversity and Food in the Environment. We were also commended on our on-going beach cleans, which we have extended to the play park and Ardenconnel Woods. Eco Scotland were particularly impressed by our work on anti-dog fouling which was greatly appreciated by our local residents. The pupils are busily making plans to celebrate this great achievement in the New Year and we look forward to sharing this soon.
“Aladdin Trouble” at Strath of Appin Primary School
Children from the Pre 5 Unit and pupils of Strath of Appin Primary school put on a splendid production of “Aladdin Trouble” to a packed, appreciative audience in Appin Village Hall. The children had great fun learning and performing their panto.

Hansel and Gretel at Colgrain Pre-5 Unit
On Thursday 15th December, Colgrain Pre-5 Unit entertained their families and friends with their Hansel and Gretel sing-along. The talented boys and girls played a variety of instruments to accompany each song. Following the story they also shared a French song called Père NoĂ«l, Away in a Manger, Twinkle Twinkle Christmas Star and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Mummies and Daddies had tea, coffee and a taste of the wonderful gingerbread stars made by the children. The show was enjoyed by all – especially the boys and girls!

Rothesay Primary Nativity!
The boys and girls of Primary 1 brought a fabulous ‘Noisy Nativity’ to the United Church of Bute on Wednesday 14th December. The whole school joined in with all the songs with such gusto that Rev Jones said the roof nearly came off the church! Our P7 narrators helped keep everything on track and we all ooohed as the kings presented their gifts to the baby Jesus.
Book Week Scotland
Book Week Scotland at Rothesay Joint Campus This year when the Bookbug Primary 1 Family bags arrived, they were taken away by S2 who planned a series of lessons to bring the books alive. With Mrs Sullivan and Mr Gault to help, the pupils got together to read the stories and do follow up activities to help really understand the characters and the different story lines.
Rothesay Primary Recycling Centre
The pupils at Rothesay Primary have been recycling cardboard, plastic bottles and packaging from their snacks, to help gain points for their school Houses. The eco committee monitor the collections and weigh these on a Friday before the points are collated. However, if there is something in a bin that cannot be recycled (the eco committee have a do’s and don’t poster beside the bins) then that House is disqualified!! Recycling has never been such fun!

Strone Primary celebrates all things Scottish
Pupils at Strone and Kilmodan Primary Schools have been enjoying a week long curriculum programme to celebrate Scottish heritage.
On Monday 28th November Kilmodan pupils joined Strone pupils for the day.
In the morning the children participated in a number of activities learning traditional Scottish songs, poetry and art.

Hostel Factor 2016
The Hostel Factor 2016 was held on 29th November, to a packed audience of parents and staff. The show started with Junior Presenter, Cameron, a terrific witty and explosive introduction to the show and St Andrews Night. Our own Ant & Dec presenters, Brandon & Josh super smart double act put the judges and acts through their paces with their witty and entertaining presenting skills.
Digital Leaders at St Columba’s
Some of the pupils in St Columba’s, have been awarded the title of Digital Leaders. The school works in partnership with iTeach, an education company who supports staff and pupils to embed the use of technology into their curriculum, who have helped to train some of the pupils to ensure that they can, amongst a wide range of things, troubleshoot and create video tutorials to support other pupils and staff. Every child in the school has their own iPad that is used to support them in all areas of the curriculum and to ensure that the children in St Columba’s have the very highest standard of digital skills possible.
Strachur Christmas Fayre at The Creggans
Pupils from the primary and pre-5 made various items to be sold at the Christmas Fayre at The Creggans on Sunday 27th November. Pupils worked at the stall all day from 11am until 4pm and we raised ÂŁ104.70 for the school. We were also selling raffle tickets for a fantastic Christmas hamper, containing vouchers worth up to ÂŁ300! We raised ÂŁ270.00 from our raffle on Sunday – thanks to the Strachur Parent Partnership Group for organising this. The tickets will be drawn at our Christmas concert on Thursday 22nd of December. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

Rhunahaorine Reading Challenges
We were all very excited about the launch of our Reading Challenges this week as part of Book Week Scotland! Nursery, p1,2 and 3 childre are aiming to see just how many books they can share with their families in our Bedtime Story Challenge, while p4-7 children are taking part in the First Minister’s Reading Challenge and have set themselves some personal reading goals.
Kirn Primary School
The Contractor building the new Kirn Primary School, Morrisons, invited pupil to design posters which would be enlarged and placed on the hoardings outside the building site. Last Thursday the winners, accompanied by the nursery pupils, visited the site to see their pictures being displayed. While there, the pupils helped plant bulbs at the front of the Site Office.
