‘World of Work’ Week at Dalintober PS and ELCC

Dalintober World of Work Week  SpringbankPupils at Dalintober & ELCC embarked on a journey of discovery through the world of work.
The week involved a range of visits to places of work in the local area and the school also welcomed a wide variety of visitors through its doors to work with classes.
ELCC had a visit from our School Crossing Patroller and the children loved taking turns to hold the lollipop.

Kodu Session on the 10th May postponed.

Cardross AppsThe Kodu Twilight Session with Gary Clark that was planned for Tuesday 10th will be postponed until next session. This is to allow teachers in the HALCO area that are interested in coding and computer science to attend the Introduction to Computing Science workshops instead. This is a really exciting opportunity provided by Education Scotland and we urge anyone interested in coding to attend.
The remaining sessions will continue as planned:
Tuesday 3rd May – Socrative & Nearpod
Tuesday 17th May – Tickle App with Sphero

Tayvallich P4-7 – Action in an Emergency

Tayvallich First aid training 1Pupils at Tayvallich PS have been learning how to save a life. On Tuesday 19 April Mr. Andy Craven talked to the P4-7 children about the correct methods of dealing with cardiac arrest. He discussed protocols and the children were made aware of the physical signs of a person who was unwell and suffering cardiac arrest.

Tayvallich and Glassary Young Leaders

Tayvallich and Glassary Young leaders 1Primary 6 pupils from Glassary and Tayvallich joined together on a lovely sunny day to be trained as Young Leaders by Active Schools Co-ordinator, Eilidh MacPherson.
They brainstormed the personal qualities and skills that they would need to be effective sports leaders. Great fun was had by all when trying out the games and then planning how to deliver these games to groups of younger children.
At the end of the day the P6 pupils had a go at teaching some fun active games to Tayvallich’s P1-4 class.

Castlehill Primary’s P5-7 girls have enjoyed after school SOS fitness sessions over the last few weeks. Fiona and Morgan Irwin have provided a varied programme of activities including dance, boxing and the much loved boot camp experience! Castlehill Primary School wants to motivate its pupils to keep fit and active, and to improve social and emotional wellbeing.

Technologies Showcase at Innellan Primary

Innellan Tech Showcase 2Pupils from Toward, Innellan, St Muns and Dunoon, supported by Gary Clark and Steven Simpson have been learning how to write computer code. Dunoon has been using Lego WeDo and the other schools have been using Kudo. The progress and improvements in the pupils independent working and problem solving has been fantastic and the pupils over a period of a few weeks have managed to develop a wide range of simple to complex games.

Dunoon Primary ‘A’ Team Win Inter School Volleyball Tournament

Dunoon volleyball 1 March 2016Dunoon Primary won the annual inter Primary School tournament on Wednesday 2nd March organised by Mrs McLean. The teams From Kirn, St Mun’s, Strachur, Lochgoilhead, Tighnabruaich and Sandbank were a credit to their schools as they played with skill and enjoyed the day! Dunoon A and B teams both fought hard to get to the semi finals. the draw was made and they ended up playing each other to put one team through to the final round.

Five Pipers Piping at Tighnabruaich Primary

TIGHNABRUAICH PipersFive very excited young pipers were delighted when their instructor, Craig Campbell, arrived at school with not one set, but FIVE sets of bagpipes. They were extremely proud and relieved that they were able to get a sound out of them after much huffing and puffing.
When they got home…..

Young Leaders at Strone Primary School

Strone PS Young Leaders 1Strone Primary School signed up for the Argyll and Bute Young Leaders Award delivered by Andy Trull the Active Schools Co-ordinator. 10 pupils have just successfully completed the training. After looking at the qualities that a Young Leader should have the pupils looked in more detail about how to organise activity sessions and manage situations. They quickly learnt how to adapt activities and even to invent new games.

Swimming and Badminton Success at Dalintober PS

Dalintober Swimming and Badminton success 1Dalintober PS has been celebrating recent sporting achievements this week. Five pupils travelled to Glasgow to represent the school in the National Schools’ Swimming Championship. Euan finished 22nd overall in the 50m Freestyle with a PB. Astrid, Logan, Sophie and Claudia qualified a very impressive 3rd in their heat, and 13th overall in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay – the youngest team in the finals – also with a PB.

Strachur Primary ‘Walk to Rio’

Strachur Walk to Rio 1Strachur Primary and Pre-5 have started a challenge – to walk the 6000 miles to Rio, where this year’s Olympic Games will be held. We have been doing laps of the playground and have figured out that 7 laps is approximately one mile. Last week we managed to walk 250 miles! The children (and staff) enjoy the exercise and we have also been learning about Rio in the classroom.

Salen Primary Hosts Rugby World Cup

Salen Rugby World Cup 1Five countries battled for supremacy with Ireland achieving world domination when they scooped up the prestigious Rugby World Cup at Salen Primary School.

This event was made possible with the help of Mr Gus Whyte who kindly refereed and Mrs Babs Whyte, PE Teacher.
