Rosneath Primary School, P7/6 held a superb Burns Supper on the evening of Monday 27 January 2015.
After a supper of Soup followed by Haggis, neeps and tatties, then some of Mrs Johnson’s famous Shortbread, the pupils gave us an excellent evening of entertainment in true Burns fashion, from their ‘toasts’ (how witty the toast to the Lassies and also Rhys’s reply from the Lassies), to poetry, singing and dancing for all. Today Kirn Primary School’s P7 pupils celebrated the birth of Scotland’s most famous poet by hosting a Burns Supper for parents and friends, together with four invited guests from the community.
Children from Primary 3, Primary 4 and Primary 5 attended a Burns’ Event, for local primary schools, which was held at the Corran Halls, Oban on the 27th of January. It was all smiles as the children proudly wore the medals that they had won in the various Recitation, Art and Writing in Scots competitions.
Primary 1 pupils at Rosneath enjoyed a fun Friday afternoon, with a Scottish twist, to celebrate Burns’ Night. Pupils enjoyed learning and performing Scottish poem, “The Lollipop Man” and Scottish song “Ye Canny Shove Yer Granny Aff a Bus”. To complete the Scottish experience the children took part in Scottish dancing; ate and drank an array of Scottish foods; wore tartan clothes and accessories and created their own Scotland flags. An awesome afternoon was had by all!
Recently we read a story called Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox. The story told how a young boy (Wilfred), helped an elderly lady find the memories she thought she had lost by finding objects which help her remember her own childhood so long ago.
What a fantastic afternoon at Mount Stuart for the P7 Burns Supper. The children led the whole event from the Selkirk Grace to the Vote of Thanks. We had recitations, songs, instrumentalists and highland dancing… a full afternoon celebrating the life and work of Robert Burns. Miss Henry and Mrs Watson wish to thank Mrs McKirdy and Mr Briggs for their efforts, Mount Stuart for the use of their premises, MacQueen’s Butcher for donating the delicious haggis and local farm Birgidale Butts for the tatties and neeps!

Rothesay Academy Pupils Visit Kelvingrove Art Gallery On Monday the 19th of January S3 and S4 Art and Design students from Rothesay Academy visited the Kelvingrove Art Galleries in Glasgow. It was a fantastic day out taking in the splendour of one of Glasgow’s most magnificent and best loved buildings bathed, as it was, in glorious winter sunshine!

We raised £200 for school fund.
The cool angels from Barcaldine Primary School did God’s list of jobs at their nativity performance on Tuesday evening. A church full of family and friends joined in singing carols and taking part in a Christmas quiz and enjoyed a very entertaining evening. They especially enjoyed the creative use of giant cut out shepherds and kings on wheels to complete the scene. Our silver collection raised £74.80 for Text Santa.
Lochgilphead Primary 5’s have been learning about life in 1914 and the First World War. They planned to turn their classroom into a museum for a day, but due to its success, it remained open for a second day! In the collection, there was some amazing memorabilia from home, alongside wonderful models made by the children. There was even a World War I trench dugout complete with bed and cooking stove. During the topic the pupils were learning to ask good questions, make notes and use their notes to create all the information panels for the museum. Continue reading Lochgilphead P5’s History Mystery
St Andrew’s Primary School’s Third Green Flag!
St Andrew’s Eco Committee met with Paula Love, the Eco Schools Assessor, and informed her of all the hard work put in by the pupils, staff, parents and community members to maintain the Eco School status. After an initial meeting to discuss what has been happening in our school, from weekly litter picking duties to organised days like UNICEF’s Day of Change, the Eco Committee sang our Eco Code; complete with the newly choreographed actions.

A great day was had by all at St. Joseph’s School as St. Andrew’s Day was celebrated in style. Everyone had been invited to come to school wearing some tartan at a charge of £1 per person – an initiative which helped raise funds for the school. Then everyone packed into the assembly hall to watch each class perform a Scottish song or dance. There was quite a genre of singing on offer from ‘Ali Babi’ by the pre-5 children to ‘The Song of the Clyde’ by P6.

At the end of November, Lismore Primary School held a USA themed week. The children had suggested this following the success of China Week at the end of January. The week was chosen so that the children could celebrate Thanksgiving in true style on Thursday 27th November. The children were challenged to make another film about their week and discussed ways to improve their camera and presentation skills before beginning to present their findings.

Amirah from Primary 7 has been awarded Second Place in the competition to design a Christmas card for Jackie Baillie MSP. Amirah’s design will be featured on the back of the Christmas card and will be sent out to around 3000 people. A presentation ceremony has been arranged for all the prize winners and certificate winners. Dunoon Grammar School song for War Child a hit on Social Media
Pupils in Dunoon Grammar School are celebrating the success of a song released to commemorate the centenary of World War 1. (see below to hear the fabulous song)
Arlene MacKechnie (15) and Abigail Pryde (17) from the Argyll and Bute school published a version of Eric Bogle’s iconic song ‘No Mans Land’ on Social Media on Remembrance Day, 11 November, 2014 – a version of the song that Eric himself has described as ‘truly truthful and emotive’.

All of the pupils in St Columba’s Primary School and Rockfield Primary School were invited to create or design a flower in memory of someone or something special to them. Some of the designs that came in were very creative and they were used to create a Garden of Remembrance within the Assembly Hall. Both schools also came together for a Remembrance Day service which was led by Rev Dugald Cameron.
We were inspired at Toward Primary School by the Tower Bridge poppies to make our own clay poppies to commemorate the end of the WW1. We have also made a poppy wreath which we will lay at the Memorial at Innellan on Remembrance Day.

A recent visit to Rosneath Primary School by Chief Chebe from African Arts in Glasgow had the “joint jumpin'”. What a wonderful learning experience.
The day began with a whole school Assembly related to Black History Month as part of our school’s Global Citizenship journey. The children were amazed at just how far some children have to walk in African countries to collect clean drinking water.
Former SPL Star Visits DGS
It’s not every day that DGS pupils can boast of being part of a football training session with a national cup winning manager – but that is exactly what happened last week, when Dylan Kerr visited the school.
Dylan enjoyed a very long and distinguished playing career, including successful spells with Leeds United and Kilmarnock.
Pupils from Primaries 5-7 had a fascinating interactive talk from Stephen Grant, a Children’s Worker from Hope Hall Church, Bridge of Weir this morning. The talk was based on a WW1 stretcher bearer – Willam Coltman, whose grandson is a friend of Stephens. He talked to the children about William Coltman’s upbringing and how his strong Christian beliefs and faith helped him choose to join in with the war effort in 1914 as a medic to help his fellow man.
