Primary 6 visit Scottish Shale Museum

Primary 6 enjoyed a wonderful day today at the Almond Valley Heritage Centre and Scottish Shale Oil Museum! Our topic is Scottish Industries and we loved seeing how life in Broxburn would have been in the days of mining and shale oil.

We played games in the adventure zone, made candles using parrafin wax, explored the history of industry in Broxburn. Then we visited the old Mill, and the farm!

We had lots of fun on the trampolines, gokarts, wartime garden, animal enclosures and parks!

Thank you to Sami, Manpida, Freya and Ali’s mums for coming along and sharing this day with us! Even though it was cold and wet, we all had a fantastic time!

Primary 1b’s Edinburgh Castle Trip

Primary 1b had a fantastic time at Edinburgh Castle (please forgive the delay of this post!!!)

We arrived at the Royal Mile, and were so excited walking up the hill, to catch our first glimpse of the castle.

It was so much bigger than we expected! And luckily the weather stayed clear for us.

We visited The Crown Jewels (very pretty); The Great Hall (have you seen the size of some of those swords??? And we found the key to the entire castle); we had lunch in the dungeons; we saw Mon’s Meg (the biggest ever canon … it was huge!!) and we heard (and viewed) the one o’clock gun (it was awfully loud … it gave us such a scare).

We had a brilliant day …. and most of us fell asleep on the bus home.

Fun in the sun for primary 3’s school trip!

P3 had an amazing day last week when we went on our school trip!  As we have been learning about different cultures and food from around the world, as well as keeping our bodies healthy, we visited some local restaurants to sample some different foods and learn about how to make our own meals! We had great fun and would like to thank the Harvester Grill and Pizza Express at Livingston Centre for letting us visit! I’m sure we’ll all be back soon!

When our visits were over we got back on the bus and traveled to our local park Stewartfield where we enjoyed a picnic in the glorious sunshine! We played rounders and races and then enjoyed an afternoon walk back to school!

We would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Nia’s mum, Ruby’s mum, Hollie C’s mum, Owen’s mum, Esme’s dad and Kieron’s granny for joining us on our trip! We hope you had as much fun as all of us!

Glasgow Science Centre

On Monday 1st June, P4, P5/4 and P5 went to the Science Centre in Glasgow.   When we arrived some of us went to the first floor, some of us went to the second floor and the rest of us went to the top floor.  It was a great trip and we all enjoyed the activities, experiments and science theatre show!  We got the chance to have a browse in the shop and buy souvenirs and had our lunch in the large atrium.

Isobel – I enjoyed the large scale hamster wheel on the third floor and it wasn’t as easy as it looked!

Nicole – I enjoyed when we got the chance  to pump the blood to the heart and it increased the heart beat.

Niamh – I liked watching Francesco and Isla trying to eat the cream crackers quickly.

Ehlana – I learned that the body needs to let gas release or you could explode!

Adrian – I liked the challenge where I had to use the air gun to manouver the beach ball through the hoop.

Alea – When watching the show I learned that the amount of blood your heart beats every day can fill 125 bath tubs!

Alex – I liked looking at the real life tornado that re-formed itself.

Madison – I enjoyed holding onto the high bar and timed how long I could do this for.

Ben – The sprint challenge was great!  I got a best time of 1:63.

Lukas – I liked when I had to spin the wheel, whilst standing on the platform and turn the wheel at the same time.  Astronaut use this in space to control the shuttle.

We would defintiely recommend the trip to another class.  It was a great day out, we learned lots and had fun!  A special thanks to our wonderful parent helpers for keeping us safe.

Our Library Trip

P4 and P4/3 had a wonderful trip to Broxburn Library today.  Diane read us lots of stories – they were very funny.  We are looking forward to visiting the library again soon, perhaps with our parents at the weekend.  We promised Diane that, as a thank you, we would help decorate Broxburn Library with some lovely Easter artwork.

Thanks to Mrs Ferguson, Rachel’s mum, for coming with us today.

Our Viking Trip!

Today we went for a visit to the National Museum of Scotland. We all had a fantastic time. We saw lots of Viking artefacts including pots, jewellery, weapons and utensils. We even saw a Viking man’s grave! We know that Vikings were buried with objects that were special to them. We saw one poor horse who was buried with his master. We got to handle a lot of Viking artefacts too. We found out that the Vikings used ice skates and that they played games that were similar to chess. Following lunch, we had a quick visit to the fantastic animal kingdom, and then we were homeward bound for St Nicholas and Broxburn.

Thanks to all our helpers today: Miss King, Mrs Fitzpatrick, Mrs Chaudhry and Mrs Chatterjee.
