Primary 1’s special surprise !

The boys and girls from P1a and P1b got a special surprise today ! It would appear that a friendly dragon visited our classrooms whilst we were outside practising our capital letters.

We have been left a letter and a special D-mail box from this dragon.  He is sad because his land, ‘Fairyland’ has been destroyed so he wants us to turn our classrooms into a new Fairylands.

Well, as you can imagine this has caused great excitement and we are definitely up for this challenge.  We will keep you all posted over the next few weeks as to what we are going to do to rebuild Fairyland.

Primary 1 ! Singing Sensations!

P1a and P1b had a taste of what it is like to be a popstar today when we recorded our version of ‘When Santa got Stuck up the Chimney’ for our school’s Christmas CD.  We sang into one big microphone using our very best voices. We sounded great ! The CDs  are currently being made and will soon be ready for you to order for £4.  More details will follow about this shortly.

Who will be our first DOJO champions this week ?

We have sent home a note with a personal code on it.  This can be used to access your child’s DOJO points from home.

Thankyou everyone,

Primary 1 teachers.

Wednesday’s World in P1.

For today’s ‘Wednesday’s World’ we learnt all about hedgehogs. Mrs Macdonald has one living in her garden.  She is going to see if she can take a picture of it.

What did we learn ?

Catherine – They curl into a ball because they get scared.

Thomas – A baby hedgehog is called a hoglet.

Ollie – They like to use leaves to keep warm.

Grady – They like to eat berries.

Lucas C – They like to eat worms.

Tavia – Hedgehogs hibernate in Winter.  Hibernate means you go for a long sleep.

We also learnt that hedgehogs eat frogs ! Wow, we never knew that !

Dinosaur Measuring fun in Primary 1.

We got a big surprise after lunch today to find lots of dinosaur footprints leading from Mrs Macdonald’s class into Mrs Baty’s class.  The footprints were all different sizes but had one thing in common, three claws ! This could only mean one thing, they belonged to a T-Rex.  We asked our baby dinosaurs, Georgosaurus and Rory (the baby T-Rexes who hatched out of the eggs in our class a few weeks ago)  if they had seen anything.  It turned out that their mummies had paid them a quick visit during our lunch break to check up on them.  Phew !!! We were so glad that we didn’t see them, they are carnivores !

We put the footprints to good use, measuring them with cubes.  Some measured 27 cubes, others were 13 cubes long.  We also measured our own footprints and compared sizes.  We also participated in lots of other dinosaur activities.  Here we are busy at work and play.

Great work today everyone !

Mrs Macdonald and Mrs Baty.

A wonderful Wednesday in P1.

We have had a very, very busy day today.

What did we do ?

We learnt a new sound, ‘ l’.

We blended our sounds together to read and write words.

We practised forming our numbers on the smartboard.

Mrs Macdonald’s class had music.

Mrs Baty’s class had P.E.

During R.E we learnt that it is nice to help people and do kind things.

We made bunting, coloured in posters and made a table decoration for our coffee morning.

We learnt two new songs that we are going to sing at our coffee morning.

Busy bees ! Thank you everyone for working hard.

Mrs Macdonald and Mrs Baty.

Fossils found at St Nicholas!

Primary 1a and 1b have had a couple of very exciting afternoons !  Prof. D. Inosaur left us all a note saying that there were dinosaur fossils buried somewhere in our school ! Well, as you can imagine this caused great excitement amongst the children.  Where could they be ? And what is a fossil ?   Luckily for us, our kind professor told us in his letter all about fossils and he left us clues to find the fossils.

Our clues led us outside.  We found a spade in our playground and started digging.  Just as he had said, we found lots and lots of dinosaur fossils ! These were so cool.  We had a good look at them, guessing the name of each dinosaur from the print on the fossil.  It was great fun.

To help us to develop our understanding more, we then played a matching game.  We had to match the picture of the dinosaur to its fossil.  Thes dinosaur pictures were hidden all around our room, so we had to have a good look for them. We also made a start making our very own dinosaur fossil picture out of cotton buds.  We cannot wait until they are finished.
