This week we have written some amazing descriptions of our Hamish McHaggis (who is helping us to find out more about Scotland). We all remembered to use capital letters, full stops, finger spaces, and we are even learning to use adjectives to describe something (ie he has a shiny red nose).

Today we were learning all about Charles Rennie Mackintosh. We learned that he lived in Glasgow, and he was an artist. We made our own pictures based on his. We decided that for it to be similar, we had to have a pink flower, some stripes, and some small squares.

Don’t they look amazing?

Also today, we had a very special visitor, who came to sing some songs with us. She brought lots of fun props to help us with some of the songs!

P1 Visitor

Image result for police clipart uk

Today P1 were very lucky to have a special visitor. We were visited by 2 policemen (PC Robertson and PC Hart)!!

We were very excited (and on our best behaviour).

Who helps us?

Alfie – policeman

Matthew – fireman

Ava – lollypop man (he has an orange jacket and a hat and a stick)

Haziq – shopkeepers

Louvisa – they wear a uniform

James – and a badge

Joshua – high service (customer service)

Piper – teachers

We learned a lot about Stranger Danger – we know that we don’t speak to people we don’t know!

We had some questions we were bursting to ask. Lots of these were about the uniform they were wearing. We wanted to know why it was bright yellow, what the pen was for, and what the handcuffs looked like . The policeman even arrested the teddybear!

We also asked:

Olivia – How do you catch bad guys? (we are really fast, and some people tell us where the bad guys are?)

Joshua – where do you do? (we take the bad guys to the police station)

Arran – is the car bumpy or not bumpy? (it can get bumpy when we drive fast)

Roman – do you only catch bad guys? (we only catch bad guys, but we speak to good and bad people)

James – do you drive really fast? (only in an emergency)

Tyler – why do you have a police hat? (so everyone knows we are policemen)

Kayleigh – why do you have handcuffs? (in case the bad guys run away)

Lucas – do you have a police ambulance? (no, but we do have a police van)

Leo – why do you have a radio? (so that in an emergency we can speak to each other when we’re far away)

Joshua – why do you have a flashlight? (so we can see in the dark, because we work at nighttime too, to keep you safe).

We then all had a chance to wear the policemans hat! (including the bear).

We then got a chance to see the police van! We were so excited!

We had such a fun day!

(photos will be posted later!)

Day 8 of Primary 1’s Fitness Fortnight.

Today we had a visit from three lovely ladies from ‘West Lothian Gymnastics’. What did we do ?  Well we all went to the gym hall and had a gymnastics taster session .  It was amazing ! First of all we played a warm up game called ‘Breakfast’ before we stretched out.  We were then placed into three groups and let loose on the equipment doing forward rolls, backward rolls, handstands, kangaroo jumps and more jumping using the springboard.  We had such a good time that some of us wanted to have another go.  Well done everyone for working hard !

Primary 1’s special surprise !

The boys and girls from P1a and P1b got a special surprise today ! It would appear that a friendly dragon visited our classrooms whilst we were outside practising our capital letters.

We have been left a letter and a special D-mail box from this dragon.  He is sad because his land, ‘Fairyland’ has been destroyed so he wants us to turn our classrooms into a new Fairylands.

Well, as you can imagine this has caused great excitement and we are definitely up for this challenge.  We will keep you all posted over the next few weeks as to what we are going to do to rebuild Fairyland.

Mrs Macdonald said that our costumes were fantastic ! As a treat we have all been given an apple to use for dooking tomorrow and some sweeties.

Dinosaur Measuring fun in Primary 1.

We got a big surprise after lunch today to find lots of dinosaur footprints leading from Mrs Macdonald’s class into Mrs Baty’s class.  The footprints were all different sizes but had one thing in common, three claws ! This could only mean one thing, they belonged to a T-Rex.  We asked our baby dinosaurs, Georgosaurus and Rory (the baby T-Rexes who hatched out of the eggs in our class a few weeks ago)  if they had seen anything.  It turned out that their mummies had paid them a quick visit during our lunch break to check up on them.  Phew !!! We were so glad that we didn’t see them, they are carnivores !

We put the footprints to good use, measuring them with cubes.  Some measured 27 cubes, others were 13 cubes long.  We also measured our own footprints and compared sizes.  We also participated in lots of other dinosaur activities.  Here we are busy at work and play.

Great work today everyone !

Mrs Macdonald and Mrs Baty.

Well done to Raqab for being P1a’s ‘Star Pupil of the Week’.  I really did have to think for a while this week as all of the boys and girls are working hard, remembering their magic manners and trying really hard to listen to instructions. However , Raqab receives this week’s award for being a super team player. He is always helpful around the class and caught my eye this week as he helped a friend to tidy up. Well done Raqab !

Fossils found at St Nicholas!

Primary 1a and 1b have had a couple of very exciting afternoons !  Prof. D. Inosaur left us all a note saying that there were dinosaur fossils buried somewhere in our school ! Well, as you can imagine this caused great excitement amongst the children.  Where could they be ? And what is a fossil ?   Luckily for us, our kind professor told us in his letter all about fossils and he left us clues to find the fossils.

Our clues led us outside.  We found a spade in our playground and started digging.  Just as he had said, we found lots and lots of dinosaur fossils ! These were so cool.  We had a good look at them, guessing the name of each dinosaur from the print on the fossil.  It was great fun.

To help us to develop our understanding more, we then played a matching game.  We had to match the picture of the dinosaur to its fossil.  Thes dinosaur pictures were hidden all around our room, so we had to have a good look for them. We also made a start making our very own dinosaur fossil picture out of cotton buds.  We cannot wait until they are finished.
