Our week in P3 and P3/2

Read all about our week in P3 and P3/2.

We have been learning about chance. We know when things are certain, impossible, likely or unlikely. We were thinking if things had a high chance or low chance of happening. We had to separate questions into categories if they were likely, unlikely, certain or impossible.

We were also looking at Venn and Carroll Diagrams to help us  show information more clearly. We completed lots of different activities.

We made predictions for the last chapter of The Owl Who Is Afraid of the Dark which was called Dark is Beautiful. Some of us even guessed the correct title.  We were focusing on punctuation and making sure our sentences made sense during Free Writing Friday.

We made Caution posters, after learning about our triggers which make us move away from the Green zone. Knowing our triggers help us to avoid going into the Red zone.

We were learning about expositions. An exposition is a one sided argument and you try to persuade someone to have the same point of view as you. We learnt how to structure an exposition.

We drew a pocket garden which hopefully we will get to create during outdoor learning in the next few weeks.

We learnt about Joseph and his brothers from the book of Genesis. This story was all about forgiveness and reconciling relationships. Joseph’s bothers were jealous of him and were unkind to him but Joseph forgave them.

In PE we were doing gymnastics and in Music we were singing songs and playing games.

We started our new topic which is our local community Broxburn – we spoke about what we know and what we would like to find out about during the next few weeks.

Quick week in P3 and P3/2

Primary 3 and Primary 3/2 have been working hard again this week.  We have been using our snapshot of learning jotters this week so that we can share our learning at home.  We can’t wait to bring our jotters home to show off our hard work.  Read all about our learning below.

In Literacy, we have using our mighty writer board to  write a story about an alien.  We have been trying to use adjectives and good openers. We have also been working on our comprehension skills after reading our class reading book.  We are working very hard on our cursive script.  We have tried to use lines in our  snapshot jotters this week so we can show our family our hard work.

In Numeracy, we have been learning about tessellation.  We know that tessellation is tiling with shapes and that there should be no gaps in the tiling. We created a tessellation using numicon, cuisenaire rods, on the laptop and on paper.

In Science, we have been learning about sound. We had to listen carefully to some sounds and guess what was making the sound.  We got some of them correct but some were tricky.

In Art, we have been learning about using line to create a pattern.  We created an image of a face with crazy hair to show all the different types of lines we could create.

In RERC we have been learning about St Andrew as it was the feast day of Saint Andrew this week.  Ask us about some facts we know about St Andrew.

In our pupil participation groups we have created a image or mascot for our group.  We had to work together to create the image.

This week we have also started to learn some new songs for a carol concert.  We are very excited as we will get to share these songs with our school community and parents.

We had a great week in P2, see what we did below :)

We were doing some handwriting and later to see if our handwriting has improved, we wrote about our weekends and practised our spelling words. We wrote about our dream holiday and the one we liked best from the past as well as learning how to write info reports – it was really interesting! We also learned an important part of writing – similes and metaphors. We now know their meanings and how to use them (e.g. She is a star (metaphor) He is as tall as a tree (simile)).

We revised our division and taking away, tall things and smaller things. Shorter things and longer things etc.

In RE we were learning about Mary and the Holy Spirit as well as having a class discussion on the importance of prayers.

We were outside a lot since the weather was beautiful! Sports day was amazing too, we danced in class. We also did some posters about moving to P3 and we discovered that it is a great way of finding out how we feel about things.

Have a lovely weekend – one more week to go!

Kind regards,

Mrs Koziel

Great week in P2!

In maths, we have been reviewing some of the knowledge gained in P2 e.g. adding using a 100 square, multiplying, dividing, subtracting, positive and negative numbers on the number line and much more…

In literacy, we have been drawing and writing cards for Father’s day, and we know now a new sound ‘e-e’, for example : these, here, eve, Steve, complete, even. Like every week, we were practising our handwriting too! This time we were focusing on the letters Ee and Ff.

In Spanish, we were learning how to say and write the days of the week and months of the year, it was a little tricky but we did great.

During our HWB lesson and our topic ‘Healthy body- healthy mind,’ we were learning about how important it is to regularly exercise. We also had a dance competition – it was good fun!

In PE we had a wonderful time playing dodge ball, also we did our ‘mile a day’ almost every day as the weather was beautiful!

In science we were learning about some small creatures, we know that insects have 6 legs, female mosquitoes bite people as well as other animals, and we know that our world could not exist without bees!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Mrs Koziel

Lots of work in P2!

In maths, we were revising our knowledge about kilograms and grams and taking away whilst using a 100 square to help us. We were also doing number talks where we used 10 frames to help us and we practised the partitioning strategy.

In literacy, we did our spelling test! We were all a little bit nervous but we think that it went well 🙂         We also wrote our weekend news and we presented our stories with Scottish words.

We continued our mini-beast hunt! It was really fun! We also know that a food chain consists of producers, prey, predators and consumers.

In RE we were learning about Corpus Christi as you know, this Sunday is the feast of Corpus Christi.

Lastly, we took part in some races for sports day – we love to exercise!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Mrs Koziel

Yet another busy week in P2!

In maths, we were revising our knowledge about acute, obtuse and right angles. We also learned about greater than >, less than < and equal to =, signs and we used these to help us compare the sizes of different angles. As well as that, we were learning about kilograms and grams. We were using a scale to check how heavy various objects are. We were counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and to help us with number talks, we used ten frames.

In literacy, we were writing our senses poem about spring and because we were learning about onomatopoeia (words that describe different sounds e.g. woof, bang, ping etc.), we included that in our poem too. Of course, we practised our handwriting too and practised the second hundred’s fry’s words. Some of our pupils presented the stories they wrote at home, those stories were special as they had to contain Scottish words.

In R.E., we were learning about the miracles performed by Jesus and we watched bible stories about that.

There are many living things around us, and not all of them are humans. For science, we went on a minibeast hunt! It was so fun! We used a magnifying glass to get a closer look at the little creatures and marked them off on our worksheets. We’ll continue the work next week. 🙂

For health and wellbeing, we were talking about good friendships, what they are made up of and what skills we need to possess to be a good friend.

We all know how important it is to have lots of exercises. For P.E. Mr Muldoon took us outside and we were throwing bean bags!

Kind Regards,

Mrs Koziel

P3/2 hard at work

P3/2 have had a busy term both at home and in school.  We have been working very hard since we returned to school.  Keep reading to find out what we have been doing.

In Numeracy and Mathematics, we have been learning about time over the last few weeks.  We have been reading the time on digital and analogue clocks. We took our learning outside and played times outdoors as well as indoors.  In number talks we have been trying to think of the most efficient strategy for addition problems.

In Literacy, we had been learning about poetry and the features in a poem.  We even managed to write our own poems about sounds. This week we worked with Mrs Scott to learn about Narrative story writing.  We know that you need a title, orientation, complication and resolution.  We created our own stories about a Little Hippo. We also learned more about self assessing our writing.  We know that we should check our writing targets and re-read our work to ensure we have covered all of our targets.

We have revised our class charter and discussed our rights as a child.  We know that we have rights and can list these rights. As a class we discussed Sustainable Development Goals and we decided that we would look at the Goal of Life on Land (number 15). We are going to try and make sure that we reduce litter in the playground. We thought if we continue to eat our snacks indoors that will reduce litter and we could organise a litter pick in the playground to keep the litter from building up in the playground.

We have been learning about the Egyptians this term.  We know why the River Nile is important, who Egyptian Pharaohs are, how they built pyramids and lived.  We also created a model of a pyramid and a shaduf as STEM challenges.  We have been reading books about Egyptians and mummies. We created beautiful art work of the pyramids and pharaohs.  We also learned to write our names in hieroglyphics.

In our RERC lesson we have been learning about choices, forgiveness and saying sorry.  The children in our class who are preparing for Reconciliation have been learning more about forgiveness and learning the Act of Sorrow prayer.

In Health and Wellbeing we have been learning about friendship.  We know the good qualities friends should have and what good friendships look like.  We discussed the importance of eye contact, turn taking and listening.  We played different games to help us with turn taking.

P2 Weekly Update.

We are finishing our seventh week of home learning. We did a fantastic job as usual. Have a look at what we have done.

To broaden our knowledge of literacy we used Oxford Owl and read a book of our choice aloud with the excellent expression. Then we answered blooms questions.

We were practising our spelling words in pyramid writing. Then we logged into Sumdog and completed the spelling challenge set.

Also, we created poems about Spring, using our senses.

In addition, we were practising our handwriting by writing our addresses.

Knowing how to add numbers is a very important life skill. So for maths, we revised addition by playing games, filling worksheets and completing the Sumdog challenges the teachers had set for us.

Que clima hace hoy? What is the weather today? In Spanish, we were learning about weather vocabulary. It is good to know other languages.

We did research online about living creatures that live in our local Union Canal.

Capturing spring on a piece of paper may not be easy for everyone but for our young artistic minds it was ‘easy peasy lemon squeezy’.

May is the month of Mary so we discussed with members of our families why we honour Mary so much. As well as that we watched videos from the Bible Beginners channel on YouTube.

‘Who we are and what we are good at is not fixed.’ All of us are unique and we all have different talents but that does not mean that we cannot get better at things. We looked back at all the skills we have learnt since the time we were born.

Here is what some of our pupils said:

‘I did my missing numbers within 50 without a chart!!’

‘Still loving my sum’s more than writing but love learning different subjects’

‘Working hard in my writing, I think you will be impressed with the amount I have written and how many WOW words I’ve used during home school’

Primary 2 have been working very hard at home. Have a look at our blog to see what we have been learning in this short week…

In literacy, we have revised our common words to help us consistently spell them correctly.

We used the  Oxford Owl website to explore a variety of books and write a summary about what happened in the book we read.

We have also written about our feelings in our jotters. We wrote about how we feel spending so much time at home.

In maths, we have been learning about estimation. We have had some worksheets where we had to guess what number should fill the blank space on the number line. We also played some math games using the new skill of estimating.

One of the subjects in school is to learn another language. Since we are learning at home, we asked our parents for permission to have an account on Duolingo to help us uphold the knowledge of Spanish and take it to the next level.

Creativity is in everyone. It is also in all the children of P2! To use our talents and imagination, we gathered different materials and created a unique picture of what WE think spring looks like.

As May begins, we are going to try to have a better relationship with Mary the Mother of God and God himself- Our Father, by praying to them every day in our own words.

Making the right choices in our day – to – day eating can sometimes be difficult. Luckily, we know exactly what to do because we have been cutting out food and putting it on a paper plate to make a healthy meal for ourselves. This will help us to know exactly how to eat healthy in the future.

Thank you for the lovely pictures we have received so far. Remember to keep sending us pictures of your amazing work.

Take care everyone and have a nice and safe weekend

Mrs Alexander and Mrs Koziel

P2 Home Learning

Here is what we have been up to this week…

In literacy, we have been revising sounds that we have learned so far using pyramid writing.

We were upskilling our sentences by trying to add WOW words to them and writing a letter to our teacher about what we have been doing during lockdown.

We also completed a book review on one of our favourite books from home.

In Maths, we have been practising subtraction using different materials we found at home e.g. pasta, pencils, blocks. We also completed a subtraction worksheet and played games online.

To develop our Spanish we used videos from YouTube to remind us how to say the colours, numbers and months of the year.

For science, we continued to learn about Forces. We have been exploring different objects that we can push and pull at home and at school.

In Art, we were learning to use textures by finding different materials at home e.g. wool, string, pasta, buttons, feathers etc. to create a picture.

We continued to develop our fitness by completing a Body Coach workout on YouTube.

We reflected with our families about why we should be thankful to God and wrote down 3 things we were thankful for. We also said our own prayers of thanks to God.

Primary 6 Home Learning Week

Primary 6 have been very busy this week with our online learning.

Maths – The pupils have been learning division and how to deal with remainders.  They’ve used Division Wheels, Division Jigsaws, Division Dominoes.  They’ve also tried Division Word Problems to add breadth to their learning.  They can see the relationship between multiplication and division more clearly now.

Scottish Wars of Independence Topic – Primary 6 have done a lot of fun work with their topic this week.                                                                        Imaginative Writing – this took the form of an adventure story of a hero in the year 1315 in Bannockburn whilst a war was raging.  The pupils were given a starter idea for the story and they produced some great writing for this.                                                                                  Report Style Writing– this took the form of assuming the role of a Newsround reporter interviewing Robert The Bruce about his life.      Portrait Art– the pupils were asked to look at various images of Robert The Bruce from the internet, money, images from movies, history books and art galleries.  They then followed an online portrait art lesson to learn tips and techniques and then produced their own Robert the Bruce portraits with fantastic results.

Collage Art – the pupils were asked to create an outline profile of themselves and fill the inside of it with collage art – cut out images and words from magazines that hopefully represented themselves.  The children were given extra support by watching an online art lesson for this.  What a talented group P6 are.  The results were excellent.

Health and Wellbeing – the children used a map of Broxburn to help plan a safe cycle route.  Consideration was to be given to roads, canal and pedestrians.  Again, great ideas and problem solving from Primary 6.

Well done Primary 6! We are very proud of your dedication to completing your tasks and thank you to our supportive parents too.

Kacper – we have been researching women in engineering  and writing about why they are important and what they invented.  I researched Victoria Drummond.  She was the first woman Marine Engineer.

Numeracy and Mathematics

We have been learning about compass directions and angels.  We learned some rhymes to help us remember the directions –

  • never eat smelly wellies
  • never eat shredded wheat.

We have been learning about different turns and even went outside to direct each other around the playground.

Max – we have been learning to multiply two digit numbers by two digit numbers. It is quite tricky but with practice I can do it!

Christy – We had visitors from Stirling council to see us doing a number talks lessons about multiplication.  We can break factors into smaller factors to help us in number talks.

Leo – We have been measuring the length of different things in and around the school.  We estimated then measured the objects.

Other areas:

Ciaran – we have been creating titanic quizzes and fact files as we are finishing the topic.

We had a theater production about Simon, Martin and Sharon.  It was all performed by one man. It was called Pondlife.  It was very good and entertaining.  We were amazed that the man could perform more than one character.

In Religious education we looked at the seven sacraments and when people receive them.

Max – we have been practicing the hymns for the Stations of the Cross and took our class picture for the Stations of the Cross service next Wednesday. We used the green screen.

Leo – we went to the Church and Father Frances led us through the Stations of the Cross.

Sam – in P.E we have been skipping – we have been learning jumping skipping,  running skipping and hopping skipping.  Some people tried cross over skipping.

Today was ‘Feel Good Friday’ and we designed our own happiness t-shirts.

P5’s weekly reflection

We have had a busy week in P5b.  This week we have been continuing with Multiplication in Number talks and in our Numeracy lessons.  In Number talks we have used the strategy partial products this week and also used friendly numbers, doubling and halving and repeated addition. Mrs Heather came into class and worked with us on Thursday. In Numeracy we have worked on the formal written method of multiplication.

Marwa – there are different ways to do the written.

Mirin – this method is easier than a vertical sum for me.

We have practiced this week and are getting really good at it. In maths with Mrs Renshaw we have started to  looked at measure and started to estimate the length.

In Literacy we have completed spot the silly word in two different pieces of writing.

Sam – one was a job advert and the other was about Harry Potter.  Phoebe – you need to read the whole piece then look for words that don’t make sense.

Paula – we have continued with literacy circles and are improving with our group discussions and peer assessments.

In writing we wrote a diary entry about when the Titanic hit the iceberg.

Max – In a diary you must discuss your feelings.

Connor – you must use ‘I’ when writing a diary entry. It also has to be in the present tense.

In Health and Well being we looked at advertising and how companies advertise products to get people to buy them  We discuses different strategies like buy one get one free, half price, toys in boxes and tokens to collect.

Ellie –  We then created our own cereals and next week we will create an advert for our cereal.

Sam – we also discussed what makes a good friend and created a ‘wordle’ about friends. Some of the things we think they need to be are- kind, caring, honest and trustworthy.

In our Titanic topic we created adverts for Titanic. We talked about communication on board the Titanic and how important it was. We also looked at the technology on the Titanic. We also completed a cross section of what was inside the Titanic looked like and looked at where things were placed for first and third class passengers.

We also visited the library this week and had a look for Titanic books.

These are only some of the things we have covered this week.  What a busy week!

Seasons for Growth

St Nicholas are offering the P6 and P7 pupils the opportunity to participate in our Seasons for Growth programme this term. Seasons for Growth is a programme devised to help children to cope with changes in their family through loss or bereavement. The programme was developed in Australia over 20 years ago and is used across the globe to support the emotional wellbeing of young people. We hope to offer the programme to other age groups in the coming months.

P5b’s week

Primary 5 have had a busy week.  Here are some of the things we have been doing and learning.

Mirin – this week we made an emotions timeline thinking about how we felt at different points in our lives.

Marwa – we started to learn about the Titanic.

Ciaran – we learned that the Titanic was on her the first trip from Southampton to Nee York.

Daniel – we thought about we what know and what we want to learn during the topic.

Lucas – we have continued to practice our cursive script.

Max – we started to look at the timeline of events that led to the sinking of the Titanic.

Mirin – we typed our learners statements and shared them on Teams for our parents to see.

Sam – we reviewed our guided reading books.

Phoebe – we went to the library and read to the nursery children.

Marwa – we completed our entries for the engineering competition. Good luck everyone!

Paula – we went to Broxburn Academy to play Handball.

Leo – we were learning how to use the halving and doubling strategy in number talks.

P5’s busy week

We have had a busy week in Primary 5.  Here are some of the things we have been learning  this week.

Leo – We have been learning about storytelling as this is NAtional Storytelling Week and we watched David Walliams talking about his novels.

Ellie – We have been learning about the 7 times table and practicing our other times tables.

Cerys – We have drawing entries for the art competition and also designing inventions to make life easier for the engineering competition.

Paula – We have been learning about the brain.  Your brain connects to your nerves and tells you what to do.

Ciaran – We have been practicing our tables and looking at different strategies for learning the facts we find tricky.

Mirin – We have photographed our latest and best pieces of Numeracy and Literary and tried to use teams to post them.

Poppy and Leo- We have been talking about our reflexes and we were holding each others’ shoulder to see how quick our hand reacted and squeezed the other person’s shoulder.  We also tried this with hands so see if it was quicker than our shoulders.  Shoulder reflexes were quicker as the shoulder is closer to our brain.

Erin – We worked on our estimation skills with Mrs Heather.  We learned that our guesses have to be reasonable.

Alexander – We have been thinking about our learning and completed our learners statements.

Leo – We were having learners conversations and talking about what we are good at and what we need to work on.

Ciaran – we have been completing our health and well-being check in and today is feel good Friday.

Phoebe – Mr Menzies came into school to read us a story for storytelling week.

Smokey Sue Visits Primary 7

Today after lunch, P7a had a visit from the West Lothian Drug and Alcohol Service. They let us know about the dangers of smoking, and how it affects our bodies, as well as the drugs in the actual cigarettes like nicotine, tar and carbon monoxide. We found out there are between 4000-5000 chemicals in each cigarette.

Smoking 055 Smoking 050 Smoking 052Today we done an experiment with Smoky Sue! Smoky Sue  is a plastic doll with no arms and no legs and really showed us how cigarettes effect our lungs.During the experiment we lit a cigarette outside and pumped the doll so she could breath in the smoke. After the experiment we examined the liquid that would be in her lungs from clear tap water to yellow tar water. This showed us what is going into our lungs if we smoke.

After we played a game to talk about how we might react in situations where we might feel pressure to smoke. This helped us to see what we could do if these situations arise in the future.

So far we have really enjoyed learning about the effects of smoking and are working on some ‘Stop Smoking’ posters. These posters might even be featured in the local health center to encourage people to stop smoking,

Basketball Festival P7

On Monday 16th November P7a and P7b went to Broxburn Academy to participate in a local basketball festival. Schools from the Broxburn cluster attended and played against each other . We all thoroughly enjoyed it  and hope to do it again in the future. In fact we enjoyed it that much that some of us have signed up to attend an after school basketball club.

Tobacco Education

DSCF2365The Scottish Government Tobacco Control Strategy’s target for 2034 is to have less than 5% of the Scottish population to be smoking. They are hoping by then that it will be normal NOT to smoke. Some of our families have chosen to support the Smoke Free Homes and Zones Project.
Many thanks to Janet and Alison for all their input.

Going for Cold! Junior Great Winter Run

Well done to all members of the St Nicholas Running After School Club.  They braved the elements on Saturday afternoon in Holyrood Park in Edinburgh to run the 2.5K Junior Great Winter Run.  All children were great sports – they ran their very best and some great times were recorded. We are very proud of them all.

Special thanks to our local business community – Piggy Print, Waz’s Newsagents and West Lothian Construction – who sponsored the children and paid for their entrance fees.  Thanks also to all our parents who supported us cheerfully, in the freezing rain, sleet and mud!

2014 St Nicholas Commonwealth Games!

What a fantastic day at the St Nicholas 2014 Commonwealth games! Primary 5,6 and 7 came together in an opening ceremony to celebrate their chosen Commonwealth country and preformed some wonderful cultural displays of song and dance from South Africa, Malaysia and Canada.

After a short break, for a BBQ lunch, pupils then took to the courts to display the skills that they had learned in their chosen sports of rugby, netball and hockey.  Each country played their final games in a play off format and the winning teams were presented with their medals in the closing ceremony.

Primary 5,6 and 7 would like to say a massive thank you to all the parents, grandparents and friends who turned out to cheer us on and share in our learning today. We would also like to say a huge thank you to James Pegg and everyone at the Albyn Park who helped make today such a success.

Primary Five Experience… APARTHEID

Article 41

You have the right to any rights in laws in your country or internationally that give you better rights than these

On Sunday the 27th April, South Africa celebrated 20 years since the end of apartheid when Nelson Mandela became the first black president following his 27 years spent in prison for fighting against this segregation. Apartheid happened for many years in South Africa and was when people with different colours of skin were not allowed to be together. The country had separate schools, banks, buses and even laws for white people and non white people. People who were not white were treated very unfairly.

To gain a better understanding of apartheid and how unfair and unjust it was, last week primary 5 actually experienced it first hand!

We had a long discussion about equal rights and how unfair it is when people are discriminated against, we agreed that everyone no matter who you are should be treated equally and everyone is entitled to their rights. To gain a better understanding of what it would have been like to live in South Africa during apartheid we were separated into 2 groups. People that were born in January to June were in group one and people born in July to December were in group two. We talked about how we didn’t get to choose what month we were born in, just like babies do not get to choose the colour of their skin, eyes or hair, or the country they are born in, who their parents are or if they have a disability.

Then we were told the ‘Apartheid Laws’ for the day. People that were born in the first half of the year were treated fairly but the laws for the people born in the second half of the year were very different…

A person born between July to December…

  • could not sit with or play with people born between January and June
  • could only play in one small area of the playground
  • had to work until the bell
  • could not take part in class discussions
  • went last for break and lunch
  • had to ask permission to use classroom resources
  • could not receive stickers, rewards and points
  • had to wear an identity badge at all times

Children who were born in the first half of the year wore bibs so both groups could be easily identified.

Children born in the second half of the year were not treated fairly at all, during P.E. even though they won the curling game 7-2, the teachers insisted that the other team won. It made the people in group 2 very frustrated! The unfairness also had an effect on children in group 1 who felt guilty and were angry that people were being treated so differently. We stopped throughout the day and we shared how we were feeling, it gave us a real insight into what life would have been like during apartheid.

On day two the groups swapped over so everyone had a chance to experience both sides of apartheid.

At half past two on Thursday we stopped our segregated P.E lesson and celebrated the end of apartheid and a very challenging couple of days. We scrunched up our idneitity badges and threw our bibs in the air and danced around the hall with our friends who we had been separated from for two days. This was a very valuable lesson, we vowed to always treat each other equally, never to discriminate and to stand up to injustice and unfairness.

Primary 6 would like to say a massive well done to Fraser Morris who competed in the Scottish Schools Primary School Cross Country on Saturday 19th of March.  He did extremely well and finished 5th out of 113 P6 boys who were entered for the race. Also Fraser competed 2Km Easter fun run at Beecraigs and won that race! All of Primary 6 are very proud and look forward to hearing about future races.

Primary 6 would also like to say well done to Rachael Brown who passed her Musical theatre dance exam!

Primary 6 Visit Edinburgh Zoo!

Article 17

Adults should make sure that the information we are getting is not harmful and help us to find and understand the information we need.

On Thursday P6A and P6B went to Edinburgh Zoo to learn about different life cycles of animals. We saw loads of different animals, from monkeys and apes to the giant pandas. We visited the education centre where we meet Kirsty who talked to use about the differences between mammals and fish and how they bring up their young. We also talked about the different stages in each animals life cycle.

In the afternoon we got a really treat as we visited giant pandas and to our surprise they were awake and moving about. One of the keepers told us that over 2000 people came to see them every day. We also got to visit the new meerkat enclosure and hiked up the big hills to see the Lions and Zebra.

My highlight of the day was seeing the monkeys and the pandas. In the pandas enclosure there was a TV showing the pandas doing different things, at one point it even showed one of the pandas doing a forward roll. The trip to the zoo was very fun and it was interesting learning about all of the different animals and how they live.

Judo Taster!

On Tuesday 22 of April p6 had a taste of the commonwealth sport Judo. The Judo teacher was very funny and the activities were really fun. We learned that speed and strength are very important in Judo and we even got to throw our partners.

Ellie thought it was very fun and different.

Gregor thought the judo was epic and awesome.

Rachael Brown thought it was fabulous.

Some of us are even thinking of joining.

Basketball Team

St Nicholas Basketball team had another successful day at the monthly schools basketball meet in Deans Community High school. We are currently in 3rd place in the Elite league but are only 1 point behind Williamston primary who are league leaders. Coach Hazel was happy with the effort of her players but said she will have to work on shooting accuracy which cost the team dear against Williamston in a very tight game.
