P6/7 News of the Week

It has been another busy week in P6/7. The Christmas post is now underway and P7’s from both classes are enjoying collecting, organising and delivering the Christmas cards to all of the classes in school.

Social dance is coming on very well, with everyone now becoming quite familiar with the steps for a number of the Scottish dances. Mrs Stewart and Mrs Ferguson came along and joined in the practice and Mrs Stewart said that she can’t wait to get her dance card filled. Not long to wait now to put all that practice into action!

P7s have started working in their groups to create travel brochures for different countries who will be taking part in the Commonwealth Games next year. This event is part of the transition project  which was launched just a week ago at James Young High School.

In class, we have been finding out about the structure of the Earth. We have done our research using books and the internet and can’t wait to make our models showing all of the different layers of our planet and the facts we’ve learned.

We have been trying to make sure that we can all get on Glow and everyone who managed to e-mail Mrs Balfour got 50 house points. Some people have still got to try it out.

Congratulations to Mark and Hannah-Beth who were voted this week’s buddies of the week. Congratulations also to our new class champions- Rachel (language) and Jack (maths).

P6s are looking forward to a Bubblegum and Fluff event at the Lanthorn next week and are looking forward to it.

P7a News

Here is a selection of P7a’s highlights this week.

The Christmas postbox has been put out and pupils can post cards to their friends which P7’s will sort and deliver.  Please remember to write on the class which the card is to be delivered too!

We have been using VCOP to help improve our writing.  V is for vocabulary, C is for connectives, O is for openers and P is for punctuation.

P7 have been busy practising our social dance skills and are looking forward to the party on 17th December.

We have been using Blooms Taxonomy to help our thinking skills in reading.

On the 3rd December we had our Christmas lunch and it was delicious! Thank you to all the dinner staff for feeding us well!

We have started working on our travel leaflets for our Commonwealth transition project.  We began designing front cover ideas and researching facts about our country.

We have been working on creative dance with Ms Barr in music and are working on a movement dance to Jingle Bells.

Our topic is based on ‘Our World’ and we are enjoying learning about why we have day and night and the seasons.  We have found out some interesting facts that we didn’t know and have learned about the structure of the earth.

Last week our 3 star writers were Holly, Bethany and Reece.  Well done!

FACT OF THE WEEK (As suggested by Natalie!)

Did you know that it take 365.24 days for the earth to orbit the sun?

Launch of P7 Commonwealth Transition Project

Today, all the P7’s from all the JYHS cluster primaries were invited along to JYHS for the exciting launch of the commonwealth games transition project.  The children met Mrs  Hatch, the headteacher of the JYHS and were also introduced to Mr Bell who is co-ordinating the project.  The P7’s from Bankton represented their school very well and enjoyed meeting children from the other P7 classes.  Everyone has come back talking about some new friends that they have made and about how much they enjoyed their morning.  Now the challenge of creating a travel brochure for their assigned countries will begin!  Everyone is looking forward to the next transition event.  Well done P7.
