Celebrating Wider Achievement with Headteacher Awards

Tiger Woods must be extremely worried now that Fraser and Ailsa Muir are developing their golfing skills to medal standard! This very modest brother & sister duo had to be persuaded to share their success by Mrs Ferguson. We are extremely proud of their sporting skills development and hope that this is only the start of a great golfing career in the future.

Our P.4 and P.5 dancers had another triumph last week at Howden Park Centre when their Next Steps Dance Troupe took the first place trophy for amazing Hip Hop moves. They were very proud to share their success at assembly and posed for a photo ‘with attitude’

A very talented P.1 writer came to my office to share her 3 part Pirate Adventure this week – full of wow words she had ‘sounded’ herself in sentences with capital letters and full stops. Move over J.K. Rowling – Lauren is making real progress in her writing!

Easter Greetings to all our Families

Happy Easter to all of our Bankton children, parents and staff. I hope the sun shines for all of you and you enjoy your family time.

The end of term was an exciting and happy time for all of us, with two amazing performances of the school show, ‘Edith’s Wartime Scrapbook’, declared to be ‘the best yet’ by our parents and special guests. Well done to all involved. The full version of the show was professionally filmed and uploaded to YouTube by Eddie Anderson. Check it out for some holiday entertainment making sure you include FULL VERSION in the search. A DVD will be produced in due course.

I also enjoyed the final day where I had lots of Easter visitors – bonnets galore from the Nursery. We also celebrated Mr. Walker’s ‘big’ birthday with a powerpoint tribute from the children and managed to make him cry!

March Newsletter uploaded to the BLOG – check out important info about Online Payment Project.

Artists in Residence

Many thanks to Sam and Pam (Mum and Gran of Stephanie & Gemma Townsend) who have generously shared their time to create a wonderful backdrop for our school show: ‘Edith’s Wartime Scrapbook’. The scene depicts the Blitz and will add extra creativity to this amazing show. Tickets are now on general sale from the school office priced £2. Don’t miss it – but remember to bring your tissues as it can be very emotional! See you there!

Sensational Scientists @ the JYHS Science Fair

Congratulations to our P.7 Scientists who presented their projects with confidence and flair at the Science Fair on Monday night. The Science Fair was an excellent way to showcase their skills of predicting, experimenting and evaluating. Thank you also to the parents and families who came to encourage our P.7s – it was great to share our learning with you. We were very proud when Fraser Muir was awarded 1st Prize for his mould experiment, based around the question:

‘Mum, do I really have to wash my hands?’

The answer was a definite YES!!!

Titanic Science Skills in P.6

Miss Lovett, P.6 Student teacher, delivered an exciting Science lesson today on mass and density in P.6. The class worked well in collaborative groups to predict, check and evaluate their ‘Egg speriment’ and report on their findings.

They then helped Mrs Stewart to evaluate the lesson saying:

‘Miss Lovett is very well organised’

‘She uses humour in her lessons’

‘She values your answers and gives good feedback’

‘She gave clear instructions for the experiment’

Positive feedback from pupils Miss Lovett – well done!

World Book Day in P.4/5

I thoroughly enjoyed working with P.4/5 on our Gangsta Granny Extravaganza. Everyone enjoyed hearing the two short extracts from the book and watching the video clip where David Walliams shared his tips to become a good writer. There was a menu of activities to choose from including:

A profile of Gangsta Granny / Ben’s Heist Plan / SWAG bags full of jewels / Book cover designs

P.4/5 were completely engaged with these activities and impressed me with their skills.

Thank you also to the teachers who dressed up for World Book Day and to Hannah who delivered my fruit – dressed as Elsa.
