Andy Murray Watch Out!

Primary one had a fabulous opportunity today when they were given a taste of the skills needed for playing tennis.  Coach Ian complimented the children on how hard they had worked and on how well they were controlling the tennis balls.  Josh showed off his knowledge when he confidently named some tennis players and Jason was really impressed by coach Ian’s skills saying that he was awesome!  The children are very much looking forward to session two next week.     100_3719100_3727100_3722100_3726100_3720

The Dragon Returns!!

Yesterday P1 were shocked to find that the friendly fairyland dragon had been back for a visit.  This time, he left a letter complimenting our beanstalk and also left all of the children a present.  The children now all have a castles book which the dragon has asked them to write in and tell him about how they are getting on with turning the classroom into fairyland.  Keep an eye out for the beantstalk photos coming soon.  Also, good luck to Mrs Ferguson on her personal challenge of climbing our beanstalk to see what’s at the top!!!!

P1a’s Surprise Visitor

P1a had a shock on Thursday morning when they came into the classroom to find some big, green glittery footprints leading from near the window over to the library corner.  After closer inspection, Jason found a letter sitting on a chair in the library and upon reading the letter we found that it was from a friendly dragon.  He has asked for P1a’s help in turning our classroom into Fairyland as his home has disappeared.  P1a have already written back to the dragon to explain that they would love to help and we have begun thinking about how to turn our classroom into Fairyland!

Christmas is Coming!

It’s hard to believe that there are only two school days left before we finish for the Christmas holidays.  December has been a very busy month for P1 with our nativity rehearsals and performances, Christmas dinner, Christmas crafts and of course our Christmas party where Santa took time out of his busy schedule to drop off a little gift for all the children since they have been working so hard!  We are looking forward to the parents coming to join us for the Carol service on Monday and then to having a little rest over the Christmas Holidays.  Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to all.

Snowy Fun

We have had fun playing out in the snow today.  Ayla liked building snowmen.  Kieran enjoyed making ice men with his friends.  Josh made lots of hand and foot prints in the snow.  Samantha and Sarah did some ice skating while Izaak and Alexander busily worked to make an ice gate!  Daniel enjoyed making a snow angel and Matthew even practised writing his letters and numbers in the snow!  We are all back in our warm classroom now and are ready for our milk and a Christmas story.

Our last term at Bankton

It’s hard to believe that we are now in our last term at Bankton.  This week we have started reading over the script for our show ‘Pirates of the Currybean’ and are attempting to get to grips with our roles.  We’ve finished our WWII project and are now beginning our work on The Commonwealth which is our transition topic.  Next week we are looking forward to health/eco week and have lots of interesting activities planned like street dance, acro gymnastics, fencing, a waste audit and we will even be trying out our cheerleading skills!  We would also like to say a big congratulations to Maria in our class who was selected as one of 9 winners in the West Lothian ‘My Scotland Now’ competition.  Well done!

P7a – World War II in pictures!

Lots of fun was had during P6 & P7’s World War II day.  The costumes were fantastic and the children worked very hard as they participated in a number of different activities such as make do and mend (sewing buttons onto fabric), making hats and bunting out of old paper to celebrate V.E. day, baking some war time recipes (thank you Mrs Reilly) and digging for victory in the garden to name but a few!  Rations of bread and jam were provided for snack (thanks to Mary in the kitchen who helped with these) and there was the odd square of chocolate to keep energy levels up too.  Thanks also go to our parent helpers who helped with the gardening.  Here are a few photos of our fun filled day.

P6 & 7 Supermarket Capers

Some people from P6 & 7 were luckily enough to have the opportunity to go on an exciting tour around parts of Asda that only staff usually have access too.  We were given lots of facts and learned lots of things that we didn’t know.  It was very interesting and our tour guides, Donna and Karen, were excellent.   They even gave us some pancakes and a pizza to bring back to school and eat.  Mrs Reilly kindly heated up the pizza in the afternoon and we all really enjoyed it!  Here are some photos of our exciting tour:

P7’s Busy Busy Week!

P7a have been very busy this week.  We have began making our gas masks and will finish these next week.  We have also been working on our personal projects and Mrs Lloyd is looking forward to having a look at the work that has been completed so far.

Today we have been bag packing at Asda to raise money for the bus for our school camp.  When all the money has been counted we will keep you up to date with how much we collected.

Also this week, Sleep Scotland came into school and have been teaching us all about the importance of sleep.  We have a sleep diary to fill in and will be using this next lesson.

Fact of the Week: Did you know that you grow while you are sleeping?
