Every Day is a Learning Day!!

All children in P1 – P6 will be coming home today with a calendar of challenges to do each day of the holidays.  Each time they complete a challenge (in any order) cross it off, and after the holidays they can bring their sheet to me and receive a reward!  They don’t need to do every challenge, just as many as they can manage.

Well done to all of the awesome Bankton dancers who took part in the Dance Festival today!

The confidence of the children was amazing and they certainly know how to move!!!!

The Primary Sevens have had a very productive week continuing their WW2 project.

We have made Anderson Shelters – Well Done Cassie, Emma and Liam who had the winning model.

It was a hard decision for Mrs Stewart and Mrs Murdoch as all of the models were excellent!!  Look out for them on display in school.

We have also been learning about Morse code, and have been trying very hard to decipher messages by listening to the beeps and dashes, which has proven to be very difficult!     .-/…     -.–/—/..-      -.-./.-/-.       …/./.

We have been looking at the different types of aircraft used in WW2 and investigated the markings on the planes.  Did you know that the Spitfire can fly at 584 km/h!!!  Amazing!

We even found some time for some war time baking!

As well as all of this the P7 have been a great help to Mrs Stewart, Alex and the Nursery to P3 classes with all of the help they have offered them!  So much so, we won the goblet of good manners this week!!  Great job!!!

We finished the week with a film quiz!  Won by Steven, Katie and Stephanie – with full marks no less!!!  And a bit of well deserved R&R with a film and pop corn!!

There are lots of fab free events for children going on in libraries across West Lothian this weekend to celebrate National Libraries Day!

Thank you very much to all of our families who came along and enjoyed a session with their child/children in school to look at how and what we learn in Support for Learning Groups.  The sessions have been a great success and most importantly the children have really loved them!  Keep the feedback forms coming in so we can make them even better next time!

We have been very busy with our enterprise project.  We have written very persuasive letters to Mrs Stewart asking if we can borrow money.  We have talked about profit!  And most importantly we have been busy making some wonderful gifts to sell at the Nativity! In maths we have been learning about money and we are getting really good at counting it!.  We were learning about the vowel house, which the children will be bringing home to practise next week.

We have been very busy in P3 this week!

We have started our enterprise topic and have transformed into little elves to make lots of goodies to sell at this years Nativity.  We have been working out profits and costing goods in our cooperative teams!  We have also been learning about money in maths and are getting good at recognizing and adding up coins.  We will be continuing this for the next few weeks, which gives parents and carers a great opportunity to develop this at home by playing games with coins of looking at costs of goods in the supermarket etc.

In science we have been busy learning about magnetism.   The children amazed me with how quickly they developed their understanding of the scientific vocabulary we looked at.  We talked about the push and pull forces, North and South poles, attraction and repulsion and metals that attract magnets and those that don’t.  The children had great fun exploring the magnets and using them to push other magnets across the table and making them spin around.  Watch out to see how this projects develops!

Our class Dojo is a great success, if you have not already logged on, have a look and talk to your children about all the wonderful things that they have been doing to earn their points!

Please remember winter coats for next week as it is getting cold outside!

We had our first chess club today, which was great!  We had some budding players and some children who had never played before.  We soon got the hang of it and played some good moves!  As you can see it all took a lot of concentration and tactics!!
