We are a GOLD Rights Respecting School!

Well done to everyone at Chatelherault who worked so hard on our journey to the Gold Rights Respecting Schools award.  A special thank you to our amazing Pupil Voice Group who have helped our school find ways to ensure children can learn about and enjoy their rights!

Pupil Council Meeting minutes 30th March

Pupil Council children met to discuss plans to develop our woodlands in our school as well as in our community at Meikle Burn.

Group: Pupil Council

Date: 30th March 2022

Points from previous meeting:

·  After meeting Chatelherault Rangers, we are going to look at developing out own woodlands within the school grounds.

· We will still aim to organise litter pick and site visit to Meikle Burn site to contribute to our community.

Main discussion points from today:

·  Mr Gilligan fed back main points from meeting with Mike (Chatelherault Park Ranger).

· Due to amount of work involved we would need multiple visits to Meikle Burn site, we are going to begin focussing on our own woodlands on school grounds to develop within our immediate community.

· We will look at our woods to see what issues we have and generate ideas on how to develop our woodlands.

· These ideas will be discussed at next meeting and we will begin to look at costs.

Focus Article:

Article 29: A child or young person’s education should help their mind, body and talents be the best they can. It should also build their respect for other people and the world around them.

Action Points:

Children to go back to class and ask classmates for ideas on how to further develop our woodlands.

Minute Taker: Mr Gilligan

OutRight 2021/22

This year, our school has participated in the 2021/22 OutRight Campaign.  The focus of the campaign has been children and young People’s mental health.  This was something we felt very strongly about participating in, particularly after the difficult lockdowns we had all experienced.

The children have enjoyed learning about the importance of their mental wellbeing, how it relates to their rights and what we can do to support mental wellbeing in school.  The children have been empowered to take actions and we have created a whole school mental health declaration! This is now on display for everyone to see and be reminded of the things we are doing and can do to help each other.
