Food and Farming posters

Look closely at our posters; what have we learned about Scottish food and the agriculture that produces it for us every day? Keep watching – more posters will be added.

Our topic didn’t have a name. We kept looking at the experiences and outcomes we were focussing on to take our learning forward. When we looked back at our learning we came up with the name Food and Farming. Perfect!

Tesco help us learn where our food comes from and much more

Pauline and Nicole from Tesco brought lots of foods for us to look at and to taste.

What did you taste?

mint leaves, pineapple and grapes – Alfie, Tara, Rachael

Where did the foods come from?

Spain,  Chile, South Africa,  Scotland – East Lothian, UK – Kent, Israel, Namibia – Cody, jay, Tara, Rachael, Alfie

How many cubes of sugar are in a can of Irn Bru?

9 cubes of sugar – Jay, Rachael

What did you learn from this experience?

Tara – Where my food comes from. Some foods travel a long way.

Cody – You should only have 4 cubes of sugar in a day if you are 7 or 8 years old. That’s less than 1 can of fizzy!

Alfie – how food gets farmed.

Thank you Pauline and Nicole

We made awesome cranachan

We made delicious Scottish cranachan (without the whisky)  for pudding at our Scottish Food tasting with P3.

It’s an easy but delicious desert. Toast the oats in a pan. Whip the cream, add honey and the toasted oats. Gently mix in raspberries. Chill. Serve with Scottish shortbread.

Finding the main idea when reading

We have been learning about the main idea. What helps us find the main idea? We look at the first sentence and last and the title in the  book.

by Rachael, Callum

Who else was in the group?

Callum, Joseph and Alfie have impressed us by finding the main idea of books at home and bringing this in to share with us. Fantastic !

Symmetry Art

We used our understanding of symmetry to create landscape

collages which show symmetry. These are all very different and

interesting. Super work P4/3 artists.

Watch this space as more are still to be finished.

What have you learned about symmetry?

We are learning our times tables

sam_2902

We have been working hard to remember our times tables. P4 are learning the 8, 6, 9 and 7 times tables. We learned them in this order because we made links with the tables we already knew ( 8 with 4, 6 with 3.) We found the 9 times table easy to learn. Why was that P4?

P3 have been learning the 2 linked with 4, 5 and 10 and the 3 times tables.

We play games – Buzz and games on laminated sheets, and sing songs to help us learn the stations of the tables.

We use playing cards 1 – 9 to help us keep to the right order when saying 0 x 5, 1 x 5, 2 x 5 etc

What helps you learn your tables?

We have racing tracks on display. Every time we learn a times table and know it well we add a number to our race track and our car moves forward.

Callum is the first person who has completed his race track for P3. Well done Callum.

Lucien impressed us all by saying his 9 times table really fast. Well done Lucien.

Our pit crew for helping in our race tracks are our parents. So please continue practising these at home and we’ll get our race tracks completed.
