We have had a very busy but fun Beltane week in P6.

We have had our very own flappy horse race. We also enjoyed our own fancy dress competition today.

The class have really enjoyed the community events organised by the Beltane Committee this week.

We are looking forward to Beltane Saturday tomorrow.

On Wednesday we had a great trip to Kelso to take part in a day planned by the inspire team. We used our I-pads to complete different activities and are looking forward to furthering these skills back in the classroom.
It was so nice to be on a trip out of the classroom after 2 years.

Our highlight of the week was welcoming parents back into the classroom. We had a great time showing off our photography skills and getting parents involved with the activities. The photos show the work we are most proud of today.

Thank-you to all the parents who made it in today.

Today, many of us came to school in fancy shoes to celebrate “shoesday” as part of walk to school week.  We had great fun.

What an excellent Final week in P6.

We completed our Volcano art and the pictures are below. They are excellent.

We were given a potato challenge, pictures of the progress of your potatoes can be added to the class teams page.

We completed a natural disasters  simulation where we had to prepare a settlement for an impending natural disaster using our knowledge from our topic. It was great fun.

We really enjoyed our final day, breaking the rules for April fools.

We have been given potatoes but will not be in school over the summer to look after them properly so we have created a class challenge.

Everyone has been given a potato to take home and plant. It can be planted in the main garden or even in a pot or bag.

1) Plant the potato about 5 inches under the soil and cover.

2) Water your potato regularly.

3) When the first leaves appear cover them with more soil. (This encourages more potatoes to grow.)

4) When you notice leaves appearing again cover them again with more soil. This will create a mound. Do this two or three times.

5) Continue to water during dry spells.

6) When the leaves start to die back the potatoes are ready to dig up. This should be around September time but it could be earlier.

**Take photos of the process as well as some photos of what you  make with your potatoes.**

This week has been great. We have really enjoyed the great weather at breaks and lunchtimes.

We have continued to learn about fractions and are now all able to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers and back again.

We have been continuing to look at natural disasters and this week we had to research our own choice. We will use what we learn to write our final explanation piece of writing next week.

We completed our final live lesson on coding where we learned to create a “whack-a-mole” game using scratch. We really enjoyed this and have since altered this game as we learn more about coding.

We have worked hard on our paper mache volcanoes. (Some progress pictures are below.) We are looking forward to finishing these next week. Some of our art work this term will be displayed in the corridor. This is a work in progress just now but we can’t wait to see the finished display.

This week we really enjoyed taking part in World Book Day Activities. We tested out book knowledge in a number of quizzes and we were challenged to design the front cover of a secret book after hearing the story. We really enjoyed reading stories to P1 on Thursday. We practised reading aloud with expression and created puppets to help the P1s really understand the story. It was so much fun.

In art we looked at “The Great Wave” by Hokusai and created our own version using paints. We really enjoyed it and the results look fantastic.

This week we have really enjoyed learning about earthquakes and will be finishing our writing based on this after the holidays.

We have used oil pastels and water colours to create art based on seismographs, the instrument that measures earthquakes. We have included some pictures below.

We have worked very hard to improve our skills in division and some of us were introduced to algebra.

We are looking forward to exploring natural disasters further after the holidays.
