Thursday 2nd April

Good morning everyone, we are missing you all lots! We can see that lots of you are trying hard with your online learning and are using the tasks we have set on Sumdog and on the Sharepoint.  Well done, we are so proud of you all.  Your physical and mental health is also very important and I want you to make sure you are taking regular breaks and getting some fresh air, even if it is just enjoying some time in your garden or going for a short walk with your family. Why not try today’s challenge! Make patterns with things you find outside. You can post your pictures on the comment feed on Sharepoint.

Have a great day and stay safe

Parent/Pupil Information

Parent Information

I am going to create a parent information tab at the top of the blog.  This will house all of the links and information for parents/carers so that it can be easily accessed at any time.  Due to the volume of posts online important information is being pushed further down and some parents are struggling to find it.  Hopefully this new tab will help.

Pupil Information

Can we remind all of our pupils that documents which are uploaded onto the SharePoint should not be edited or changed in any way.  These are original documents and are there for everyone to see.  We suggest bringing it up on the screen and completing the task on a piece of paper, a notebook or a jotter.  You can also download a copy of the sheet and complete it on your computer, then you could save it to a folder and keep it safe.

How to Download Documents

  1. Enter your chosen folder, eg Maths
  2. Click the picture of the word or pdf file until it turns blue and has a tick (don’t enter the document)
  3. Click the 3 dots at the end of the document
  4. A box will appear, go to the bottom of the box and click the three dots again.
  5. This will give you a drop down menu where one of the options is to download the document
  6. Click download and then open the document once the download is complete.
  7. This is now your copy of the document and you can work on it and save it to your computer

Primary 1/2 Literacy

Remember to use your Teach Your Monster To Read account to help you learn whilst you are at home. We have 7 super Champion Readers in our class at the moment.  Let’s see if we can increase that number!  If you can’t remember the code, send me a note via Glow and I will hopefully sort you out.

Room 1 Money Tasks

I have included some money tasks in the new resources for Primary 1 which will be added to our Glow folder tomorrow. We have had a lot of fun learning about money in class, have a look at our video here for some ideas you could continue at home. Don’t forget to let us know if you are having trouble getting on to Glow and we will try our best to help. Well done to those already trying out some tasks and thank you for the messages it is great to be able to keep in touch.

Contact

The school may have to contact some families during this period of isolation. If you see a withheld number or a no caller I’d appear on your screen it is likely to be us.

Thank you,

Mrs Paterson

Scottish SPCA Resources

Dear Parent/Carer

The good news is, our first booklet has now been released, please click on the link below:

https://www.scottishspca.org/education-resources

We will be producing another four booklets which will be released on a monthly basis. Again these will be filled with approx. 20 pages of activities linked to all areas of the curriculum to ensure we are encouraging skills in numeracy, literacy, relate to science, health and wellbeing, expressive arts, languages, RME, social studies and technology.

There will also be a Scottish SPCA Adventure Club Activity pack Extra, which will be suitable for P1-3 pupils and those who require additional support for learning. We already have a nursery pack that is currently been made available online and we will be releasing a newer version of this soon.

Children will be able to demonstrate they have completed each page of the booklet through solving clues as they go along in the form of anagrams. They can only get the letters for their anagram by sourcing the answers relating to each activity (one activity per curriculum area per page based on a specific topic). At the end of the book there will be a page to record all the anagrams and solve our Inspectors mystery. Parents/carers can then submit a photo of the completed sheet to us along with first name, class and school and we will award
certificates each time a child completes a booklet.

We will also be supporting the use of these materials digitally through providing video blogs and other forms of support from our education team.
We want to support as many schools as possible and if we have at least 50% of pupils complete the challenge from a school we are keen to award the school with the status of being Scottish SPCA?s Animal Champions 2020. We are also working closely with Barnardos Scotland so that we can be in a position to offer physical packs to those families who may not have access to the internet.

Primary 1/2 space topic

Hi everyone.  We still have the Neptune page to complete in our Space Booklet.  This is what you need to find out if you want to have a go:

  1.  Find out what Neptune looks like and draw a picture of it.
  2.  Neptune is named after the Roman God of the ______________.
  3.  It is another one of the ____________ giants.
  4.  It is the last planet that we know of in our ____________   ___________.

Neptune on FreeSchool on You Tube is a fab video to watch to find out these facts.
